...after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a week today with an Hba1c of 95 and trying my best to eat low carb since, and my level was 8.4 three hours after eating. I tested twice and got the same result. I didn't test before the meal unfortunately but I'll start testing properly tomorrow. I just wanted to see what my level was and was so nervous to test. I know my level is still high but I feel quite happy with the result as I was expecting it to be a lot higher
Just wanted to share.

That is a fantastic reading after just 1 week. You are doing something right. Once you start testing before then 2 hours after eating it will give you an even better handle on it.

Im new too..started metformin this week .diagnosed 2 weeks ago. Last week I had blood sugar readings ranging from 19 to 29! Major panick set in..but this week they are lower..todays was 9 pre meal..
Anyway well done to you..its a lot to take in isnt it

hi @Starfish18

nice post.

my hba1c was 57, at week 1...so your post meal score, looks
pretty good to me, from the high you started on.

your off to a great start.

do make it a trend to test before eating..even if you've taken that first bite..(done that once or twice)
the food won't hit the blood stream straight away so score still valid.

i set timer on phone, and for those first few weeks i snapped the meter score (pre meal) and
the plate of dinner.
(i reckon that gave a nudge later to remember what worked..)
but i know others keep a better record of what they eat..i just kept a mental note of what didn't work for me.

(trust me, the brown corduroy moment) when you see what a bad score looks like...:woot:..
you'll never forget the food you can't tolerate well....;)

i cracked at new years...had white bread (x2 slices), butter and chips in a beautiful, lip smackingly gorgeous tasty butty.
..2 hours later 13 mmol..and i was used to running at about 8 post meal at the time...:***:o_O:bigtears: )

your doing ok, by me :)

We all have a starting point and testing is vital to your health. It's amazing what a low carb diet can do and in a reasonable short space of time. Doesn't require drugs or anything, just requires good food.

I encourage anyone who has been recently diagnosed to research their condition to better understand it as much as possible. Hate to say it, but the medical world's understanding of T2 is poor and the dietary advice is horrendous. It's little wonder it is called a progressive condition when that just isn't true.

Thank you im starting to test before an after meals from today. Just tested before breakfast. I tested twice first one was still 8.4 and the second one was 7.7 so still high I'll see what it's like in 2 hours

Yes it is a lot to take in. I used to eat such carby meals before diagnosis.
Thank you Well done to you too. You're obviously doing something right. I bet it was so nice to see your levels at 9 when they've been so high. Keep up the good work

Well done on getting a meter and starting to test @Starfish18. A reading of 8.4 after eating is good, but it's best to test before eating, then 2 hours later so you can tell how the meal affected you.
Thank you. I have started to test before meals now. I test after breakfast twice, I got 8.4 first then 7.7 so still high ill test again in 2 hours

I totally agree with you. I'm lucky enough to have joined this forum and got good advice. The nurse that diagnosed me just told me to cut out sugar, no mention of carbs whatsoever.

Oh no! It's not worth it is it? How long did it take you to get your level down after your chippy feast? I used to eat loads of carbs before diagnosis
I do plan to keep a food diary and I've tested before breakfast twice first I got 8.4 mmol and second I got 7.7 must admit I did panic when it was still high but I guess it is still early days I'll see what it is in 2 hours

Hahaha. Me too 2 mince pies shot me up into double figures. Worth it though. My excuse is I covered them in double cream? No? Not good enough? ;)

Op getting down to the 7's so quick is great. With a 95 you probably have a lot of sugar to get out of your system. Your body will store it wherever it can.

It's a great start.
