Is Coconut Oil A 'poison'?

Perhaps it’s because the US don’t produce coconuts and they are worried about the popularity and health benefits of coconut oil together with the massive drop in corn/vegetable oil sales so they get a Harvard academic to say what they want the public to hear. Just a thought

This is just another example of the medical world being wrong in so many ways.

Sat fats do not aoutomatically lead to blood cholesterol. What does is exces glucose in the blood - huh - who ever thought that but that is reality.

Reduce bg reduces cholesterol not changing from sat fats eg like coconut oil.

Full fat milk is better than semi or fully skimmed most nutritionists and drs now recognise that as it protects against the lactose in the milk.

The fats debate is misunderstood and has been for decades

I just love to watch my HCPs take my blood pressure.
They almost pick up the meter and rap it on the table to get it to read what they expect - but they usually do it twice just to make sure they can say that it was checked.
I have to stop myself imagining it coming up 'TILT' or I start to laugh.

Nina Telcoiz describes the demonisation of coconut and palm oil by the veg oil manufacturers. These products were described as 'tree lard'!
I find it odd that whilst certain scientists believe in the rather debunked sat fat/cholesterol/cvd hypothesis, , coconut oil is singled out in that report and more recently especially when coconut oil is a vegetable source of fat and I believe dairy fat is the only type with a majority sat fat content. I think this has more to do with the popularity of the stuff as a universal panacea and thus a threat to those 'heart health' seed oils but am going to dive back into the literature and see what I can find in the sincere hope that I won't need to give up the white stuff.

Coconut oil does not seem to be mentioned on the forum as much as it used to be when newbies were told it was better than seed oils for cooking and even put it in coffee so have we stopped using so much of it.

I havn't. I have bulletproof coffee which includes coconut oil every day. I use different fats for different purposes but they are all healthy.

I think that the naysayers are just trying to keep the diet/heart hypothesis alive and the growing awareness that seed oils are unhealthy has them on the back foot.

A more balanced view.

It seems that like a lot of things in life, when I listen to all the opinions voiced by so called experts, I just end up getting confused. As far as coconut oil is concerned, I use a coconut oil spray, so in limited amounts, I like the flavour. I also drink coconut milk sometimes, because I like the taste.

Poison? I wish these people would use their dictionaries a bit more.

Poison: Any substance that can cause severe organ damage or death if ingested, breathed in, or absorbed through the skin. Many substances that normally cause no problems, including water and most vitamins, can be poisonous if taken in excessive quantity. Poison treatment depends on the 'substance.

So, it's not a poison, unless there's another definition.

I managed to type this earlier but forgot to click on "Post Reply", must be old age!

Seems to be based on a lecture she gave (in German) so there's no supporting evidence just her "opinion". Whereas the evidence seems to point the other way once we have all agreed that sat fat is not harmful...
I'm surprised she said this though as she works with the WFPB mob at Harvard so would have thought that they liked fruit oil.. obviously their dislike of sat fat overcomes all.

Harvard has long vilified coconut oil. The plant based agenda has to vilify coconut oil becaue it has even more sat fat than meats. If coc oil is ok thn so must a non plant based diet
