What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone on a splendidly quiet and sunny start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. I can hear a pigeon somewhere outside, breaking the silence, begging to be put in a pie. A gentle breeze wafts white blossoms along the ground from the trees that line the street and I have a nice hot mug of tea. There is another gutter to clean out today and the grass will certainly get cut despite protestations online by people who do not even visit our little town. We will compensate by adding seeds to the bird feeders and offering free councelling to worms and bugs who feel hortophobic or just want to glue their legs to nearby pebbles in protest. Art bit - another starter for ten. Hope your day is kinder to you than the previous one. I now have koffy to make and consume and then do some exercises. Drinking koffy about an hour before exercise is optimum according to some - they wouldn’t say that if they saw my so called efforts.

This ruin looks about ready to reach for the stars. Looking forward to this.

Good morning all from a clear, bright, sunny but far too cool for mid May start here in L.A. Swipey's first effort was 4.4 which pleased the populist crowd. I'll call this sensor Suella and send it away in a few days. A homemade sweet and sour pork went down well last evening. A bit of a faff and some new ingredients (will I ever learn?) but the sauce is a keeper. @dunelm thanks for sharing the new art and the poetical description of the start to your day. I'm with @gennepher on ladders being a no no and definitely on a house so gutters clearing is a job I'll willingly pay for. I missed a trick not buying a mulching lawnmower here or I would mow in May. A superdooper petrol mulching one sits idle here because it is too big/heavy now. Debatable if a battery one is more environmentally friendly. NHS IT systems were the subject of a radio discussion I heard. Nurses and doctors who phoned in said they used their phones and apps as often data couldn't be shared between and sometimes even within departments. @Annb good advice from @Krystyna23040 and @gennepher on cutting the move more regime. @Krystyna23040 the combined stress on the body is almost certainly responsible for those numbers. Have as good a day as possible.

7.3 this morning. Feeling a bit tired, headachey and achy still. I wonder if it is perhaps a combination of side effects from overdoing it plus the Covid booster on Friday.
I wanted to respond to this but couldn't think how to verbalise a reply.
However, I have been doing my morning painting (in digital pastels) while chilling out and relaxing, watching the birds, the magpie, and a trail of stray cats queuing to come and eat Midnight's breakfast in my bedroom he has left so they can eat in peace without the magpie mithering them outside. Midnight is on my lap also giving himself his morning thorough groom. And thinking about you @Krystyna23040

Then I remembered.

Now, I could say factor in more relaxing breaks into your working day, but that makes your day too long, so that is counterproductive.

As I said a moment ago, I remembered.

I do it all the time, so I don't think of it as advice to give someone.

You drive to your venues. This is advice someone gave me years ago, when I said I was shattered when arriving at my work place, and I would leap out of the car and unload. They told me to sit in my car and chill out a few moments. Then this person also said, once you have unloaded and before you set up your stall, put your feet up with a cuppa and take 5 minutes. So I am chilling out while all the other stall holders are rushing around to get set up in time, and making fun of me chilling out like I had all the time in the world. Then I calmly get up and work setting up the stall in record time but without trying. And I'm ready before any one else.

So, when you get to your destination and are parked, you don't get out of the car straight away. You sit there quietly for a few minutes. Possibly you could listen to music or your favourite track. Then when your body has wound down from the hectic road conditions (you do drive on busy A Roads) and you can feel yourself relaxing and chilling out, then get out of your car to unlock that hall or whatever. This will make a difference. It does to me. Where I park is where I am usually shopping, so I have a tendency for my relaxation in those few minutes is to people watch. I always carry a pen and blank postcards, and I might do some quick scribbles of people and how they stand etc.

You do the same when you arrive back home. That might seem strange, and Mr K might think you have lost it! But take those few minutes again, engine off of course, listen to a piece of music, a radio show, look at your garden. Just a few minutes, or put your hands up palming them over your eyes and enjoy that wee relaxation. Do this instead of leaping out of your car (in a rush as we all do) the moment you arrive at your destination, whether it is work or back home.

I think it is worth a try.

I hesitate to share these because we have a professional here but might these be useful bearing in mind some have found the UK prescribed routines difficult? Please don't see this as me saying do these - I'm not.
Yoga based chair exrecises
Full body chair based exercises 30 mins
Hopefully the demos are correct and the routines aren't harmful but I'm sure people will point that out and I'll remove the post. Hopefully they will help someone.

Leave them up Ian, they look useful. I haven't watched them in their entirety yet, as I need to finish off my painting and video, and I have to get on with my day. I just watched the beginning few minutes. Toronto one had good written advice at the beginning. I will watch them in my afternoon break/nap.

