Coming off Metformin - Any withdrawal symptoms?

I’m hopefully coming off Metformin tablets soon.

Are there any withdrawal symptoms to be expected when coming off Metformin?

Has anyone experienced symptoms when coming off Metformin?

It would be good to know.

Only positive:
  1. No more prescription dependency
  2. No more anxiety when running low on tablets
  3. Nothing foreign within the body
  4. Removal of contraindicated drug (in my case)
  5. Removal of unknown long term usage risks
  6. Answer as to can my body self regulate
  7. Freedom

JaimieKershaw I get to see my diabetic nurse on September 8th for the first time since moving here in July last year. My bg readings during the seven weeks since I began LC/HF have stayed in the 5's mostly, and are now in the lower 5's, so I am hoping that means my HBA1C results will be favourable? If so then I will ask if it's okay to stop my one per day metformin tablet. :)

Good luck with that. Sounds like you’ve done a good job to get your blood sugar levels down

Thank you but I'm not being too complacent just yet. Things always see to go wrong if/when I get too thrilled with my health! :D

Just when I think my body has got use to it…..I feel sick again. It’s like all day morning sickness without the thing that makes that worthwhile; a baby growing inside you. X

With me, nothing but good came from coming off Metformin. No bad side effects what so ever.
 
One of the other positive effects of stopping Metformin was that my B12 levels improved dramatically and have remained in the mid to high range since.
 
I have decided that I am going to stop metformin I only take 1 tablet a day so it makes very little diference to my blood sugars and when I got my HbA1c down to normal levels and came off them I did initialy experience no side effects except worry about my weight and the possibilty of an increased apitite that that was the only reason my doctor agreed to put me back on them but I have put a little of the eight stone I lost back on anyway but not to much and as my eGFR has now dropped to 38 I no longer feel comfortable taking them as they are not good for the kidneys.though I never suffered any major problems taking them in that respect I was lucky if they had caused me as much of a problem as many have suffered with them I would have ditched them long ago.

I wish my brain eyes and fingers would start to work in unison again I have had to correct this post so many times I'm getting repetative strain injury.
 
I was taking 4 metformin per day and stopped taking them, got terrible depression for first time in my life, been 8 weeks now and it’s tapering off
