Thank you.
I have written down exactly what I need and want to say

I have had the phone consultation with gp. Have told him everything and have said how scared I am. He was very reassuring. Basically, he read out exactly what my gp has written in the letter for the neurology dept. He has explained about the neuropathy and how it has got worse. I agree in that, also he has stated about the amount of weakness espcially on left side including the hand and wrist. Mentioned right side and in his opinion, not as weak which I agree with.
The referal, go has said high priority, but not sure if that is classed as same as urgent. Basically go can t do anything else until neurology have seen me. The thing that is of concern to my gp, is the noticeable weakness and wants it checked over with hospital in case it's something else apart from neuropathy or even if the numbness something else. So now it's just having to wait for appt and seeing how long I have to wait

That is reassuring in some ways, Ally. High Priority means urgent, put to top of list in my vocabulary, and this doctor seems far more useful that your other one. A hospital assessment is a good idea because you do need to get to the bottom of it all, whatever it is. I am sorry you are having to go through all this, you really do not deserve any of it. Try and stay calm.

Maybe a phone call to the neurology department to see how long it might be?

I will leave it until Friday before I call the dept just in case the appt comes through tomorrow or Friday morning

Curiosity got the better of me and I called the referral appt dept at the hospital.
They received my referral an 23rd May. No appt has been sent out yet. But now you all like me might laugh or cry at this next bit.
Am on what they call the medium to high to be seen waiting list, which I thought was good, now the bad news, from that date, there is a 24 week wait to be seen. So I won t hear anything for a good few weeks and won t be seen at least until middle to end of October. My gp was right in saying there is a long waiting list. So looks like I have a good few weeks well several weeks lol before I will be seen

I must admit, I thought the maximum wait was supposed to be 18 weeks

if anything changes, i would seriously consider A & E. At this point, there is no way of knowing what is diabetes related, and what is a new development or a reaction to medication.

have some more hugs

I was just about to say something similar to @lucylocket61

When I was ill before Christmas and went to see the GP he said I had a fast pulse rate with ectopic heart beats (the ones that feel like a missed beat). He said I needed an extended ECG (72 hours) and maybe some other tests. He said he could refer me as an outpatient but it would be months so he called an ambulance believe it or not and sent me off to the hospital assessment unit because this was the quickest way of being monitored/assessed/treated. Now he is what I call a good GP.

Yes I agree. At first my gp thought it was all due to the diabetes. He is thinking now that there is maybe something else

Yes your gp is good.
Well at least I know I won't get seen until October.
I will if necessary go to a@e but will try and avoid that if possible.
At least my gp did say there would be a long wait

I won,t look on Google to see what they say because I will only start 5hinking, have I got this or have I got that

It's bad enough coping with bipolar. T2 is a pain but is ok apart from the neuropathy.
Can,t bear thinking, what else, will just see what happens.

Ally, you do right not to Google. Also, if it gets even a tiny bit worse - off back to the doctor, and see the good one that rang you up. If you have a nasty fall, off to A&E, no messing.

Ask the GP if your can use "choose and book" so you can get seen quicker at a different hospital.
I could do that. One would me a train ride plus two buses, the other, two trains plus a bus ride. To be honest, it's the cost but will think about it

I have, at times, been sent to hospital by ambulance at the request of my GP, when I had what he considered an urgent problem. At A&E, they do take you a bit more seriously when you arrive that way. Sometimes I have to fight for my health, because no one else will. Even if it's inconvenient for the doctors concerned.

If you have a fall, or some other serious symptoms develop, you're not being dishonest when you call an ambulance or go to A&E. Please don't downplay your symptoms when you speak to doctors (other than your GPs, who know how urgent your need is). You wouldn't be jumping ahead of other patients with greater need.

Do you have a team who are available to help you regarding bipolar? Maybe they could write a letter about all this, because a case could be made that the added stress is not good for you.

Hang in there Ally, here are some more hugs.
