What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

if anything, my problem might be closer to the opposite end of the continuum -- at least in the past my haemotocrit count seems at the upper limit of normal. Not sure, though, if and how this would impact HbA1c.

High haemotocrit levels do apparently affect the HbA1c. According to Dr. Bernstein these factors can cause elevated HbA1c levels:
Hypothyroidism
Hemolitic anaemia (B12 or iron deficiency)
Elevated haemotocrit
Longer than usual red blood cell life.

My HbA1c can be as much as 10mmol/mol higher than my other data, and that is one heck of a lot higher. My Haemotocrit level is always borderline high, and my last one was actually over the borderline. I doubt the Fructosamine test would help, having read up about it. My GP agrees with me that there are anomalies in my case, but the HbA1c is what they have to go off and at present is all they have. She does know how inaccurate it can be for many people. I have dozens of research links about it.

As @Goonergal mentioned above, my GP arranged with the Biochemist Consultant at the lab for my blood to be tested at 2 different labs, exactly the same sample. There was a 4mmol/mol difference between the 2 labs. Not enough to satisfy me, but nonetheless, interesting.

Thanks @Bluetit1802. You are like always a fountain of knowledge. Really interesting stuff.

Did you experience this large of a difference from the beginning? Or did it increase as time went by? Funny thing in my case was that a year ago HbA1c was only a bit higher than finger prick tests. This year with virtually the same finger prick numbers, it is a lot higher.

Morning all. You all go to bed so late! Insomnia again for me. Got up at around 3.40am. FBG was 4.9.

Am finding that the restless nights and ridiculously early rises (my usual 5am is starting to feel like a lie in) are at least halting the morning rise in BG - my initial reading always used to be quite a bit lower than the second of the day. Now the first reading seems to be the peak or close to it. Think I’d rather have the sleep!

Good morning each. 5.8 today, the joke of September and its virus really starting to wear thin now. Early visit to see a physio who will be useless since it is a surgeon I need. Still, must move slowly through the process and my parents never knew their genes had gifted me a spavined back. That would have mortified them.

Morning all just about to go out for another mountain hike in search of the sanctuary of Pan! Reward with a swim /float this afternoon! Will also try to avoid being stung by another bee today!
5.6 bg today - Must have been the bee sting as @Goonergal commented re the honey link yesterday!
Good news though that the sting pain has receded. Interestingly I was stung in the shoulder which yesterday was sore in the joint even before I got stung but even that soreness seems to have gone now sting pain gone !
Hope everyone has a good day whatever your plans / work.

Good morning all. 5.5 today. Beautiful morning here with sun and fog, should make for a great day. Home gym for me today.
Taking Mum to her first radiation treatment for breast cancer today. She came through her op with no problems, so fingers crossed for a good 3 weeks of therapy, with few side effects.
Interesting discussion re insulin resistance and BG / trigs ratio. Will see if I have any recent test that I can use.
Hope everyone is well, your trigs toe the line. Have a great day.

Morning...there it's done I have booked my review for the 1st of November...increasing my activity to chase that elusive HbA1c score hopefully equal to if not lower than the last one...bringing muscles joints & tendons that haven't been used for the last six months out of retirement...all of them are complaining bitterly...do I care...not at the moment...ask me after my early morning walk & cycle ride...woke to a 5.6

Morning Peeps! 8.6 this morning after getting back late from a 2 day trip to Jersey. Managed to squeeze a 2 mile run and total 15,000 steps in yesterday. Now 5 days off Metformin to try and get my B12 up and stop my leg and feet tingles.
This morning I have a Derrick diabetes course. Strangely I’m hoping they offer us custard creams at tea break!
