I was trying to post a comment on this article, but gave up in despair. (ironic).
Anyway, this is what I wanted to say:

Well... at least there is a recognition now that the physical can impact the mental and vice versa. though we are a long way away from parity of esteem. My Type 1 went completely out of control when I was facing huge work stress, which then triggered depression and anxiety. Which worsened as I fought to stop the hypos and hypers - I had specialist support from excellent nurses at Salford, but we could not get my blood sugars under control. After one particularly bad work day, I had four really bad hypos in a single day, for no apparent reason - apart from stress and anxiety. It made me want to kill myself and end it all, I was so exhausted by the constant yo-yo-ing of my blood sugars and worried and frustrated and anxious from it all. In the end, we thought we could directly relate a hyper, or a hypo to an external factor - anxiety, stress, worsening depression. Things got very bleak and extremely black, at least partly because of the loss of control over my Type 1. I got caught in a vicious spiral...and the rest is history.

Not Just Physical? I cant post the link for some reason
How are you doing now? Haven't seen this article but your experience rings true given that our systems are so delicately wired to have sugars between 4-7 yet most type 1s are rarely in range (my own graph of blood sugars looks like my local Surrey hills some days but often looks more like Himalayan peaks). And that is with me taking reasonable care of my diet and dosing without mega stress at work.
Add in secondary stress and exhaustion from worrying about those things and we have the perfect storm.
It is totally amazing how well we all deal with it I think!!

Thanks for asking! yes, it was the worst year of my life - add to that a relationship breakdown and its a wonder I am still here. I wrote a novel as at least part of my therapy. Type 1 is ok...but still testing 8/9/10 times a day and adjusting insulin. waiting for approval for libre. hope that will help. but it is all totally exhausting. And depressing.
