Hello everyone,
Hope all’s well!
Reaching out as interested to hear how people are currently finding treatment, hospital appointments and the like.
And before I go into my current ordeal I’m by no means going to be slating the NHS as I’m fully aware of the amazing job they do and the pressures they are under. I also wouldn’t be alive right now without the treatment/ advancements in diabetes.
That said, my recent experiences are somewhat below expectation.
First of all, I’m due an upgrade on my current insulin pump, which is now out of warranty.
I was recommended the Ypso Pump, which for me sounds better than the alternatives; T Slim or the Omnipod. I’ve had no update after several emails and consultations and it is getting frustrating. I was then also told on my last appointment the funding for the Ypso pump might no longer be available, which obviously can’t be helped but is still a shame.
And I’m then still without any proper updates or information on next steps. My current emails are going without any reply.
This then brings me on to my next point around appointments. My last appointment was over the phone for no real reason as my phone ones prior have been in person. I’m sure you’ll agree there’s no real value in a consultation over the phone as it’s difficult to articulate and discuss this kind of matter.
On one previous occasion I had an appointment (in person) I raised with the psychiatrist that I was struggling mentally and had to dig really deep to share some of the dark thoughts I was having and how tough things were. They were obviously sympathetic to the situation and said they would also speak to the doctor at the hospital who may also help with some of the things I brought up. This was comforting as I felt people would be able to help me…
The next time I had the session with the same psychiatrist when I got there they hadn’t spoke to a doctor at the hospital and instead recommended I see a GP, further to that then recommended online talking services (which I’ve tried in the past and didn’t work).
My point here is that it took a lot for me to share a lot of personal things with this person and on the next occasion seeing them it was like it never happened and I was just been passed on.
Luckily at the moment I’m not feeling in a suicidal place but the problem is things are not being dealt with and I’m struggling to get the support I need from my hospital and diabetes specialists. I’m feeling more and more like just a number that’s ticked off on a list rather than getting the tailored and personal service that we all require.
Is anyone else struggling to get seen/ updates on medication etc?
Keen to hear about your experiences.
Cheers!
Rick
