What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good Afteringnoon Ladies and Gentlemen and all who overslept this morning.

A gentle 6.2 climbed out of the meter this morning, carrying a towel, I started to wonder if my meter had been reading the " Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy " but I needn't have worried because the reading dived head first into the washing up bowl. Shame the washing up bowl was empty.

Well folks, have a good day, if you can't throw caution to the wind and go for fun in some way shape or form.
Don't forget the old little ditty about 10 sticks of gelignite hanging on the wall and if one stick of gelignite should accidentally fall, there be no sticks of gelignite and no blood y wall.

What the man said was certainly very rude, @gennepher, but now I'm just reading @Freema 's post and it got me thinking, I wonder if the man met your eyes when you and he first met, before he took the photos? Maybe there is something about his vision that causes him to prefer looking down rather than up at people? Maybe some other condition?

I'm not excusing his rudeness at all -- his words and his manner sound very patronizing. I hate it when I get that sort of patronizing treatment from people.

Hi

Yes he did look at me when we first met and when he called my name, he looked at me as he was explaining what to do, he looked at me as he told me to sit in the chair. Then he did the photos of the eyes, and checked them on his computer.

Then he did not look at me. He just looked at the floor after that, or looked to the side as he spoke. He did not look at me in the face again.
At that point, as a deaf person, who depends on lips, that communicates to me (rightly or wrongly), that the person is hiding something, hiding bad news etc. In this instance, of the eye photographs, my brain immediately leaps to he’s hiding something bad he saw.

If I am in a shop buying something, eg computer equipment, and the assistant has maintained eye contact all way through, then when he tries to sell me something extra (which I hadn’t asked for) telling me the extraordinary benefits of whatever by buying this to go with my computer, and his eyes look slightly to the right towards the top of his ear, I then know he is lying, or thinking of an inventive answer/persuasion to get me to buy the extra goods.

There are other tells from a person’s face. Because I am lipreading I am looking at the face, and not other body parts. So, I rely a lot on the face.

One person, an experienced salesperson tried every trick in his book to get me to buy some things to go with my new laptop. Finally he said, I give up, what is your secret, I can get a customer to buy all those things. I smiled and said that is for me to know and you to wonder.

Something caused this rude guy to change his face body language. I don’t know what it was. But given the situation, I start to think the worst.

sometimes people are on their way to the next patient even before they part with the one in front of them, a way to make connection short is to not look people in the eyes and just finish the conversation on a definite a patronizing manner.. and not opening up for further conversation by looking in the person´s eyes..

Ah. I didn’t know that.

Obviously that has happened to me in the past and I didn’t understand that was what it was.

That is why, then, in the past people have got impatient with me for hesitating. With being deaf I need to make sure I don’t leave too soon (which I have done) and misunderstood something. I can’t hear the ends of conversations as people turn round or look down, which hearing people can. And the other person doesn’t understand that.

no very hearing persons don´t maybe even notice that they are dismissing people by their nonverbal behavior.., you on the other hand may notice much more than most people

It is beginning of Ramadhan holidays and i need all the rest i can. The day started with 5.8 which i was happy about. I had some check ups today..

Eyes for my reading glasses- they say there is no change.. so i just continue my current glasses.

Had my blood tests too - HbA1c is at 6.6% which I think corresponds to 48 mmol / mol in the UK system. Not ideal yet, but better than where it was sometime back. Not sure how much lower I can bring it to .

My Vitamin B12 was higher than the normal range.. doctor usually wants to ensure there is no deficiency but i am higher . i do take B12 supplements, probably a bit too many... Is high level of vitamin B12 problem? I haven’t had a detailed chat with doctor yet - probably next week. Maybe I should just reduce the dosage or maybe take it every other day. Any thoughts?

Great news about eyesight and A1c coming down from 11.8 - 6.6 is only 0.1 from your goal. Enjoy Ramadhan holidays and from what I can find there is no upper limit for B12 levels but don't take my word for this.

Hi Folks. Just registered for NHS Patient Access Online. Found my test results, meds. and medical records. There is also an "Appointments" button, which, when selected, gave me the useful information: "No appointments available". Anyone else using this service? Any good? I hate phoning the surgery, probably have 75% fail rate in terms of my intended action.

It's raining. Lots of lovely water falling from the sky!!! Yippee. Local rain gauge just hit 6mm. Fantastic.

Thanks Ian .... yes the A1C numbers are encouraging.... i am hopeful I will reach target soon. I haven’t done real LCHF till now but maybe I should give it a try... well well... but then... let’s see!!! If it can help me maintain numbers with lower medication I might go for it

Hope the state visit of friends from across the pond is providing some entertainment

As far as I'm aware you can't overdose on B12, if over required amount then as water soluble it just gets peed out so would not worry too much.

Further to the rather fragile state of my skin I have ordered a pair of arm protectors from Amazon hope they do the trick as it gets pretty annoying that when ever I brush against any solid object I end up removing a swathe of skin and often underlying tissue as well.

Well while not strictly related to the question @Shas3 posted,

but i had been meaning to drop this into a conversation at some point, and now seem as good as any.

i have taken an active interest in B12 topics, since DX and becoming aware there might be issues for T2D.
so while i can't confirm with stats or posts, but i do believe the upper limits does get pee'd out, if excess is imbibed.

However the point, as @Shas3 may bear out, is we are right to be aware of our levels, with regard to T2D AND Metformin.

to stay on topic, FBG this lovely Am was a sort of Goldilocks affair 5.5

"Not TOO high

Not TOO low..

But Just right...:) "

enjoy the remainder of the day, all.

Ouch..THAT does sound Painful, @JohnEGreen ..:wideyed:

hope that improves and the 'protectors' do their job in the meantime..:bookworm:

I take B12 supplements and am prescribed folic acid by my doctor so have pretty much got it covered.

@jjraak thanks but as long as I am taking prednisolone it's going to be a problem it just never occurred to me to buy some arm protectors till today when a little light bulb in that otherwise dense head of mine suddenly switched on..

I hope those arm protectors do the trick.

I never think of the obvious until a few years later. One of those hit me today, or rather showered me with lemon juice...

It has rained all day....non stop
