Hi all. New to this forum but wanted to give it a try. I'm type 2 for some time now but I get very angry about it. I'm on medication, no insulin, but have dreadful diarrhea for about 2 hours after I get up. I also have to eat a reasonable meal every 3 hours or I lose my balance. Has anyone else had these types of issues and if so, how have you managed them? Many thanks for any assistance as i know i have to do something about this. Thank you

@Teresa9584 That sound like either low blood pressure or low blood glucose to me.
It's possible that your doses of one or more of the medications is too high.

Do you test your Blood Glucose and/or Blood Pressure at such times?
Dr David Unwin (famous for Low Carb way of eating ) said he found he had to reduce and the stop his own and other patients Blood Pressure medication when they started eating Low Carb.

Teresa, have you discussed these problems with your doctor or nurse at all?

Which meds do you take? Metformin can sometimes cause loose tummy. It sometimes goes by other names, depending on the brand.

Hello and welcome,

I understand how having this condition can make you feel upset. If you can find some of my very early posts you will see that I was throwing myself a real pity party.

So a couple of things- do you have a meter and test your levels regularly? If not I would really recommend that you do. The meter will allow you to experiment to find out what food your body can tolerate.

Secondly- I also found myself having symptoms from Metformin. I changed to having the tablet at night after a meal and my symptoms went away so it may be worth trying different times. That may not work but others may have more suggestions.

Thirdly the symptoms may not be diabetic related (or they may be) the body is very complex so I agree with the suggestion you discuss them with your doctor.

Fourthly- you say you are angry about having the condition. Is that because you have to change what you eat or something else? Let us know to see if we can make some suggestions. I am a real carb loved and was very distressed at the beginning. Thanks to this forum I am fine- better than fine. The people here are awesome and 'listened' to me venting and gave me great suggestions.

Welcome and let us know how we can help.

Hi. If you are taking Metformin and it's the plain form do ask the GP to change it to Metformin SR (Slow Release) which should cure the bowel issues.

Hi. I've tested both blood pressure and blood sugar at these times and both are in the normal range for me.

Hi. Thank you for your response and I've tried to talk to both the doctor who said talk to the diabetic nurse, and the diabetic nurse who suggested I talk to the doctor as she couldn't help. Round in circles! So I thought I would ask this community as you seen so knowledgeable and helpful. I do take Metformin (Sukkarto) along with Gliclazide and Empagliflozin.

Thank you for the suggestion. I think it's the slow release but I'll check with the diabetic nurse. Thank you once again.

Hi and many thanks for your response.

I do have a meter and test morning and night but not generally through the day unless I'm feeling unwell. Daytime readings are always pretty constant.

I'll check if I'm on slow release and also if I can change the time I take the tablets as this may impact on the other medication but I will definitely check.

I will go back to the doctor but he has already told me he doesn't know what might be causing the unbalanced issue and advised I talk to the diabetic nurse. I'll try this again.

Regarding the anger, I really struggle with that. If I try to research or dig deeper into managing my diabetes, I get very angry, depressed and end up in tears. I know I'm overweight and should exercise more than I do but I think I end up being scared and then carry on as if I didn't have diabetes and was just a normal person. I know there are people with so much worse conditions they live with but that doesn't help when I'm in my pit of despair and darkness. Yep! Tears now.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will follow these up.

Hi. The tablet I'm on is Sukkarto SR 1000mg prolonged release tablet so is slow release. I take 2 with my meal at 18:30 each day but will speak to the diabetic nurse for more advise.

I really sympathise- to let you know exactly how pathetic I felt I can tell you it was at least 2 weeks before I didn't cry everyday about my condition. In fact if you didn't know better you would have assumed I'd been diagnoses with a terminal illness and that was pretty much how I felt. So please know that it will get better. What you are experiencing is real and a lot here have experienced it but you have found this site and that will make a lot of difference.

So another virtual hug.

When taking medication - though it was only for a few weeks, I became very distressed, emotional and had suicidal thoughts - but then I was losing my mind and was explosively incontinent so perfectly justifiable, really. It was all the more infuriating to realise I never needed to go through all that in the first place. I eat low carb foods and have low blood glucose, almost normal Hba1c and have lost both weight and volume and I think that having to relearn and rehearse songs and music has improved my mental state
