Newly diagnosed: (fasting) blood glucose questions

It’s not unusual for that to happen. The liver is a very ‘helpful’ organ and if it gets worried about all manner of things, including where the next meal is coming from, it can push out glucose to help things along. Shows apart from anything else that what you ate suits you!
That’s very reassuring thank you @Goonergal ! I really appreciate all the help and advice :)

I may be over thinking but my blood sugar is going much lower than my fasting blood glucose level after a meal. I was 7.2 mmol/L at 8:24 before opening my fast and then was 4.2mmol/L at 11:11 I know slightly later than two hours after my first bite of the meal but I got distracted with watching some television with the family.

I think I am getting paranoid hehe

So, the meal was breakfast??? In any case lower is better so it is all good. Honestly, 53 is a pretty low starting diabetic hba1c so there is a good chance that you won't have to change that much to improve your levels.

And I don't know if this makes any difference, but it can be much easier for younger people to lose weight than older ones, and I suspect it may also be easier for you to reverse metabolic syndromes (aka T2). Just remember that you could be T1 so if your levels start to go back up again after the low carb has improved them, push your doctor to do the tests. (T1 is not a death sentence, just a pain, and has the advantage that it will give you more dietary freedom).
@EllieM no I am currently fasting so this was after opening my fast in the evening so 8:30 was right before I start eating and then at 10:30 just two hours after my first bite.

I am on a strict low carb diet and hope this will help in bringing my HbA1c level down to the 40s.

I am hoping for just that to lose weight and reverse it. However that is interesting I will have to speak to my diabetic nurse during my consultation with her in the upcoming weeks. Thank you for the advice :)

I started to eat a low carb diet in my early 20s because that is what suited me best - and it is - to my way of thinking - far tastier than the high carb 'healthy' foods we are supposed to thrive on. It was much easier to maintain weight and I could see others flagging or struggling - my nickname was Smiler back then because I was insufferably cheerful in the wee small hours, in the rain when we were lost after a heavy gig - even when we didn't get paid.
It took until I was 65 to get a diagnosis of type two, but I have always had a problem with carbs - I have no problem with - for instance - steak, mushrooms and cauliflower mash, or any other of my low carb meals
@Resurgam honestly that sounds encouraging I think I have always struggled with carbs and they became my comfort food in challenging times. Time to break the habit. Lovely to hear you have overcome the carb problem well done!
Did you over go on the keto diet?

I am in ketosis most of the time, as I stick to under 40 gm of carbs a day - but I follow the rules of Atkins as 'KETO' seems far more rigid.
I find things such as sugar free jelly with cream and berries is quite comforting - as are the stews and stirfries, the omelettes and other concoctions I make.
Try cauliflower cheese rather than macaroni cheese for instance - put almost cooked cauliflower into a warm dish, cover with cream cheese, sprinkle on any herb or spice you fancy, then cover with grated cheese - I like Red Leicester, then you can add a topping of blue cheese if you like stronger tastes, then place the dish into a warm oven until the cheese is just melting and slightly golden.

Don’t worry too much. Your fasting level in the morning is likely to be higher than many other readings (look up Dawn Phenomenon) and for type 2s not on meds, the lowest reading of the day is often the one immediately before dinner. You’ll soon get used to your own patterns and be able to spot when something’s off track.

@Resurgam oh wow that’s amazing. I am on a low carb diet myself now and was craving chocolate so brought a 85% dark chocolate from Lindt hehe. Oh that sounds so good and rich I will definitely be trying it thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the suggestions really appreciate it :) have a lovely weekend!

Thank you so much @Goonergal as always your always so helpful and supportive!
I see okay that eases me I will now test for my fbg and the two tests in the evening one before dinner and one after two hours to distinguish patterns and hopefully good ones.
I think I especially before summer is here would be great to get my bg levels under control. I think everyone had been waiting for a normal Ish summer for a long time now.
Have a great weekend :)!
