Why Eat Carbs As A Type 2 Diabetic?

Sorry that I misinterpreted you. I took the statement "It’s the cumulative effect of eating carbs that has a lot of us in this position." to mean that in the literal sense. Not so sure that I agree wholeheartedly though.
 
Now you have perked my interest. On this forum I expect to be talking to people with diabetes. So if it’s not the carbs that have done the damage what do you suggest it is.

I'm a T2 because my Mother and her siblings are too. So are two of my Father's sisters and their daughters. I don't believe it to be because I gorged on cakes and rice sometimes in my misspent youth.

So your blaming your genes?
 
The western diet full of carbs has more to do with causing t2d. The gene theory is an interesting one. Although it’s not like the genes that turn on/off to say choose the colour of your eyes.

I have NOT been zero carbing, I have been trying out different time periods of fasting. One of those days involved me not having my usual slice of bread. i have not commented on my carb intake on any of my fasting experiments this past week,

how do you know that?

Interestingly i too come from a family with a strong type 2 occurrence. And those who get it, are around 48-50 years old when it happens. Every time. Even the thin ones.
 
From my re reading of my small library of books on medical matters, genetics and inheritance, etc, it seems that the inheritance of type two diabetes is not clear, even though there is obviously - just from casual observation, a strong family association and even some genes which might possibly be involved, the usual rules do not apply. The conclusion that there is a lot more going on than simple genetics is seen in almost every description of the problem.
Personally, I have never been able to eat the 'normal' amount of carbs without gaining weight all my adult life, and now I have been diagnosed type two 18 months or so, have returned to normal Hba1c and BG levels, I could eat more carbs than the maximum of 40gm per day I usually stick to, but I would begin to regain body fat quite quickly if I did so.

How do I know what?

You think that those who get diabetes are around 48-50 yrs old?

this. How do you know what i have quoted, that it is not genetic, in part or for some at least?

I do find your tone hostile. And dismissive. I am not stupid, uneducated, unread or anything else.

the jury is out. The cause of type 2 diabetes is not yet know.

I have never eaten junk food except the odd bit of cake or similar one or twice a year, I have always cooked from scratch, had simple meals with virtually no processed foods. I do not like fancy food, I do not eat takeaways more than a couple of times a year. My parents were hippy earth mother types in the 60's and wholefood and home grown food was the thing. I have continued this way of eating, as have most of my siblings.

People will react to information in whatever way they want. At least give the right info. Potatoes are one of the worst foods we can eat. They are full of starch.

You cannot say that it is one singular food that has made a person Diabetic. There are many other foods that could have contributed to us becoming Pre-Diabetic or diabetic. It's probably not the potato that has caused high BSL's..The companies now have introduced so many new foods over the years plus everything is loaded with sugar. Even our bread is not the same. People ate potatoes back in the 40's and previous, yet diabetes was rare, even in the 60's and 70's. The only reason why potatoes are the worst kind of food for many diabetics is not because of the food, but because we already have insulin problems, probably from other foods. So many foods are now restricted to us because of what we have eaten in the past.

I think the cause of diabetes is known. I have not stated genes have nothing to do with diabetes. I did say they are not the same type of gene that has a certain job.... and only does that job in the right circumstances . Like the gene that gives you your eye colour. I have not read any serious expert on the topic that doesnt believe IR is responsible for T2D. In simple terms eating too many carbs causes IR. We dont need carbs. There is no human disease as far as I know of carb deficiency, that says it all.

But you have been carb free as I stated before, and you have been succesful if I read your posts right.

As for your accusation that I am being dismissive or hostile. What can I say about that. Thats your opinion. It certainly hasnt been my objective.

As i have stated before in various posts I am willing to be wrong. In fact I will always be happy to admit I was wrong provided its facts and not opinions we are dealing with.

Now perhaps you could explain your comment that 48-50 yr olds get diabetes. Is this agae group universal or only people whos parents or relatives had diabetes.
