What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone and those other folk also.

The wonder wheel a day less ordinary and a menu most carniviour dug out a tantalizing 4.5 this am

It’s Remembrance Day today. Mrs Miggins and I will be on parade at our town senetaph.
Lest we forget.

Have a great day.

Tomorrow here will be Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day.

Yes, same here. Always on 11th November but we have our parade on the nearest Sunday. This one with be the 100th (first in 1919). I have a couple of friends who live in LA and they will be doing similar. We joined the army together in 1968, some of our comrades didn’t make it.

We are close to The National Arboretum where there is a monument with the names of all those who lost their lives since and a slit In The wall where on the 11 hour of the 11th day of the 11th month a beam of sunlight shines through the slit onto the monument. The most upsetting part of the monument is the many blank walls waiting for names to be carved on them.

Edit. For those interested here is a link to the Armed Forces Monument in the Arboretum. An amazing place..

good morning all :)

4.4 today

chilly and damp this morning for the armistice day service but at least it's not as windy as it often is here close by the sea.

We've fed the birds so now it's time for breakfast and coffee :)

Hope your day treats you kindly :)

Morning...a great day yesterday with friends...their children & grandchildren then home by 8:30pm...driving rain all the way home just thankful most were being sensible with their speed...a good sleep then down to the kitchen to find the kitchen clock was on the floor accompanied by some small ceramic pots from the wall unit...I never heard a thing neither were broken spooky?...lots of snacks & buffet grub provided so yes I indulged what can I say I am weak...expected to be hammered by FBG's this morning...to my great surprise woke to a 5.8...I expect it will get me tomorrow.

The uncomplicated part is the 5.4 fbg. Bandwidth for today already used up by 8.07. Beautiful sunny, clear morning with rabbits playing on the lawns whilst I pedalled away on the exercise bike. New mp3 sports headphones (work for swimming as well) successfully populated with tunes from a very old ipod shuffle. Shoebox parcel ready for Operation Christmas Child. Goose ready for early St Martin's day meal with uncle and 89.9 yo MIL. Yesterday village hall had photos of the village from way back when and I bumped into 3 sisters I grew up with but hadn't seen for 40 years. Their mum talked me through a very old photo that solved something about exactly where my dad was born that has always puzzled me. Then, lest we forget. Ben P didn't come back from WW1 but my maternal grandfather did and always gave to the Salvation army who he said were the only ones to bring tea to the front. Paternal grandfather one of the last off at Dunkirk but I had to research that to find out. Then read @dunelm's post and realised just how much I have been shielded. I need a new processor to deal with all that. Have a great day.

Mine too. He was in the signals at the Somme and amazingly survived. I trained Gurkurs for 10 years many who were in the signal unit and they used to tell me he was a very lucky man, not many in the signal unit survived the Somme, it was a very dangerous business laying communication cables. Grandad would never speak about it to any of his family.

Good Morening all. Including politicians.

Rememberence ( cheque spelling ) Sunday.
I wear a poppy to remember all those who gave their lives so that I can choose to wear a poppy.
The national Arboretum:
I called in there on my way down sarf with a motorbiking pal, an incredible place, for me very evocative. So Mrs J and I called in there on a subsequent trip up to the dark and dangerous norf, we will be going back, when I know not.

A 7.5 for me this morning.
Have a good Sunday folks, keep talking.

And lastly a quote from a Professor of Chemistry and science fiction writer Issac Asimov " Violence is the last resort of the incompetent "

Today my fbs should be in the high 6s because of my late meal out - as I predicted it would be when I posted here yesterday.

My meter decided to prove me wrong with a rather unexpected 5.3. Am not complaining though - just a little surprised.

We had a lovely meal out with our friends. Had a lovely homemade beefburger topped with bacon and melted cheese with a small green salad. It wasn't a huge portion and was absolutely delicious.

I never have a desert but when husband's cheesecake came it was topped with blackberries. So I asked if I could have a very small dish of BlackBerries and poured a little bit of my cream for my coffee over them. They were absolutely delicious and they didn't spike my BS at all.

@ianpspurs the clip you posted on fruits that are keto really made me think again about fruit. So thank you for it. Have chosen blackberries and raspberries as the least sweet of all fruit and now add then to my morning kefir, ground flaxseeds, inulin, Greek yogurt and flaked almonds for breakfast.

They really increase the enjoyment of my breakfast significantly but not the carb content.. After watching the clip I haven't properly defrosted them and they are rather nice still frozen.

Glad the video helped and you enjoy the fruit. I wasn't sure about the knowledge base of the presenter and the pearl clutchers come out in hives about fruit so I have not tried yet (still working the morning exercise back into my routine). Berries, Greek yogurt, inulin and flaxseed was how I started this journey. I couldn't do flaked almonds though - almond milk and a very few whole ones are my limit.

I must admit that I chose blackberries and raspberries as the least likely to spike and they definitely don't spike - and strangely after meal readings are a little lower if I eat them with a meal. How each of us react differently to different foods is so fascinating. Someone else might get completely different results.

Unwin's n=1 law really does seem to apply.

Not sure I am supposed to post here. I had been aiming to take a day off work to pass through at the tower but sadly it won’t be possible. Thanks for posting the info graph, btw.
You can post anything in this thread. Full on chat. You've heard it all before anyway Haha.

Morning All. 5.7 today which is satisfactory after a visit to the curry house last night with friends. Really enjoyed the food and company. Back to catch up with Strictly and a nightcap (gin of course). Girl cats and I on the sofa till almost midnight.
So glad the sun is shining for so many veterans today. @Muddy Cyclist I didnt know about the slit in the wall where the beam of light shines through. Poignant memories for so many today.
Have a good Sunday everyone. Stay well, stay safe.

Morning all, late for me and 6.3 this Remembrance Day.

I'd like the opportunity on this special day to post the following. WWII involved many people from many countries, the Great British Empire was still a 'thing' back then. My father was Tibet/Burmese and fought with the British against the Nazis. He settled in the UK after the war and wouldn't hear a bad word spoken about the British or the Monarchy, he loved the fact that he had served 'his Queen'.

We often forget that many that helped the British were not from the Isles. In memory of everyone that served, and to those that gave their lives.
