What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

The leaves are used to sweeten rhubarb. I also eat the seeds @dunelm
Here one link

Edit : Just one thing, and I am sure you know all about this...don't pick what you think is sweet Cicely from the hedgerow, because so many flowers are similar.
I got mine initially in a seed packet from a herb place.
It self seeds easily....
Thank you @gennepher. I don’t pick much from hedgerows nowadays as I think that a lot of them are a bit polluted by passing traffic.

Good morning everyone on a bright and sunny start here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.2 this morning. Didn’t post yesterday - the day just took over and on and on and on. Is it fun running (staggering) in the rain with a three year old - of course it is. Hood up, welly boots on. Mrs Miggins managed to pick up a bolt in one of the tyres on her car. Not a disaster - safely got it plugged. £30 - the fortune I could have made plugging motorcycle tyres for people. Art bit - so far, so good. Have a day of marvel (other beverages available). I shall choose koffy.

A big thumbs up for letting that inner child out to play.
A hug for the bolt & fix ...but no harm done to anyone TG.

Only ever plugged one motorcycle (scooter ) tyre.

Wondered after why I was so worried about doing it, once I got over trying to do it gently...lol .

If you're living life right, every day's a school day, imho.

Have a good un.

Ruin's looking good. Not much shelter from the rain or sun, but hey, we're all getting past our best.

Fox & Badger & Cats - a busy night - Midnight watches

Miss Fluffy, the baby sparrow I saw for the first time yesterday, made a heck of a racket when back in the nest yesterday. She didn't stop cheeping. Then I realised there was a second cheep, slightly out of synchronisation with the main cheep, every so often, then the cheeps synchronised again (the wonders of a cochlear implant - I'm not so good with people voices, but I can identify how many birds are in a nest demanding food!). So, Miss Fluffy must have a sibling. This morning Miss Fluffy is out and about and demanding food off her parents, who are both enjoying their new found freedom and chasing each other...

Creative is a digital painting of Sweet Cicely in my garden, you can sweeten rhubarb with that...

Time for a cuppa, a nap, then start the day.

I've heard of Sweet Cicely but never seen it. Very pretty plant and smashing creative. Wonder if it will grow this far north.

19.05
8.25am FBG 5.4 perfect
We usually have our French lesson on Friday but I am not sure if we will be getting one today because the other couple we share the teacher with have visitors. Teacher may not want to do lesson with class of two.
20.05
8.35am FBG 6.3 late dinner with rice so expected higher this morning. Need coffee so not waiting for it to go down.
Lesson for two was great.
Lots more earth moving to the greenhouse and various containers around the garden. Had nearly finished when some friends turned up, with their visitors. Introductions and invitations etc.
I had decided to make stuffed tomatoes, the stuffing to be chopped hard boiled egg, onions and rice. ( one of the dishes the ukranians cooked used this stuffing and i really enjoyed it. Was trying to find a way for MrSlim to like it too. ) The rice had been fridged all day so should not have been disastrous for BG. If i could be restrained. But by the time everything was cooked it was 9pm. I nowlnow if cooking stuffed tomatoes they need to be ripe enough and the filling needs to be hot. The excess stuffing is calling to me from the fridge, even now. More coffee and i am out
of here. Still lots to do in the greenhouse and garden. But am hoping to have most of the really heavy work finished today.
Must try that stuffing - it sounds great.

Bed last night spot on midnight with BG of 7.5. Woke up again at 1.30 am and had to get up (hips, shoulders, knees and hands [knees and hands], like the children's song). BG 6.5. Painkillers and back to sleep in the big kitchen chair. FBG (I suppose) at 5.30 was 10.9. Now 11.4. Should probably think about insulin and breakfast and see if I can bring it down a bit.

Neil's very messy project over the last few days has turned out to be a very beautifully finished stand for various, to me unidentifiable, electrical things - switches and dials. No idea what it is or what it might do, but he seems pleased with it. Wish I was clever. I could say that at least I can cook, but he's good at that too, even though he can't eat many things - both my boys are great and inventive cooks.

Seems a perfect post to match up this song to....enjoy the day.

Thanks for that. Must remember that song - new to me :D Hug for the overheard specialist notes and stumble with beers but winner for bouncebackability. @dunelm and @gennepher thanks for sharing the art and creative. As with @Annb's gift for baking and enjoying the joy other's feel and @SlimLizzy (and Mr Slim) for sharing their home and love with those in peril, thanks be to you all for using God's blessings as he intended. @mickeyg01 welcome.

It might @Annb
Found throughout Britain and Ireland, Sweet Cicely is most common in parts of northern England and Scotland. Although found on roadside verges and woodland edges, this plant is particularly common on the banks of rivers and streams.

Must try that stuffing - it sounds great.
Finely chop onions and fry gently in olive oil and butter. Add vegetable stock plus any herbs you fancy with the rice. Simmer. When rice is cooked chill, preferably overnight to maximise resistant starch. Add chopped hardboiled egg when ready to use. I found that it is slow to warm through so might be an idea to microwave if cooking time is short.
Edited to add : I used pudding rice.
Enjoy.

Definitely a solid structure @dunelm
Hope you enjoyed that coffee...

Morning all from what promises to be a sunny, nearly mild, day here in L.A.. Mild starts around 25C for me. 5.7 from Swipey here. No point delving too deeply into why as every day is, like us, an N=1 entity/event. Health metrics normal, stress management and sleep scores normal. Filler in a buffalo burger would be a person of interest in the investigation. While in Huntingdon last week we.went to acquire buffalo steak (something else I miss from "home".) JKP likes the burgers. No steak but we left our contact number. I would have preferred kangaroo, ostrich or crocodile steak to burgers but kept my card in my pocket - wrongly I think as it transpired.. Granddaughter has a party at a Leisure Centre in the Real Fens ™ today - located in Camel Road. Have a good day folks - no socks time is here again hopefully not for one week only

There is a restaurant in Nairobi called The Carnivore where you can dine on all manner of tasty tit bits. All organic as well. Bit touristy but it had to be done.

