Blood glucose was 5.8 last night 2 hours after dinner (2050), then I cheated and had 2 chocolate chip cookies and 1/2 glass of 2% milk at 2230. This morning at 0640 my blood glucose was 6.4, proving that one cannot eat chocolate chip cookies at night and expect decent overnight fasting blood sugars. My overnight fasting should be in the mid 5s or high 4s (personal target) and useless fact #72, still had 3/4 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios with milk for breakfast. Have been largely successful at eliminating most of the bad carbs from my diet, although I did try a half shot of Sambuca on Sunday (yummy but a real no-no), and have been tracking blood sugars and blood pressure in an Excel spreadsheet. I can see my progress since Mar 08 and am very surprised to see overnight fasting blood glucose go from low 10s to 6s, 5s and below (once) in only 1 month. I am not doing the Keto thing but basically low carb with a few instances of falling off the wagon, I'll try harder! Thanks all for being here...

6.3 this morning at 0640hrs......nurses dictate testing times.........Fast continued till 0940hrs when I had a typical hospital breakfast of bran flakes,milk,wandered sprinkles plus 2 Brown bread with butter

Cappuccino plus two flat white coffees before pre lunch reading of 8.1 at 1135hrs


Dropped to 7.7 pre-dinner after a lunch of:

Jerk Chicken
Small cup rice
Mix veg(from frozen)
Broccoli
Ice cream(80g) with chopped hazelnuts(40g)

Kiwi fruit and 2 pieces of sushi roll for snack as well as 2 teas,2coffees and about a litre of water

Steamed cabbage
Sweetcorn
Celeriac mash
80 g Ice cream with 40g chopped hazelnuts

Teas,coffees and sugar free squash turned the rise to a final reading of 7.4

Not looking forward to tomorrow's fasting bg as I decided to celebrate getting out of hospital tomorrow with a pizza and football night.........worth it in my book.......I'll face the music tomorrow now.

Well......not too bad
Pizza effectively just scrubbed any normal fasting benefit

7.3 this morning

I may skip lunch today to compensate.......nothing ordered at the hospital kitchen anyway as I am on the 'to go' list.

Breakfast: Honey Nut Cheerios (3/4 cup) and 2% milk, black tea, 500 mg Metformin
Lunch: Salmon salad on a lettuce leaf, 4 dried apricots, black tea
Dinner: Scrambled eggs (3) and ham with Tabasco sauce, small dish of butter fried mushrooms, 4 dried apricots, black tea, 500 mg Metformin
Bedtime snack: 2 glasses Wolfblass cab-sauv red wine and 1 shot of Cazadores tequila

I am trying to not snack between meals or before going to bed, and am amazed that having even one piece of whole wheat bread or toast before bed keeps my blood sugar elevated for ages. The snack solution is obviously to not eat anything that raises your blood sugar before bed, hence the wine and tequila sleeping pill.

Today is my first full day with my monitor! :)

8.3 straight after waking up.

Yesterday I had: 220g of steamed broccolini with sesame oil, soy sauce and black pepper, a can of John West sardines and a can of Coke Zero. I’m going low calorie as well as low carb just until I can have a proper assessment with my GP after Easter.

Yesterday was a big day.....finally home from hospital so a mix of hospital food in the morning and home-cooked in the evening....also using my own meter now at the times I want to test rather than working around nurses shift times.

Bran Flakes,milk,Canderel
2 slices brown bread,butter,marmalade

Lunch;
Mutton Vindaloo,Rice,Mix frozen veg
small piece 2"" by 2" of baked lemon tart

Dinner
Chicken ,Spinach,red peppers,onionss charlotte potato curry

Snack: 1/4 cup honey roasted peanuts, 2 glasses red wine, 2 shots tequila

Looks like the honey roasted peanuts have too much sugar, will not be having them again...

D - cheesy meaty spinachy pasta made with konjac noodles, 65 g Mersey Valley cheese, 3 mini cheese kranskys and a couple of big handfuls of spinach and kale from a bag.

Edit: Just realised now I may have over-estimated calories and carbs, as it looks like I selected the wrong things in the MyFitnessPal app, so god knows how many carbs and calories this was, I don't think it was over my limit.

Blood glucose when I went to bed was 5.6.

This morning it was 8.3, and when I checked again at 1 p.m. it was 8.4!!! This is with not eating anything as I'm fasting today.

Quite a lot of carbs yesterday as I'm decorating living room and had pizza as I didn't have time to cook, so I was surprised to get an fbg of 5.8 this morning.
