@JoKalsbeek you deserve a medal for the time and effort you put into helping new members here. Also your grasp of English is impeccable. Better than most native speakers I know.
the way forwards dear man,,,we are here for you,,Evening everyone. I am the husband of Karenb1410 (the starter of this thread) thank you all so much for the advice. I have been really struggling of late. Frustrated with what I was doing wrong and why I couldn't control my blood sugar levels. I've been struggling mentally and lack of energy and moody at times. Now I know why.
In my meetings with my diabetic nurse I have been telling her the type of things I have been eating and she has never commented on the fact I might well be eating the wrong things.
She has always encouraged eating porridge for breakfast, telling me it is a slow release carb and will help keep me fuller for longer.
After reading the thread this morning I had a fried egg, bacon and a sausage. For lunch I had a cheese and ham omelette. Must admit I felt a lot better later in the day. I did my bloods when I returned home and my reading was 7.1
Just had a bit of salad with mackerel and ham and some cheese. About to take my metformin and I am going to skip my statin.
I've no doubt I'll have a lot of questions to ask and I am sure I will get the right answers from fellow members.
Once again thank you so much for the advice and the encouragement.
Sounds like you're well on your way, and seeing immediate results to boot! We have a winner! Mind you, with your blood sugars going down to more healthy levels this fast, it may affect your eyesight for a bit. If things get blurry, it's fine though: Your brain is used to compensating for the distortion in your vision (sugar in your eyes and tears muck things up a bit). It has to get used to not doing that anymore. It'll last about two weeks, if it happens at all, so don't run out and get new specs, you're probably fine just getting some 5 bob reading glasses, as it is temporary. Glad you decided to join! It does get better from here on in. And hey, I had two dieticians, "specialised" in T2, who told me to load up on bread, spuds and pasta, anything low fat... They just didn't have a clue. Even when my HbA1c came back drastically improved and in the normal range, they still said my diet was all wrong. *shrug* The proof is in your meter and in how you feel.Evening everyone. I'm so happy for you. Thanks again for the kind messages and the welcomes.
Only taken the advice from this forum yesterday and already seeing some great results.
Until today my blood readings first thing in a morning were between 10.5 and 12, this morning I was 7.0
Because we haven't yet done our weekly shopping I had the same today at work as I had yesterday. That was a fried egg some bacon and sausage, for lunch I had an omelette with cheese, ham, onions and tomatoes.
Took my readings when I got home and I was 6.3
I feel totally different already. Seem to have more energy, in a good mood and I no longer feel lethargic
Can't believe the difference in such a short period of time
Onwards and upwards
@JoKalsbeek Thank you for your advice and guidance. No affect on my eyes at the moment. But I am already a spectacle wearer, I have been since a child. So I am not expecting to be affected.
sadly most of that would have me ill too.For breakfast it’s either porridge or weetabix. Lunch during the week will be flatbreads with cooked meat and salad plus some fruit and maybe soup. Possibly also some low fat crisps. Tea (dinner! ) we tend to have about 6:30-7:00 and is usually standard protein with a carb and veg. He will sometimes have yogurt and fruit after tea or something else snacky. We tend to go to bed between 9 and 9.30 as we are up shortly after 6 each day
I’ll see if I can get him to join - although not sure he is in the right mental place right now hence my cry for help
Thanks again for the kind messages and the welcomes.
