A newbie..

I think Sweetex (brand name) is making me dizzy ..any info please.

...am ok with changing my diet as i spent a few years as a veggie and pescetarian (aka fish n chips 3 x month taking my friend and kids for a sit in dinner)
I'm sure its not changing foods...any one else have similar...

I'm T2 just diet at the moment hoping stopping drinking gallons of fruit juice will change things. (i had a large tumber of apple juice before my docs appointment for blood test results...and the nurse tested my blood sugars...der ...little did i know a T2 diagnosis was happening. The glucose test there and then was 22 ..(full blood test result111...whats that? Its Pure fruit juice by the gallon for years!).

Am hoping going for a no sugar, low carb diet means i will achieve a reversal.

Also anyone know of no sugar fruit juices? I miss my 1.5L fruit juice a day...plus punnet grapes or strawbs and smoothies.

Do sweeteners increase sugar test on the monitors?

Thx

Hi, welcome :)

Fruit juice is pretty much a no no. If you want lower blood sugar, you have to have a lower blood sugar intake, hopefully you can unlearn your need for sweet juice drinks, have you tried a no added sugar squash, robinsons barley squash seems to keep my numbers happy, we all understand the joy of giving up the things we love to eat and drink, no pain no gain, sorry, I hope you find a good balance of life vs sugar.

Thanks, I've gone back to tea and coffee but think sweetex is making me dizzy...i've stopped it but think other sweeteners may be the same.

Oh sorry I misunderstood, I have heard things about sweeteners that don’t sound too good but have never had any problems, perhaps you are getting lower numbers than from before due to your changes and your body is misinterpreting these as low blood sugars? If this is the case, it’s normal and will pass, I am not saying that this is it, just one possibility. Another thing might be worth checking is your blood pressure if the dizziness is when you stand etc. I hope you get an answer, I have zero medical knowledge, just guessing so please wait for someone with a more functioning brain to come along, that’s just about everyone else :)

Sweetex is saccharin, it's different than a lot of the other sweeteners. There are sugar alcohols, which do have some small amounts still of carbs and people react widely different to them. The safest ones of those is erythritol. There is aspartame which really isn't very good for you. There is also stevia which is from a plant and probably the safest choice and no carbs.

But there are fruit infused water with no sweeteners or there is also fruit infused water with sweeteners. My husband likes one a lot that uses stevia and erythritol. Stevia also comes in all sorts of fruit flavors you can add to water. Some argue that using any of them won't help you get away from craving sweets.

But fruit juices, sweetened sodas, same thing............solid liquid sugar. Try eating berries as a fruit to eat, the safest for not raising your blood sugar that much. especially blueberries. And buy a meter so you can test and know what your blood sugars are reacting to.

Thanks for the info its really useful...will make some fruit waters myself and sweeten with the one you suggest:)

Thanks, I dont think its the diet change, its straight after i take the first drink from a cup of tea with sweetex...not any other drink or time. Unless its because its a hot drink in hot weather...i've always been somewhat food intolerant so will just take one thing at a time...it wont hurt to learn to not have sweetener at all...but a nice cuppa tea is a good 'go to' when everything else is being modified...i'll just try each one, week by week and see if theres one that suits me i think. All the changes are quite expensive though :)

I think i'm replying in the wrong place....

Ingredients
Sweetener (Sodium Saccharin), Anticaking Agents (Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate)
Thanks Goonergal, up until now I've kept a food intolerance diary as i'm not very good with chemicals; food or environment so thats most likely the answer..how can something so small have all those ingredients...I expect one or two a day is ok but I'm using them too much, i'll just have to acquire a taste for no sweetening as they probably all have the same chems to create the tiny tablets, not go off and dissolve:) its good to think things through with folks who understand thx

It might help while you are in the transitional phase to have water/fizzy water with a THIN slice of lemon or lime, or any size slice you like of ginger. Your tastes might change radically once you are through the sweetness craving that you satisfied with fruit juice. Good in black tea as well. I often have ginger in my tea.

@Dily The Stevia comes in a liquid that I like. They make fruit flavors, besides things like caramel, chocolate, vanilla. And their ingredients aren't bad. The chocolate makes great chocolate milk or chocolate coffee! I use just 5 drops and the bottle goes a long way, at 2oz, it has 290 servings of 7 drops, or 288 servings of 5 drops, depending which brand But the chocolate which is my fav right now just has
Vitacost- vegetable glycerine, water, stevia leaf extract and natural dark chocolate flavor.
Wisdom Natural or Sweetleaf- Purified water, cocoa extract, organic stevia leaf extract, natural flavor
Wisdom makes a ton of different flavors with them all having similar simple ingredients.