Thanks for the feedback. I too liked the advice at the start of the Canadian one. Hope the nap is everything you hope for. Keto cinnamon doughnut anyone? Hope you are sitting down @dunelm (£££s). Think of them as from an online Farmer's Market or seated stretching exercises for that heavy wallet :D

Fox & Badger & Cats - fur goes flying

The last few mornings Mr Heffalump (wood pigeon) and Mr Magpie have been having a standoff on the bird table. Yesterday the wood pigeon won. This morning the wood pigeon was victorious again and the magpie, backed away and flew off. But returned once the Magpie had gone...

In the past some years ago in a cemetery, I saw a magpie catch and kill a white dove, so I was a bit apprehensive that these two, or Mr Magpie rather, would violate the rules of this garden being safe for all birds and creatures. But the wood pigeon was assertive to the Magpie in a polite manner, just as I said yesterday to the receptionist, 'I am not moving.'

By the way, Mr Magpie feeds exclusively (for his babies) from my garden in the morning. By lunchtime there is not one scrap of food left, whether wet or dry cat food, or peanuts or whatever else. gennepher's diner is now closed until late afternoon/evening.

So, what does a Magpie do for easy pickings in the afternoon?
Easy peasy for a Magpie.

My neighbours all leave their small top windows open while they are out at work. These are all bungalows by the way.

Mr Magpie goes into the wide open top ones first, and comes out with pickings. Then he tries the closed ones. They are not closed as in locked, because the handle is upright, as in someone pulling the window too, but not pulling the handle down. Once, I observed the magpie opening one of these closed top windows. He teased and teased at it until it finally came enough ajar for him. I was sitting in my car, ready to go out. And magpie went in. I left then because the police helicopter was hovering overhead observing me sitting in my car. I am still in my driveway. I drove off, but the police helicopter followed me a mile or so down country lanes. I had then stopped the car at a church where the lady vicar ran a shop and post office. What's with the noise outside she asked? The helicopter was so low, hovering over the church. I explained the above. Right, she said, grabbing my arm, linking arms, I hate police, she said.

The next 10 minutes were hilarious. She locked the church hall as we came out. Linked arms again. Her hand gestures and language at the helicopter were not befitting of a lady vicar. And then we walked round the church and church hall 3 times widdershins. And then we went back into the church hall where I drew my money out, posted a letter, and bought some cheese.

I left, the police helicopter still hovering, but then it suddenly veered and flew off. That woman vicar really did not like police.

And yes I did warn my neighbours about leaving their top windows open, and the magpie, but they still left them open all day when they were out, and still do.

So, that is your funny story for today...

Creative is my Holly. It is absolutely full of flowers. But I never get any sprigs of Holly with berries on for Xmas because the birds eat them all...
I have done this in iPatel, and then finished off in Procreate for the finer stamens in one of the flowers.

Turning all my devices off now. Sun is out. Garden calls...loudly...

Have your best kind of day...

Enjoy the garden's siren call. Thanks for sharing the Holly, video and story.

Very useful looking videos Ian - just flicked through them but will get back to them and follow along as far as I can. They are similar to the ones Kirsty uses here so I will have a (limited) gor at them.

Great story. Great picture as well. We have one holly bush in the garden but it never flowers and really doesn't thrive. It has survived there for the last 30 years and never done anything. Wrong climate, wrong soil, I guess.

@Annb please don't try those exercises to be friendly. I would hate to think of you trying them and feeling pain or aggravating existing problems. We had plenty of holly bushes in our previous garden. One was used as a boundary marker which was useful as a guide for how close to plough and sow.

No - I will try those exercises, some of them anyway, but if they hurt, I shall desist. Don't worry.

Lovely holly and thanks for the funny vicars wife story. “More tea vicar?”

Just eat the hole - nut free. Think of the cost as helping a disrupter gain traction in the market. In the medium term it is win, win. They grow the business, pay their taxes, the economy grows and you pay less tax. A keto dividend. Claim a rebate on your tax, wear a uniform/PPE/business expenses entertaining your MP on a fact finding tour - anti-obesity/T2 research. Simples.

DIL came in on her way home from work at a nearby primary school bearing a bag of flour, a bag of caster sugar and a pack of butter. There had been a discussion in the classroom staff room about which manufacturer made the best shortbread and DIL said, "Until you've eaten my MIL's shortbread, you haven't tasted shortbread." So, of course, they wanted to taste it. Hence the ingredients. That's my job for tomorrow. There's the best part of a lemon drizzle cake left from today's visitors so that will have to go down to their house as well. Maybe she'll take that to school as well. Or maybe it will be kept for the family.

Edit: wrong room
