I'd say not, it's more 'I have to eat what my wife likes' !! LOL Married 35 years and just had to finally give in to that!

Mmhh..thats not good.

i like you want to, i love that you'd like to.

but what if you just CAN'T ?

no doubting it's hard..but sometimes it's more important to look after YOU
because at the end of the day, you want to look after her..can't do that UNLESS you look after yourself first.

Wish i had the answers.
But eating something that impacts your health...not sure that's ever a good idea.

though i do hope, guess that was said rather tongue in cheek..

Sorry about the foot problems ..sounds nasty.
btw wasn't suggesting you run, just that the burst of energy surprised me.
still works to this day, my go to meal for power.

I do now spend a little more time after I've eaten to analyse how it makes me feel.
energy wise/hunger wise...

seems i have a 15 minute window to get to before i know if any foods have been 'satisfying'
not in that YUm way, so you just Gotta have one more slice/piece

But in the genuine, 'that was nice, i feel fuller, and energised now." type way.

Good luck finding a way.
Only you can say what your willing to do to get 'there' where ever there is
something we have all had to do as individuals.

Reading some of the posts, I remembered I never mentioned my partner of almost fifty years. She has been part of my main care / support team over the years.

We both cook meals, either singly or together, if she does not feel like cooking I do the cooking and vice versa. This has worked out ok over the years as we know what foods we both like. It's certainly made it easier with lchf and decarbing food.

Now I have to retrain myself, unlearn stuff, learn new stuff. I don't crave carbs but I know "healthy" carb meal options. Suddenly I'm a novice again.
I think most of us have felt that too. One new thing I found workable was Mrs makes a Keto waffle and made strawberry jam with Erythritol and a little of that, with butter....new and awesome!!

Great topic @jjraak , I hadn't really thought about it. I guess that is in part due to being fortunate enough to have a good endo, really good. I'm not just dealing with diabetes, but also cystic fibrosis (There are similarities that overlap both conditions) which he has a lot of experience with. We have a good working relationship. He knows I'm not ignorant on either condition . This leads to a lot of positive outcomes and stable control.

First endo I had wasn't worth going back to, but that's okay it has led me to the right one.

On family support. My wife now knows to shop for low carb bread. And recently my 7 yo daughter’s teacher noted on her end of term report that she recognised healthy foods now. So it is beginning to rub off on the family now. :D

That can only be a good thing for their future health.

Good point.
A similar thing here, daughter now actually skips some of the poorer options like a coke, been known to throw the bun away when she has a burger or takeaways, and happily eats what I eat, if I call her and say I'm cooking.

I am not sure if we are the norm, but it does seem as if we all eat at different times and different meals... Only really eat together once a week if that.
But the girls love cauliflower cheese... I didn't, but do now, so they don't mind skipping mash if that replaces it

It's all the little things that hopefully add up over the years and gives hope that maybe they, daughter for definite, don't follow me down the T2D yellow brick road.

Liking the spin on that.
And great outcome

Always impressed by your knowledge on subjects and enjoy reading your posts.

Sounds like that's all a handful to manage, Kudos that I can't see that reflected in your posts, they always seem informative, straight talking but very upbeat

Maybe I should try being more honest with my doctor/s at the surgery.

Maybe once they know I'm not quite the nodding dog they might be used to, they might begin to take more interest in the fact I'm back to normal numbers now,

and be a bit more curious about how I managed it .mmhh
Something to ponder.

Have a good un, @Tophat1900
Hope the day goes well for you

Life isn't easy for anyone, but a good relationship with those treating us sure makes it easier. That includes being proactive to a degree. At least that's how I see it.

Thanks for the flattering comments, appreciate it.

Good to hear you are back to normal levels. That's success that should be talked about and how you achieved it and manage it. Maybe worth a mention next gp visit. After all, it is a very satisfying feeling to see those results.

@New Haven Neil - Have you tried chia puddings? There are all manner of options.

I received a sample of chia seeds with something else (can't remember what, but unimportant), so I tried a variation on this one: http://www.melissahartfiel.com/2017/07/26/single-serve-chocolate-chia-pudding/

Personally, I left out the maple syrup and still found it too sweet (I don't have a sweet tooth), but if you wanted it, there is a sugar-free option I think @Rachox uses for various things, like pancakes, if I recall correctly.

For me, I won't commit to eat something I don't like. I'll try anything, and I do have a very open mind to what flavours go where and when in the day.

@jjraak - For me, my primary care team is me. Nobody cares about my health more than I do. Of course, my OH is part of it too, as he is our main cook, but I am the one who has to ensure I'm doing as I should.

I see my GP as secondary care, and resource (blood test etc) provider. Thankfully, I haven't required specialist care for my diabetes, but for other things, I also see my GP as the signposter to specialist services.

My GP (has just moved, so will be referred to in the past tense, unfortunately) freely admits that I usually know far more about my body and what ails me than she does, and was always keen on a collaborative approach. She learned a lot on my AndBreatheLearningLipids Programme. Professor Sikaris and I taught her a lot :) :) :)

I'm not particularly looking forward to nominating her successor, but it'll have to happen soon.

Thanks @DCUKMod

if i'm honest i was very naive when i used doctors...(as in rarely )
i juts expected them to know best ( and know everything if i'm truthful.. )

My eyes have been well and truly opened....:wideyed:;)

I do the cooking but it usually is just for me..missus eats at work then skips meals at night (usually)
and agree fully it is YOU that has to decide and stay on the right path.

I like your approach and i think that IS how i see them now.
i would like it to be more as Confidant, someone i could talk to and get an unbiased opinion,
but that will have to be a work in progress.

My Doctor (lady) is lovely, listens and doesn't seem to dictate..maybe i should give her a chance and trust her a little more.
My DN, was a little more stand off-ish, and just rattled of the guidelines, so i don't expect much movement there.

On a side note one year in....and i find out they have a diabetic doctor at the practise....:banghead:

and i think my next appointment will be with them..so wish me luck..:D

Good luck in your search for a successor....Good uns are hard to find.
got to see it's like carving a piece of wood, at the start it looks nothing like you want,
but over time, it begins to take shape...and THEN it becomes a useful tool.

Chia isn't something I have ever seen over here, it doesn't look very appetising TBH! I'll look in our one-and-only healthfood shop next time I'm down there.

got mine in Sainsburys, local store the smaller type....in among the jelly / desert stuff .
i bought for the fibre it added

I've dabbled with it..

i tried it on foods..disliked
and tentatively tried it as pudding... water /milk/sweetener/cocoa..not unpleasant.
deffo scope for actually making that recipe posted and enjoying it.

I should clarify the statement I made about 'eating what my wife eats'!

She follows a heathy diet, and I didn't, really. Now I have to, which means eating things I would previously rather avoid and don't much like but are good for me in the 'new now', that she has eaten for years!

My wife is supportive and is my rock, I would be truly lost without her in so many ways.

Back to 'island life' - no Sainsbury's here! Not much here once outside the capital, to be honest!

They do tend to stock it in Holland and Barrett, yes, certainly (“across”) over here. I remember the other one opposite the bank and M and S. Closed down a few years ago.

To be fair I had forgotten about H&B - I avoid Douglas as much as possible! - there is a healthfood independent in Ramsey.
