Took first Metformin this morning
Reading all available info but really looking for real practical advice
Stats where 121.. 16.2 ketone 0.7.
Not really had symptoms but was whilst tall very overweight. Lost 6 stone since last April through diet and excersise but still need to lose more.
The guy confirmed the news and was decent and informative but on arrival home I was panicked,angry,denial etc. Today a little more pragmatic so far. Right at the start of a lifelong battle so very open to advice.. Thanks..

Have you looked at the advice for newbies? Very good information on here and lots of friendliness and advice. Assuming you are type 2, a lot of us here low carb and high fat LCHF. I was lucky and told by my GP to do it lost 8 stone, brought levels down but I’ve fallen off the wagon at the moment due to stress. Some go very low carb around 30 g a day but anything under 130 will give you results. Diet doctor really good for amazing recipes. have a look around the forums it will really help.

My Username is Bernadette56, I’m 69 years old, female, & I was diagnosed with Type2 diabetes 2 weeks ago. I am 5ft 2ins & weigh 7st 10lbs & never dreamed I would be a candidate for diabetes.
I was born in Ireland but have been living in London since 1971. I’ve been married for 47 years, have 2 children & 3 grandchildren, the youngest is only 2.
I’ve been fit & healthy all my adult life, never had any serious illnesses, until the headaches started in January & got progressively worse. My GP sent me to the Royal Free where my bs reading was 23.9 & ketones were 2.1. I was put on a drip, given an insulin shot, then on a heart monitor & finally a chest X-ray. My fingers were pricked so many times I lost count but I can’t praise the staff enough for the way they looked after me. In the 7 hours that I was there they were constantly checking me for something & it wasn’t until 3 days later when my GP told me that I’d been quite unwell, then I realised why I was getting so much attention.
So now I’m on the metformin, in liquid form as I can’t swallow tablets, & it’s the most awful stuff ever. At least my bs is down to mostly single figures & the headaches are practically gone. I’m just still trying to come to terms with this at the moment, I’ve received no info on what I’m supposed to eat or drink, I know it’s because of the virus & no face to face appointments, so I’m hoping to get some answers on here.

Hi everyone, pleased to meet you
This is my first post & I hope to contribute to this forum where I am able and look forward to reading your threads & comments,

I was diagnosed four years ago with T2 diabetes with an Hba1c of 53 and managed to control my blood glucose levels initially with low carb high fat diet. I was prescribed Metformin but after 6wks of misery I couldn't tolerate the dire side effects of this med anymore so I chose instead to reduce my bgls with diet & exercise only. Eventually after about 15months of determination & tenacity I reduced my Hba1c to 31. I'd achieved to put my Diabetes into remission

However, since lockdown I've found my appetite has increased and although I still watch the amount of carbs I eat I'm afraid my portion size has increased as too my weight! Now my bgls range between 6 - 9 sometimes higher! Exercise is limited because of a number of health issues but I'm managing to walk 2K - 3K steps a day.

Hello, My name is Sipho Mbelle. I am a South African, 58 years old and have been living with Type2 diabetes for about 11 years. I recently bought myself a CGM unit, and it has massively improved how I manage my diabetes. Among other things, it has rekindled my quest for more knowledge about the disease, which is how I came across this forum.
