I braced myself for when I got on the scales after returning from marbella. I hadn't been on my fab forum much. Although I had continued to test test test @bulkbiker :) I had eaten different foods although tried very much to stick to low carb. I love tapas. But it tends to come on bread a lot of the time so I had the topping and poor hubby had all my bread but seemed very happy to help me out! That said its not always clear exactly what is in the topping carb wise! I had a steak dinner which included boiled potatoes and a fantastic gorganzola sauce which had no effect on my BS! And shared a creme brulee which had no effect. Probably because we walked well over 10 kilometers of the magnificent promenade every day. I loved the muesli with Greek yoghurt that my b and b did for breakfast but it took me to 10.1 and when I asked what was in it they told me marmalade! That said I had toast that morning too! I had eggs and bacon every morning! But I ate out every evening and also had lunch a few times. I had half a bottle of red wine with dinner each evening and if we stopped at a bar on our walk during the day I had a dry white wine or prosecco (not one cocktail was consumed and i don't think will ever again!). I'm not sure what mysugr would have made of it @Rachox as I didn't input my readings for the whole week (decided that was having a holiday too! And now I have to wait 7 days for a new average! But apart from the above I was extremely good which has reflected in no weight gain. Came back early on 7th June. My FBS on 7th = 5.7 and 8th = 5.9. Both higher than I was getting before my holiday but following the past 2 days of my usual LCHF I'm happy to see a 5.4 this morning! And the moral of this story is diabetics can still thoroughly enjoy a holiday. Both me and hubby agreed it was one of the best EVER. Happy weekend everyone.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday and found some suitable meals. As for MySugr, if you want to keep your current estimated HbA1c as accurate as possible you’d need to input all the readings from your holiday (you can change the date and time for each reading) a bit laborious I know, but those ‘mistakes’ you made on holiday will be relevant for 12 weeks or so.

Excellent news and well done for the restraint.. we're off driving around France next week so shall no doubt have some interesting restaurant experiences especially as I'm trying carnivore! Lots of packs of cold meat I think.. and steaks of course.
We have driven around France for 30 years. It's our favourite country. Have an amazing time. Enjoy yourselves....and the food.....and wine!!!

Where's the 'don't like' button :-) thanks Rachel

Well done @Debandez great that your hols worked out. We stayed full board at a hotel in Spain a few weeks back and I found it quite hard at times. I suspect there was sugar added to many things as they often tasted sweet even the bacon seemed to be in a sweet liquid! I too maintained my target weight thankfully but bgs were up and down and took a few days to settle mind you I came back and developed an ear infection from swimming so that could have been brewing. Think in future I’d do what you did and just do B and B so morecontrol. We went earlier in year to Italy on B and B and that was much easier to manage my bgs and I unintentionally lost weight that holiday!
Think moral of my story is that planning needed for hols so that it can go smoothly. Went with lots of family on the full board and it was meant to make process easier as two of my elderly relatives can’t walk very far.
Well done you and congratulations on all you have achieved to date too.

Right back at ya! We prefer b and Bs actually. We find them so much more friendly and you normally get to chat with other guests too which we like. It was a win win situation on the food front too as I could walk up and down studying menus to see which suited me the best. I was surprised at how my BS were quite stable to be honest and I'm wondering if my IR has improved!!! Anyhooo I really enjoyed the different foods. It was heaven. Full board for you will be challenging. But you have to think of elderly relatives. Nice that you all enjoy a family holiday abroad together too. I love that.

SO glad you had a great time Debandez, I love hearing about people who have had a great holiday even if they have strayed a little from their everyday, month in month out diet. Yes I know you don't want to lose a foot blah, blah but in the end you have to live for now also. I am not advocating throwing caution to the wind and for those that stick strictly to their low carb foods, well, I salute you. The rest of us mere mortals though are happy to take a 'risk' that a reading that 'jumps' to a 5 or 6 for a fortnight is not the end of the world.
