What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

5.7 today. Late to post. Seen I have 77 posts to catch up on too! Best get cracking. First here's my bit of chat.......

Its diabetes week commencing 10th June and I'm coordinating 2 clinics with my surgeries. They have confirmed I have rooms for 10th and 12th so I'm really happy. Going to try and complete the simple leaflet I'm planning for then (still only in my head!). 'Controlling blood sugars the low carb way' or something to that effect! 2 or 3 pages. One being a food and drink list and the first being the basics. Maybe will include a weekly planner showing what I have. Anyway it's a work in progress (sort of!! .). Hoping my surgery like it. If they do I'm sending it around the world! . forever the optimist.

Here's my email to my surgery today, sent after they confirmed my clinics, I just wanted them to know people are listening....and taking action....and getting results:

'Brilliant. Thank you both.

This month's diabetics meeting at Tesco. RESULT!!!

When I went last Wednesday 2 ladies came up to me to tell me some good news. The first lady who chairs the meetings, has made small changes to her diet. Swapped potatoes for celeriac (what she can't do with celeriac can fit on a postage stamp). Cut down (not out), on the usual carby culprits too and lost 7lb (not massively overweight to start with). But the best news is that she has gone from 45 units twice a day to 25!!!! Not even been doing it long Second lady who I noticed had lost quite a bit of weight and looked so happy with herself has gone from 110kg to 88kg! Over 3 stone 4lb lost! Hba1c down from 95 to 54!!! These are long term diabetics. I wrote down their results so I wouldn't forget. My heart was singing. I arrived at 2.30 on the dot and they immediately shared their news. They were so excited.

2 young ladies were there from diabetes.org.uk to collect cheque (we hold monthly raffles). They mentioned a volunteer networking day to be held in Manchester Friday 7th June. Usually about 50 attend. Food provided. I'm really busy but might be able to squeeze it in. I feel I have to go!

Im going to show a short video (5 minutes or so) each month at the Tesco meeting on various things. For example Insulin resistance, what makes us hungry, sugar addiction etc. Chair has a projector so that will be good.

Just working on my next presentation too. Incorporating weight loss and how I did it (low carb). Not for everyone but it suits me and many others. Maintaining really well too both weight and hba1c. Officially in remission Debbie told me.

Copied diabetic nurse in.

Happy Monday team
Thank you all for your well wishes. My nose is not so sore and my eye is blacker, that said my pride is well bruised (being a Leo us lions don't take kindly to bashing ourselves) ;)

SO... Down to business Forgot to test first thing, went in the shower had brekkies (eggy bread with bacon and 3 cherries... Mmmm! Coffee and double cream) stabbed my finger watched the blood sucked up the strip and saw the screen flash up 5.8

Now today Mon 20th I start my 7th week on insulin and am off to see, for the first time, my diabetes specialist at the hospital.
I am unsure what he will think about my 30% reduction in insulin and my 50% reduction in Glicaside in 7 weeks!

I know what I think he should say.... (My daily average is 6.0) However that might differ hugely from what he actually does say.

Watch this space as 'they' say!
Have a great day Ya all
Po

UPDATE: I have just returned from my hospital appointment.

Quote from 'The diabetic specialist' after downloading my reader readings...

"In my twelve years of working in this field this is the best set of figures I have seen. I have only seen two or three other sets of readings that come anywhere close to this in all that time!"

He went on to say... "I want you to stop taking insulin with immediate effect!"

O M G!
Absolute amazing result!!!! Well done.

An amazing 5.5 when I got to test about 50 mins after getting up. Awoke to barking from 1 dog went down to see what the issue was. The other dog who was at the vet yesterday with an anal abscess had managed to get it to burst. I will refrain from describing the mess as some may be eating. I have now cleaned the dog and the carpet and the kitchen floor!
I hope your days have had better starts!

good morning all :)

4.8 for me today

and it's still chucking it down with rain here after a whole day of rain yesterday, we'll probably go out for lunch today, I have to deliver an amigurumi owl I was asked to crochet for someone from a kit she won in a raffle , I've never made anything like it before but it turned out pretty well I think, I hope she likes it :)

We managed to get some weed and feed put down on the lawn at mum's yesterday, there is a fair bit of moss creeping into it so we're also going to aerate it (when it eventually stops raining :D ), then we'll add some more grass seed.
We all got pretty wet walking the dog yesterday but it was worth it to see her bounding about in the wet grass and enjoying herself  then she'll get her coat clipped on Wednesday which will help her with the heat (assuming we get some more ;) ) and with the drying off period after 'puddlehound' walks.

@ianpspurs hugs, it's enough without being creaky too isn't it? :)
@poemagraphic well done indeed and well deserved ;)

Hope your day treats you kindly :)
I could visualise your dog bounding around from the description. Lovely. I wanted to join in!!!

Seeing diabetic nurse tomorrow
Hi @Cumberland, Type 1 is so challenging and I see that mainly from seeing your posts and @karen8967 posts (I'm not on any other regular threads). I see the struggles in gaining control. What a challenge. And every day. I hope your appointment goes well.

Do you think your levels might be affected by the warmer weather John? It cant be easy to manage that. Hope it improves and soon.
I have no idea to be fair, higher temperatures normally bring my levels down a touch, I didn't test when I got home (bad of me I know but my fingers are hurting) and felt ok at bed time. I am a man without a clue at the moment.

Morning all, a 7.4 greeted me today and am feeling ok. No training at all this week and I think this is why my sugars are on the rise so I will try and get back to training next week (I have a hip injury so trying to rest it) Enjoy the sunshine today I won't be as I am on a Confined Spaces course! Lucky me ............Not!

Take care everyone.

Another seasonal start to the day here and I seem to be experiencing seasonal waking hours. If true, that would be perfect for me and the chickens. On the thread's main theme 5.2 today so inside the target zone despite accidental oopage yesterday - memo to self read ingredients carefully (very small print especially) and don't trust supermarket's food order booklets. Today is all about the extremes. Taking 89 yo MIL to see our 1 week old granddaughter. Very happy for her if a little sad. My own parents only ever saw 1 of their great grandchildren - tomorrow is 6 years since their funeral. Extremes indeed.
@PenguinMum stop with the chocolate blame already and just enjoy the pleasure. 5.6 gms carb from chocolate is not an issue. On another day all your dory's will be hunky.

Morning...stressful day yesterday as I headed off for London...driving towards the Hatfield Tunnel when we came to a full stop...an accident closed the motorway so I had to find an alternative route....still got to work just on time...met family afterwards in Waterloo for dinner I was shameless with the menu....then headed home shattered...woke to a 6.8 (could it have been the rice or the chocolates served with our coffee;))
