My daughter spent four years as a doctor to asylum seekers,
Many people have a skewed idea of what seeking asylum means who asylum seekers are & what have been through...so all credit to your daughter...the irony is many are fleeing persecution from countries that have been affected by western politics economics & the ensuing conflicts that result.

Good Morning and 5.6 for me today.

Wet here today, backache gone but now my abscess from tooth a few weeks ago started swelling and hurting again so a day trying to get to see my dentist. I feel like I'm becoming the forums hypochondriac :banghead:

Seeing two eldest grandaughters for evening meal, without their dad was very enlightening, funny and entertaining, lovely to be with them for a few hours.

Take the day as it comes. Keep safe.

5.2 this morning. Was in the 3s yesterday. I did feel very hungry for a while - but I ignored it and it went away. I think my liver was being lazy and couldn't be bothered to break down liver fat for energy. But it did eventually find some and I was OK.

Very annoying that admin and stuff I have to do is continuing to expand to fit the time available - so I still haven't finished it.

Hi Harry,
I don't know how long it will take for humans to act humanely, universally and to heal the planet we rely on for our future lives?
It is a very difficult problem to solve and since we still have children going to school hungry in this country and food banks are feeding more who are being tipped into poverty, it is sadly going to be a long job.

Good morning all. Whether you are trying to contact a dentist, secretly making beetroot bread, awaiting food deliveries or evaluating news stories I hope the bird of paradise flies up your nose, as it were - none too sure about an elephant caressing you by the toes. Today will be salmon and avocado salad day which in my LC world is absolutely Glilette. Mass flu jab here today at somewhere called the Jubilee Centre - have postcode will travel. Once my body has adapted to what is injected at said Centre the crushing disappointment of testing resumes. Apparently it is fireworks time in parts of the USA but as @lindisfel says I pray for their recovery but can't help feeling as others have said it is a massive coincidence given the polls and his debate effort.

Grandchildren - such joy.
Sorry to read about the return of the abscess and hope that you can get some dental treatment - Tom Hanks in that film Cast Away has some dark and dangerous tips.

Good morning everyone from a mixed bag of a start in the dark and dangerous north

The wonder wheel of bacon and eggs with home made fibreFlour beetroot bread came in at 5.2 this am

Not made beetroot bread before but it’s great. Downside is that Mrs Miggins also likes it even though it’s primarily “that fake flour stuff”. Oh well - secret squirrel bread making it is.

Youngest granddaughter today. We were meeting up with a couple of old friends today who are touring in their camper but they have decided not to travel any further north due to areas squeezing into lockdown. We are OK at present but Middlesbrough, just up the road is now surrounded by people in robes and bird shaped masks.

Have a wonderful Friday, hope that storm Alex does not interfere too much with your weekend.
Today, the last of the elderberries. Koffy

This is lovely @dunelm
The birds ate all my elderberries as they ripened...none left now

football, both the game and the culture.
Storm Alex has already visited us. MrSlim is up on the roof making hasty repairs, I am picking up the apples, looks like 95% came down last night. Then onto packing away garden furniture and pulling up the beans (still cropping) that were flattened, even the leeks look a bit battered this morning and we have two trees leaning that cannot be allowed to fall. One potentially ending up in the lane, the other would demolish neighbours fence.
Will someone tell those rainclouds their appt was for 5pm, dont need the roof any more slippy than it already is and i have washing to dry.

There are many examples of how western 'forces' have necessitated the need for many to flee their own countries...the big oil companies who raised havoc in Nigeria...Somalis escaping civil war...Afghanistan there are many more who have fled with legitimate cause only to be met with 'you're coming here for a free ride'...a majority who seek asylum had comfortable lifestyles...a good standard of living Syria is a prime example of that until of course the war erupted.

Still a white frost in the field adjacent to our cottage at 0915.
Not a good time of year to meet in gardens. Just as well since further measures on mixing, short of the NE's, have been taken to stem the tide here. Just two family bubbles can mix at one time as long they are not over six.
But not the law as yet.
Barmy where people have massive gardens but it has to be universally applied.
We broke the law in the last peak, we were talking to our friends in our hamlet when two friends from church were on a six mile walk through, we were socially distanced but broke the law on mixing, chatting together for twenty minutes.

We all live on a very fine knife edge in these times. I watched Doctor Zhivago a few nights back, yes I know it's romantic tosh but a great film nevertheless. It bought to mind How quickly things can change and comfortable life styles lost in the blink of an eye for survival. Also we must realise it's not just the rich and powerful that cause inequality and hardship, it's the taste of power in any level of society, intellectual socialists, far right extremists, organised religion of all denominations and the list goes on, humans en mass do not seem to hold on to humanity. Sorry I will get off my soap box

I agree so no soap box criticism here...we sign up to an international treaty/law so we need to adhere to its principles...oops forgot we don't have to do that now since The Overseas Operations Bill was passed.

@dunelm thanks for the welcome :) The only white thing i've been eating is cauliflower as a fake rice... i wasnt keen on the idea of it and now i really enjoy it :) but yea those carbs are sneaky and i have been tracking carbs on a app and also reading the food packaging alot. It's funny you mentioned yogurts because i've really fancied some but i'm really unsure which is a good choice. todays bloods were 6.2 again :)

6.2 - pretty good that. Cauliflower is also good for making “mash” - shove it into a blender to make “rice” and then squeeze as much water out of it as you can - I also make pancake like drop scone things with it - good with bacon and eggs. Full fat greek yoghurt is probably the best bet - about 4.5% carbs. Lidl do a good one in a big pot.
