What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

In the 1980's I bought the council house I was living in on the right to by scheme a few years later it was found to have concrete cancer left me with an unsellable house worth thousands of pounds less than what I had paid for it out come financial ruin that took years to get over.
That is really sad for you @JohnEGreen and caused much distress.

Look at the money that could have been saved by not painting the Forth Railway bridge and letting it rust!

Some more modern suspension bridges have problems with corrosion in their spun cables.
At transmitters the stayed masts had their stays greased with heavy grease to prevent ingress of moisture on a regular basis.

Morning all from L.A. where it will be another warm sunny day. Are we Americanised sufficiently to see today, Labor Day, as the end of summer or do we wait for Michaelmas Day (Sept 29th) ? I try for the shorts and no socks vibe until at least the latter. Two birthdays in the family today, granddaughter in Southampton and son's partner 600 yards away. A very petite granddaughter should be starting school in Cambs today. The preschool she attended was on the same premises so no major shock. My own first day at school was a mixture of emotions. My grandmother was the teacher so all good until story time - why can't I sit on your lap? :banghead: As for school buildings, I attended several days of meetings - usually in nice hotels - devoted to Building Schools for the Future. Sent away to draw up plans. The coalition government cancelled that although some lucky areas did get rebuilt schools with state of the art tech. There's a scandal developing according to the attached. Meanwhile have a great day y'all - TikTok yourself living the dream.

Was Rishi's refusal recent or when he was Chancellor?

BG at 2 am (Libre woke me with a "low reading" alarm) 3.8. Had a cough sweet which happened to be reachable from bed.
BG at 3 am 8.1. Got up then and came through to the kitchen for a cup of tea, painkillers and a snooze in the big chair, but watched "Animal Cops" for a couple of hours before actually falling asleep.
BG at 7.35 was 7.4 which is pretty well where it has stayed since.
Breakfast soon which will be high in calories but zero carbs so it should stay fairly stable.
"Move More" class at 10.30 so I'll probably be pretty sore for 2 or 3 days after that.
Chilly and overcast here (big jumper morning).

Good Morening all from Tilehurst Towers, yep tight on time again.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.9

Lots to do therefore must wish you all well, hope you stay safe and if you are working yourselves up to a state righteous indignation over what’s in the media don’t slash your wrists, slash the media from your life.

Actuaries have calculated that there is exponentially more danger to life if unsafe buildings collapse on my grandchildren than there is from the mass media, the woke or the blob. Call me risk averse but I just prefer them and all other people's loved ones not to be injured or worse while at school/in hospital so prefer to see the risk mitigated. Seems like a realistic hope.

We can, and must, hope. Sometimes it seems forlorn though. But this particular hope really needs to be fulfilled.

Not sure how to read your post.
1. Are you threatening the people that made that short term money saving decision?
2. As above, but only threatening if your grandchildren are injured?
3. Me, me’s and myself would never call you risk adverse, anybody who played cricket took horrendous risks.
4. Shoddily designed and constructed buildings are unfortunately a one hit tragedy think along the lines of the Grenfell disaster, but the insidious constant negativity of the media is far more dangerous in the long term to the mental health of nation.
5. Woke is a joke and on Tuesdays you may call me Loretta, but only on Tuesdays.
6. Nothing will change unfortunately, but their is nothing wrong with having hope.

Now this next bit is really contentious people that studied literature and other such non scientific subjects should never ever make technical decisions, but listen carefully to the advice they are given from the technologists. If the said people say this material is only good for x number of years after that it should be replaced, replace it or choose another material. You only have to look to the civil aviation industry to see this in practice.
Actuaries are dressed up statisticians who are dressed up mathematicians.
Take care all.

I'm saying the media reporting that some - probably at least 5+% if we have 20k and there are 1k+ they will admit to - schools with old and or dangerous materials are a danger isn't insidiously negative it is just a fact. Even if the media never mentioned that the danger is unacceptable and still real. Put simply, don't shoot or ignore the messenger. Nations don't have mental health people do and appalling leadership or lack thereof is more dangerous than some ill defined entity with which one doesn't agree. Just giving something a derogatory label doesn't alter the truth. Anyhow, Loretta -1 till tomorrow.

