Try carb loading, in advance. I tend to go for quite long walk most mornings, and if it's 7 or above I'll wait, and correct before it goes too low, but if it was 5.3, I wouldn't walk far without eating something first. Bananas are very good for this.

Thanks Alison, I knew the carbs from lunch should have kicked in and it was not a mad power walk or anything, it was literally a very very very gentle stroll, stopping every couple of hundred metres to take photos. Just concerned that fast acting carbs are not doing as they should. Maybe its the slight panic kicking in which I dont think helps, especially as i am usually miles from anywhere

My blood sugars do that sometimes, when I go for a long walk. I find that my blood sugar falls faster than I can replenish it, and then later, it goes high. That doesn't always happen, it just sometimes does.

Keeping blood sugars in a target zone that resembles normal is hard work, and as you move in that direction things are bound to be a bit unpredictable. Having T1D is a very good lesson in decision making, every decision has to be based on the situation as it is now. The past is useful to learn from, but each situation is unique, history doesn't repeat itself, so you have to make a decision based on the current circumstances, and it won't always be the right one.

This is, of course, how political, and many other, decisions should be made, but too often aren't, there is far too much fighting the last war. But you aren't fighting the last hypo, you are fighting the current hypo, which will never be exactly the same as the last one.

I just think while you are pushing your blood sugars down things will be more unpredictable. Once you stabilise at a lower level, it will still be unpredictable, but maybe a bit more predictably unpredictable. :)

Hypo central for me the last 2 days. FOUR hypo's yesterday. My personal best haha. Another two hypo's today. No idea what is going on as not long ago I used to have about 1 or 2 a **** month.

This has been my week too. Very rarely hypo since wearing the Libre. Have come to the conclusion it is the colder weather. Have now reduced my basal by 1 unit every few days and am now down 3. Which is quite a lot, as I was only on 11. Daft I know, but had forgotten how I had raised it during the heat in the summer. Just have to balance the bolus now as I will need more in the mornings.

Morning all, have a happy hypo-free day.
It’s a sadness, and a T1 relief, to be back in the U.K. bs were quite hard to control in the land of high carb but delicious food, but worth it. There’s nothing beats time spent with old friends.

Morning.

Well that didn't work as I expected.

Messing about with various "bolus calculators" and Etch A Sketch said 8.9 with arrow going up fine, so 89 carbs hit the 'calculate' out comes 10.5 units :shifty:

"Seems a bit high", says me "but well go for it as I am not doing anything much this morning", no saving the universe, plotting the downfall of anyone or anything, so stuff face sit and wait.

Now some 2.5 hours later I'm 2.4  didn't expect to go that low :singing: oh well, its part sorted now.

Morning all - I had a bit of a persistent hypo yesterday myself, couldn’t get it to come up even with normal my level of dextrose tabs. Then of course it soared and I had to correct. I’m putting it down to all the painting I was doing. More again today, so will put a temp basal on for a bit less insulin.

I hope you had something nice to eat, for that hypo.

Morning y'all, 10.1 waking by the Libre and a finger stick said 8.1, so I've has a lazy morning before a swim, or hopefully as the Libre arrow is pointing north now at 11, starting to distrust this current Humalog script as similar happened last week, I've half a gingerbread man of insulin left and scanning just again that going high beep went off, which I reckon says dodgy insulin as I ate a standard breakfast.

The joys.

Looks like a few of us are having issues with highs and lows over the past few days. In one sense that is good, it proves that no matter how long we have had had this horrible thing, no matter how experienced we are at calculating insulin to carb ratios, we are all human and make either small miscalculations or our bodies tell us its the body that is in control not us:facepalm::facepalm:

On a personal level it makes me feel a little better knowing I am not alone. the only person who gets these swings for no apparent reason. You guys are always there to help support me and others through.

God if all of us experienced diabetics still have highs and lows, I wonder how newly diagnosed people feel

Ah so apparently my mother in law calling me and telling me she is coming around tonight and will probably stay for dinner is enough to send my levels in double figure ‍♀️

I cook almost daily but as I learnt most of my traditional recipes from her I feel a great sense of pressure cooking for her .

Mad cleaning session and now cooking away. Not how I planned to spend my Sunday.

edit: love my mother in law to bits <3 just not when she turns up with short notice lol

@smc4761 . I think if a T1 ever tells you that they never go high or low, then they are either.....
Not a T1 diabetic.:woot:
Prone to telling untruths.:bag:
In need of a new meter;).

Well my day settled down although I've not eaten a thing since breakfast, fast acting cartridge changed and taken and tea's finishing off in the oven, I'm hungry and there'll be a photo coming up in the food thread, in a 'don't try this at home' stylee :)

Did I mention being hungry?

After yesterday's exertions in the clearing, tidying and decluttering departments, and as a result had a quick meander through 3s and 4s for a few hours, I've been running higher than 8 ever since.

Um, now realised I'd not been eating raspberry flavoured Lindt chocolate at 18g carbs per 100g, it's really 47g per 100g and I had under-bolused twice. Oops. Back in range again now, though.
