What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

One goat, without some extra input, won't give you milk. But they are funny, friendly creatures and worth keeping. Once you have the milk, you have to think about what to do with the extra goats (usually multiple births) - male? Either put it down in short order or raise it for meat and then get it slaughtered. Female? Keep her to increase the milking herd eventually, or sell her on. But the kids are so cute and amusing that you just want to hang on to them. Bad idea if the kid is a male - they become pretty obnoxious as they grow up. It's never as simple as it sounds. Goat meat can be pretty good, though.

Edit: Actually - just noticed that Ian said that goats stink - they shouldn't if they are properly cared for. The males do, of course, once they grow up, but the females are clean and really don't smell. They will, though, eat some odd things if you don't watch them. Ours loved my Dad's burned pipe tobacco and would keep trying to get the lit pipe out of his mouth. Alternatively, they liked to pluck feathers from the tail of any unwary chicken within reach. Daffodils are supposed to be poisonous to goats - in the goat v daffodil battle, the goats won, the daffodils died! Never found that they wanted to eat our washing though.
My mum had a herd of Anglo-Nubian goats, 25 or 30. I once went with her to rub a rag on a billy goats head (you hang it in the goat shed and it brings on the goats before the billy visits) - even wrapped in countless layers, we had all the windows of that Morris open all the way home! Oh! Goat proof fences - no such thing.

They were sponsoring goats for Africa at church some years ago. I would say to Marjorie in a loud whisper, "buy a goat and sponsor a Desert!"
I worked on a 4 way breed goat project in East Africa - it’s a cut and carry situation where food is brought to the goat in an enclosure - otherwise, as you say, they turn everything into a wasteland. We trained para-vets who also kept all the breeding records as well as billy keepers. Goats were given free, with training, on the understanding that the first offspring is given back to the project. Goats provided not only just milk and meat but the dung makes good fuel for a Jeko cooker.

On the nighttime wild life camera, the fox, checking that cat was not there...that cat was nowhere...it made him very nervy because both Jade and Midnight have taken to leaping off the swing when they hear the fox, and stalking him in the undergrowth...even Ghost Cat has joined in on this act...
A very good 16 second close up of Foxy Loxy...

Wonderful art, love it

It's approaching 8 am and I'm all ready to go for my endoscopy. Actually dreamed I had already arrived at the hospital - in a car we no longer have, with people who are no longer with us, other than Neil. Got to the ward to be told that there would be a long wait "because there is a Board meeting going on." Asked why we were called in at 9.30 if nobody would be seen until late afternoon, the nurse just shrugged. I felt a spurt of anger ... and woke up to find I was nowhere near ready to go yet, so hustled around a bit and here I am, bag almost packed and not allowed to eat until after the procedure but already hungry and FBG of 5.4. Have to watch that.
All the best for your procedure and for a good outcome. Take a moment to think carefully when asked if you would like to watch on the screen.

Still remaking the huge curtain which at some point will have to become two, so as to fit the curtain rails already fitted to the door that is actually a window in MrSlims mind.
Hand stitching a 240cm hem atm.
Have taken a friends advice and now use a water spray on Kiki when she bites. This as well as a ten or fifteen minute time out in the shower room seems to be getting the message across. She still bites but nowhere near so frequently and with less ferocity. Kiki really dislikes being shut away from us and cries pitifully to be let out. She is a very sociable creature, wants to be near one of us all the time, but not cuddly or affectionate. We are slowly learning how to live together.
A hug for the hand sewing

Good morning everyone from a lovely quiet (so far) morning here in the dark and dangerous north. According to the Pastifarian calender it’s Moustache Appreciation Day although the wode wearers over the wall have appropriated the festival for some bloke called Andy. Meanwhile, on the telly box there seems to be some international National Anthem singing contest going on or it could be a falling over contest for prospective stunt people. Whatever. Art bit, all the scratchy bits are now scratched in so some colour now needs adding for tomorrow. Have the best day that you can and try and compliment anyone sporting a moustache - I shall certainly be doing that when I wake Mrs Miggins with her morning tea. Meantime, better make koffy.

Thank you for sharing those wonderful scratchy bits before their glory is intensified by the addition of colour. If you are a chap who heeds advice I'd venture to say if you insist on offering Mrs Miggins compliments on her lip creation do wear waterproofs and a sturdy helmet. As for the falling over/anthem competition the Rishter and Jeremy the sugar puff bear are loving Ingerland staying in as in some mysterious way they will say it increases gdp and is a Brexit benefit. Not sure how they deal with the fake news of our only win being under a Labour govt in the evil 60s. Mr Pickle must be enjoying the tournament and dreaming of his chance but in a more user friendly setting. Not sure the context for the next one is as free and equal as those Founding Father's hoped. If Trump is elected surely he'll ban anyone crossing to and from Mexico. Canada may be ok though.