Late to post for me because went out this morning early to eat a breakfast in a new cafe opened up in England. Had good reviews. Well I am about to spoil that...
It ruined my morning, I needed indigestion stuff when I got back home...and I fell into a deep sleep.
It looked as good as the photos, but it had been pre cooked in old fat, and must have been heated up in the microwave. I prefer it when I can see kitchens...but it was all behind closed doors.
I couldn't even stick my fork in any of it, it was too hard...
I ate some of it to try, but had to use my fingers.

Won't be going there again.

Spoilt my morning.

And to get out of Wales this blooming 20mph thing where you don't know where it is going to be was a nightmare. My Sat Nav said the speeds of previous 20mph (outside schools) were now 30mph, and one stretch of road said it was 50 mph on my screen, and this must have also been on the screen of the Sat Nav of the huge wagon behind me because he was beeping me and was inches off my car's rear end. I ended up going a bit faster to get away from him, but he still beeped me and stayed inches from the back of the car. I ended up speeding to try get away from him, but he still stayed on my tail beeping me. My car stands no chance against a big wagon who can total me and my car because of his stupidity. I couldn't see the number plate as he was too close (I could only see his radiator), so if he had been a foreign wagon he wouldn't know the speed shown on his Sat Nav was wrong. The majority of massive wagons round here have foreign number plates.

This is a total nightmare.

It it like someone at Speed Limit Control is flicking switches at their fancy. 'Hey, let's make this 20 mph for a bit instead of 30 mph and see what the traffic does'. Because when I came the same route, the other side of the normal 2 way road, it had gone back from 20 mph to the 30mph on my Sat Nav. And that 50 mph had returned back to 30 mph for the return journey.

Oh, I forgot, they don't flick switches to change things any more, they just have poorly designed faultily designed software which no one has a clue how to resolve. And us poor motorists have our eyes glued to the Sat Nav to keep a close watch on this erratically changing speed limit...instead of the road...

I am going into hibernation until at least a week after the 20 mph speed change in Wales. Just absolute essential car journeys...

Pa Badger - now watch me son, we have to jump to try and reach the cats biscuits.
Boy Badger - Dad, Badgers aren't built for jumping...

Last year there was just Pa Badger, I named him KissyKissy then because he had this obsession with giving Cat Midnight a nose kiss every time he saw him!

Midnight politely said NO initially, then Midnight's NO got a bit more vehement.

KissyKissy tried and tried and tried again. It appeared he wanted to jump on the swing like the cats! But never succeeded.

This was when I tied all the cloths to the back of the swing, because I would find all the swing cloths on the floor in the morning, and marked by KissyKissy...

My stray cats were here first, and the cat biscuits were only for them. Some visited only in the night. The cat biscuits are tucked at the back of the swing. There used to be more cats sleeping on the swing. And visiting...

I am going back to sleep. Temperature is 27C here

Far too hot for me...

Have a good day, and give the entrance to Wales a miss might be a good idea, because I read some places were going to have the side of the road still 30 mph for those people in England entering Wales so it wouldn't be too much a shock for those poor souls, but us who live in Wales will have the other side of the same 2 way road as 20 mph as we leave Wales.

Surely that would create a dissonance in our brains if we are driving on a two way road which has different speed limits either side of the road?

The trouble is that governments, commercial organisations, councils, trusts and so on should have their eyes on the ball but they only have their eyes on the bottom line. Even all those years ago when my husband was at sea and responsible for the maintenance of ships, owners were "not able" to afford paint to stop ships going rusty. Sailors could chip and scrape away at old paintwork to their officers' hearts content, but without paint, they would still go rusty. And these were vessels carrying umpteen personell, massively expensive cargoes and massively expensive to replace, in themselves. Of course, losses were covered by insurance so it didn't really matter to owners and their shareholders. As far as I am aware, the bottom line has always been the important one. I don't know how we change it so that safety is paramount because those collecting on the bottom line are never at risk.
