Hello to everyone :)

I've been readying this forum for a while and find it very very useful so thanks to everyone that contribute!

My story is quite similar to those I have already read here. I have been having the RP symptoms since I remember, not knowing what's wrong. It wasn't that often and that hard so somehow I managed to live through it. Also, in my early 20s I was diagnosed with PCOS but not insulin resistance.

I was on the contraceptives about past 12 years or so and half year ago decided to give a try and stop it. And the result are as expected - after 3 months acne started no periods. So I went to the endocrinologist and all the hormones seems OK. I did also OGTT and here are the results:

Glucose fasting: 4,3 mmol
after 1h: 6,4 mmol
after 2h: 3,5 mmol

Insulin fasting: 4,7 mU/l
after 1h 38,8 mU/l
after 2h: 14,5 mU/l

I did not have symptoms in the lab but right after, in 3rd hour I had a very strong crash :(
My A1c is 36 mmol.

Do you think it's HP?

Also question - to those with HP on low carb, keto diet. How did you find your transition from high carb into low? I am trying to stay low carb for 3 days already now and I feel terrible. I started to eat more often today but still I am sweating and ex housed.

Your OGTT results should be interpreted as being normal because you do not have diabetic numbers. However, the next step should be a longer extended OGTT, which is up to a couple hours longer than the standard two hour test.
This will show positively that you are definitely having a hypoglycaemic episode or not!
Unless you get the extended test, you won't know. And they should be followed up with at least another couple of tests for diagnosis.

I have been in ketosis for nearly seven years and I wouldn't change because it works!
RH is all about what you eat! And if you avoid the foods that causes the symptoms and the hypos, your health will improve.
There will be a period of adjustment, your body will not like you not eating carbs, it will try all sorts of symptoms to get more carbs in you! You have to be strong willed, it will last for a few days, but once past that, you will feel a lot better.

Keep asking, keep safe.

thank you, I already feel better after reading your response, or maybe because I just had a 1,5h nap :D

I have a phone call scheduled next week with diabetes doc, I hope she will ask for more testing. And do you think being on low carb is still OK when you plan to have OGTT? Will it not influence somehow the results?

and how is your doctors approach to low carb/keto? they approve of it?

Hi again,

Do persist with getting the tests, also, it would be a great idea to do a food diary and if you have a glucometer, take readings before and after meals to show how much low carb is helping.
All my eOGTT tests were done by fasting beforehand, up to twelve hours pre test.
And it shouldn't effect the test.
At first my specialist endocrinologist was telling me to go low carb but not go Keto.
It took me a while to persuade him how well I was doing without going hypo. My yearly test results were really good and my health improved.
He actually recommended this website.

My GP was a different story, he doubted everything and when he checked my health history, he called me weird, he took some persuading to help me, especially with prescription issues and my dietary regime. Since then he has left and my latest GP won't let me leave the surgery without discussing my whole ordeal and how I was diagnosed and of course how my food choices helps me. I am in fact, very healthy for a pensioner, my last result last October, couldn't have been better.
When you realise, that if you want to feel good, you eat to do this. It is food that is doing this to you. They may be healthy for everyone else, but they are not for us!
With RH, we cannot tolerate most carbs, sugary, starchy foods. We have to find out a balance of food that doesn't give us the symptoms and the hypos!

Keep asking, keep safe.