Good morning everyone on what just might be another sunny sizzler here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.4 at the point of stabbing today - not bad after a sriracha marinade. Packing today. Should take up at least 15 minutes. We are taking a trip to The Gower Peninsular tomorrow, six nights away. Hope the weather is kind but we shall take our oilskins and sou‘westers. Art bit - detailing finished so some colouring in to do during today. Hope your Sunday is a good one. I have already had my koffy.

Sounds good. The buffalo and crocodile are their own. Popular place for families to visit with all the animals - especially when Andy is in with the crocs. The family who own and run the business are long standing in the village and the butchery compares to any we have seen in England so far. We aim to take The Little Guy © there this summer. Thanks for sharing the wonderful art and enjoy the Gower. We - 20+ of us - will be in the Llyn Peninsular region next week. Not an event I eagerly anticipate but JKP and MIL have deep connections and sometimes one has to walk the walk so to speak.

Your post bought back memories of a visit to daughter and family when they were in Australia. Eating crocodile while gazing over Sydney Harbour and eating kangaroo while watching the kangaroos in the Blue Mountains.

When we go away MrKs packing takes 15 minutes but mine takes about 3 hours!

Still trying...

Midnight on a Mission - poor Fox!
The Fox knows Midnight is going to strike, but keeps trying...
Fox tries friendly eye blink after first strike - it didn't work...
Then that tail! What is Midnight dreaming of?

Creative is my imaginative painting in Procreate of pear blossom. My pear tree is absolutely full of pear blossoms this year, but doesn't usually produce many actual pears...

Yesterday, nearly disaster in my back garden.
I was sitting on my bed, working, by the open door into my back garden.
The baby sparrow, Miss Fluffy, and her brother were playing noisily on the willow branches, when suddenly consternation. Every bird alarm call was going.
I looked up just in time to see a pair of magpies, swooping in on the two baby sparrows. I had no time to act, so I just roared my best savage beast impression.
The two magpies veered away, and it gave me just time to get out in the garden before they came swooping back in again.
The parents both have got two baby sparrows back into the nest, but that wasn't safety, not with these two determined magpies. One magpie was into the honeysuckle, where the nest is. I used one of my crutches to deter/clout the magpie.
For about half an hour these two magpies swooped into my garden to get to that sparrow nest, by any strategy possible, from high, from low, sweeping around and attacking from different directions. I am uttering my best beast battle cries, and using my crutches. These two magpies are NOT getting my baby sparrows for a snack.
Finally they left.
I had no idea if the two baby sparrows were okay. Mum and Dad sparrow were okay. About a couple of hours later I heard the baby sparrow, Miss Fluffy loudly cheeping, but not her brother. It was another hour later before I heard him. Then all the usual small birds were all out round the feeders, playing on the branches of the willow. They were all present and correct.

So, I had made the assumption it was my usual Mr Magpie and his mate that caused all this consternation and I am thinking bad thoughts about him all night.

BUT

This morning, the two baby sparrows are happily cheeping and playing, and all the other small birds are joyful in the morning sunshine, and in swoops my Mr Magpie. All the small birds are still happily singing, feeding, and playing, no alarm calls. Mr Magpie is on the ground picking up the spilled cat biscuits from the swing. And he flies off, then comes back for more cat biscuits. And all the small birds are still happily cheeping and playing and feeding. There is no alarm from the small birds. So, I think I have to make the assumption that it was not my Mr Magpie yesterday afternoon.

I was all ready to go out and defend my small birds again and utter my beast war cries at 7am on a Sunday morning (although my throat is still sore from yesterday). But there was no need.

As a defence measure in case the savage murdering intentioned magpies come back, I have a dozen 3metre/10foot tall very thick bamboo canes I cut for a project some days ago. They still have the drying out leaves on them which make a heck of a rustle when shaken. I have placed these round the garden and the sparrow nest, to use against the magpies.

I am on the alert for every big bird shadow now...

The last time I walloped a magpie was 2017/18. How do I remember? I had just bought my spanking new 2017 iPad Pro. I was on my swing on a nice spring day. Suddenly a magpie swooped into the bushes where a blackbird's nest of babies was. I charged into the bushes. The magpie wouldn't leave the nest. He had already tasted blood. I massively walloped him with my new iPad Pro (I didn't give it a moment's thought about my iPad being nearly a £1,000). He left, still flying. Only one baby blackbird, a female, survived that day. And the parents took the greatest of care of that baby bird. I still remember. No magpies ever came back in my garden for years. And my expensive iPad still worked. I thought 'oh s***' when I realised what I had done with it.

My Skype call has been cancelled. Daughter is playing in a Roller Derby match.

I now have an extra hour for my day....
Stuff to do.
One more cuppa from my flask before I move...

Have your best day!

I don't think these two magpies intent on murder will be back. I gave them something to remember yesterday. There will be easier pickings somewhere else...

7.1 this morning. Lovely to relax and catch up with the posts while drinking coffee.

Off to wander around Gooderstone Water Gardens in the sunshine. Then, of course, sausage roll for Mr K.
Enjoy the walk and sausage roll. That memory from Australia sounds wonderful so hopefully that was a nice memory for you.

I've no idea how long it takes the Packing Fairy to do mine.

Enjoy your break @dunelm
I lived in Swansea for a time when I was married. I loved the beaches there, best ones nearly inaccessible...
Wouldn't be able to get to them now.
Great solid sketch...
