Hey there.... I'm also newly diagnosed.... Monday. I've had no support from docs so far & due to Christmas won't be seeing the diabetic nurse until January. I've started low carbing but feeling overwhelmed!!! The forum is great, it's good to know that there's other people out there.

Welcome. We all felt overwhelmed at first. Any immediate questions?

Diet doc has loads of low carb recipes to try I’m only a newbie to I’m 4 weeks in as type 2 also just had my first diabetes nurse call last week x

Thank you. I've been reading that there is no 'one size fits all' in terms of how many carbs per meal to aim for....but I really have no idea where to start. All I know is that my blood sugar was 55? As yet no meds or advice .

Thank you, I've had a brief look at diet Dr but will re visit.

Do you have a meter to test your own bg by finger pricks? That's the best tool to help you figure out what is right for you

That's the low end of a newly diagnosed T2, but solidly diabetic. The good news is that you may not have to reduce your carbs that drastically to bring your levels back to normal. Get a meter, reduce your carbs, and see what your body can tolerate.

Echoing the advice already given; you're in the diabetic range, but nothing too awful. Cutting back on carbs some should make quite a difference. If you have a meter, test before a meal and 2 hours after the first bite. You're aiming for a rise of 2.0 mmol/l or less. If you can't get a meter due to the holidays, just pick a number of carbs you think you might be able to stick with, like 100, 80 or 60 grams a day, and just get started with the carb lowering until a meter arrives and tells you how you're coping. Could well be by the time you see someone, your numbers will have improved so much, you won't need medication!

Good luck!
Jo

Hi and welcome. Good that you are low-carbing. Do get hold of a meter. The figure of 55 isn't too bad; my last test was 58 which I need to do something about!