I did the compliments thing before I woke her - can’t be too careful! Mr Pickle is of course enjoying the tournament immensely and can even understand the jumble of words exiting the mouths of commentators. He was round a couple of days ago and gave me the lowdown. All the Mexicans will no doubt go on holiday to Canada and stroll over.

We still have lots of the tools my father collected - museum pieces now, many of them. There are 2 mattocks amongst them a larger one and a smaller one. We've certainly never used them but I have a vague idea of how they should be used. With the ground that we had, it was more a job for a pick axe.
The very first time my father met my at the time boyfriend, was when he came up to the house with an axe and introduced himself! My hubby needed an axe to remove a tree stump! Dad introduced himself and hubby did too, they were lifelong friend till my dads passing but they were so alike, in so many ways engineer by trade and jack of all trades also. We inherited so many tools it was unbelievable!

If you were closer I would have made the curtains and adjustments for you (free of charge). I am in the process of making curtains to cover a walk in wardrobe - floor to ceiling curtains ;)

6.5 this morning on a really cold, damp dark morning here. Can feel the damp this year in my bones, its horrid might take a cod liver oil supplement although it will take a while to kick in I expect .

The next tournament will be played in all 3 countries so if Trumpty Dumpty were to win one assumes teams drawn to play in Mexico would be eliminated as illegal immigrants for the U S of A games. However, compared to the carnage he would unleash that is neither here nor there. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-63802649 yes, but what about Mr Big? Or our own seditious conspirator (s) come to that?

Quick trip to ATS to get two wipers replaced on Fabia front. Then quick across road to Lidl to get some pizza without BBQ sauce to keep family from York filled slightly until evening meal after they arrive Saturday lunch time.
By the time we walked to post and went to only B.S. and factory shop the morning had flown by.
3degC today, cloudy with penetrating damp.

Stay indoors and keep warm fella. There's an even more chill wind a comin made by Blonde Ambition, the Barnard Castle Optician, the bile spewed out for years by Fake News Nigel (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/63806518) and eagerly echoed by a cast of the swivel eyed. Or so Hugh Pill says. Of course, I may have misunderstood and paraphrased him slightly.

Our eldest is a bit of a character. She would have made an excellent mother but it was not to be.

She received her female Roman Soldier uniform yesterday and she's off to Hexham and the Roman Wall for a week, wearing this actors stuff when she goes round the Roman sites.
I asked her for some picts but she thought I was joking.
When she was young she was fascinated by the toilets at Housteads and explained how they worked and were very efficient.

Hopefully when she comes over for the day next Wednesday we can get up to date.

Then they are off to Scargill House in the Dales on Friday next week for the weekend. Its a sort of C of E retreat.

Wasn't quite what I imagined. Usually the hospital schedules diabetics at the top of the list to avoid BG issues, but not this time. Got there at 9.30 but hung around for a couple of hours before they came to form fill and get consent for the procedure, then another 3 before they got to my turn. They seemed to be working very slowly. Everyone there was having the same procedure and in that time they got through 8 patients. They kept saying "it only takes 5 minutes" but I couldn't figure out where the rest of the time was going in that case.

Did I really want sedation? Yes, I did. By the time they got to me, I was already horribly stiff and in serious pain so laying, unsedated on my left side (the worst side for me) wasn't something I wanted to contemplate. Of course, getting blood, or inserting a needle for anything is never easy with my veins. 2 nurses tried, and gave up and just left it at that. Shrugged their shoulders and said they couldn't do it. That was about 1.30. An hour later, an older nurse (one who actually worked with my husband during one of his spells trying to leave seafaring) tried a few times and managed to get it in. Then I was whisked into the theatre, settled onto my painful left side and then given the sedative. Of course, it didn't kick in for about 15 minutes, by which time the procedure was done with lots of gagging on my part and lots of reassurances from the nurses that I was doing fine! The tubes they used were also bigger than the ones they used last time. Certainly the actual time spent looking at my stomach was very brief - less than the five minutes. Not sure what they had time to look at in the 2 or 3 minutes it took. Wheeled back to the ward and I went to sleep then - sedative kicking in.

I shall be less blase about it next time they want to see my stomach wall.

At least that's it over for another year - I hope! BG stayed a fairly stable 7 - 9 until I woke up to a cup of tea and some toast.n After that it shot upwards, currently 10.5 and still rising. I did take insulin before eating as well, but perhaps not enough. Not to worry. Tomorrow is another day.
