How to convert A1C mathematics method
IFCC = DCCT -2.14 * 10.929
IMG_20180906_195359.JPG Good night

The pathology shop I go to gives my hba1c results in both % and mmol/mol.

Also my android Diabetic Journal app has a converter for this as well.

My surgery posts both on line, but my GP still talks about the older % DCCT version.

Does anyone have the equation, bearing in mind I use pencil and paper, for working out A1c from average bg, please?

Hi my friend @Guzzler
Please use this
The relationship between A1C and eAG is described by the formula 28.7 X A1C – 46.7 = eAG.

Just use the converter provided by @DCUKMod You just play around with the figures in the A1c box until your average BG shows in the mmol/l box.
Though if @Guzzler really wants to know what it is and do it by pen and paper use :
A1c = (avgBS + 46.7)/28.7 where the average is in mg/dl
or A1c = ((18*avgBS) + 46.7)/28.7 for mmol/l - though I hope you're good at dividing by 28.7 for the calculation :)

Thanks, Bluetit. Just wanted a ball park figure-ish. I am trying to gear myself up to get my way overdue labs done (to be perfectly honest, I'm more interested in the liver and kidney function tests much more than A1c results).

Thank you, Rokaab. I may need more paper.... :)

I just look it up instead of making sums.

I also look up hba1c in relation to average glucose instead of doing sums.

I think I'm going to struggle with the sums, took me ages to figure out how to do trigs to hdl ratio. If I am right with the average of my bg (on paper) I just may get a nonD number at my next review but I have to factor in that I only recently started taking FBGs again (1st September) so I will wait awhile before getting too overconfident.

Or you can enter your average blood sugar into the next calculator down and it calculates your HbA1c ;)

Edit to reinstate the winky face that had disappeared!

As the Arab proverb says

All roads lead to Mecca

In any case, a man may need this manual method
