What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

What a pain, 20mph - must have obviously been well thought out by Mark the cheese boy and his team. Loving this piece of art. Smashingly vibrant.

I have always lived in a house on an A road.
My brother in law was knocked over by a bus going too fast!
There was a child killed locally going to school by an idiot with his foot down outside a local school!
There was over 1000 accidents in my area, in the last three years! And it's very common to see the police going to one!
The number of junctions with traffic lights are used to slow traffic down in built up areas.
It is highly amusing to see the idiots on our road in peak times, with the schools traffic and the tunnel traffic, lorries, buses and with the work going on locally, 20 mph is too fast.
Around the nearby stadium further up the road, is now a 20mph area, as well as the side streets, some are for access only now!
It's very similar to the dog situation, it's not the cars going too fast, it's the owners of the cars!
In a built up area, it is common sense to drive carefully, it is common sense to clamp down on those idiots!
If you had seen what I have outside my house, you would understand that it's a necessary logical conclusion.

In the country, we live on an unclassified country road that's often used as a rat run by people going to work and young women taking their kids to school in large farm vehicles and they go much too fast, then again there is no speed limit in our hamlet and some become unstuck and hit our bridge. I would be pleased to see the local town go to twenty because some drive too fast, I know what it's like, I remember being young.
More fuel will be used because I can't really get out of fourth in a 30 and below 20 it will be third in my Octavia.

Gone are the days in Lincoln when the youth use to run and catch the bus, jumping on to the open entrance double decker and holding onto the bar and being told off by the clippy!
D.

Both of us feeling very stressed and bit down this morning. Due to a misunderstanding of the rules it's possible that neither of us is legally allowed to drive here. That's definite for MrSlim and a possibility for me. That depends on whether "before 2021 " includes 2021. If not we are up the sewer without a paddle, or a boat!
Have heard stories about the French driving test being an absolute nightmare....with very long wait for appointments.

My car, an automatic, wavers between 2nd and 3rd when I am doing 17 to 20.

I remember in my youth running for and leaping on a moving bus, unless the clipper stood there with his arms across the whole open entrance preventing you....

I hope this gets sorted in both your favours @SlimLizzy

As far as I can tell, one of the reasons for 20MPH in Wales is to cut down pollution. I don’t think so. My very personal view is that the masses are punished for the sins of the few. People are on time or they are late, there is no in between. Same with speeding, littering, antisocial behaviour. We now have a shoplifting pandemic and all because the rules are skewed in favour of the protagonists.

I was once taken off my motorcycle by a driver coming over a hump back bridge. All because she turned round to scold the children in the back. I have ROSPA and IAM riding qualifications and have rode with Police observers and also ridden blood bikes. No matter your skills, patience, observation and road rules - you can’t account for fools.

Good morning everyone from a wet and blustery start here in the dark and dangerous north. Grandson in A&E Sunday due to knee injury playing football. So, he was with us all day yesterday and is slowly improving his manipulations (let’s not say skills yet) with a pair of crutches. So, took him down to the Ship Inn for lunch, which he thoroughly enjoyed - fish and chips looking out to sea through a mullioned bay window. There are plans afoot to narrow the width of our upper Victorian promenade to fit parking bays - the locals have torn off their sleeves and are bearing arms! Lamp post have already been moved inwards and I don’t think much promenading will be done after the job is completed - very sad. It’s not what the vast majority of our community wants but then I have always despaired with the quality of council leaders. Our funicular has recently been voted best seaside attraction in England in one of these votes that no one know about. So, lets destroy the prom leading up to it to make room for vehicle parking - the wheel turns! Art bit, not really, but here is a photo taken from along the pier last night . I hope your day is a pleasant one, I shall finish my koffy.

Sounds like another Brexit advantage everybody wanted and Boris negotiated. Do the French have a reputation for making an allowance for such a hangover?
D

Looks great. I would use cauliflower ‘rice’.
Not sure that would work. But good idea if cooking only for me. Have found I can eat a small portion of rice witjout a huge rise in BG. About 2tbs. Slightly more if it has resistant starches.

There was a well publisised campaign to make exchange of driving license unnecessary. Somehow we misinterpreted this as a fait accpmpli. So now we have exceeded the time limit allowed for exchange which makes everything more complicated. It's an administrative nightmare.

I went out in the car just now, only to the postbox, to post some postcards. Traffic is still speeding at 40ph down my previous 30mph hill but now 20mph - it is the rat run from the Expressway, and they think they are exempt...
The speed limit on Satnav still says 30mph.
And yet this area is now a 20mph, according to the government site,
The leaflet, that only came through the door this last Friday, has the instruction, if no speed limit signage then assume 20mph as soon as you see street lamps. But no info on how near together or far apart the street lamps had to be.

This has the unfortunate consequence of some vehicles coming into Wales on the main dual carriageway dropping to 20 mph. And to be fair, the street lamps are much closer together in that busy area. But, they might have only been following what their Satnavs said the speed limit was. My Satnav does not show the correct speed limit yet, and on one stretch of road in a built up area my Satnav shows 70mph , when it is patently 20 mph because of shops & houses & street lamps.

When is Wales going to get its act together? They tell us all/most 30 mph are now to be 20 mph, but they cannot get their speed limit software correct for people driving the road. Is Wales too broke to carry out all the necessary for this 20mph? Or is it my county which is broke (it is), and they cannot carry out everything needed to alter the signage and software info to our Satnavs for 20 mph?

There are several instances where I go straight from 20mph to a 70mph or a 50mph main busy dual carriageway and the approach road is so short it is not possible to get the speed up to join the busy traffic. This is not safe. The county local government site says they are applying for, but haven't applied yet, for an exemption for a few hundred metres of 30mph at these points.

Not applied for yet?

How bungled up is this changeover from 30mph to 20mph?

I told myself I was not going to write another post on this.

But I have. I apologise if you have heard too much about this.

The thought occurs to me, how easy it would be to bring a country to its knees if you got control of their Satnav software. I hope they have good security in place...

Badger tries very hard to get on the swing.
Like father, like son.
This is boy badger.
Why is there this fixation to get on the swing by Pa Badger and his son?

Creative. I went in the garage yesterday, and painted this...in acrylics & Chinese black ink for the tree.

Enjoy...

Now time for breakfast...I am hungry after writing this.

Take care.

Have a good day despite bureaucracy....difficult in this day and age.

I love this photo. Brilliant!
You have a good day @dunelm

The capsules are 750mg - not very big as these pills go. I'm going very easily on these since I am unsure of the potential effect.
Yes, very wise to go carefully. I take two 750mg with breakfast and the same with dinner so 3000mg in total. I definitely would not have started at this level if I had also been on insulin.

Another wonderful piece of art but a hug for the speed limit confusion. Here is a clip from the interweb, next season of holiday makers may be even more bewildered that locals - I can see a cash cow “kerching” happening round about Easter.

“Drivers have been warned not to rely on sat-navs for the speed limit on residential roads in Wales when it is reduced to 20mph from 30mph on Sunday.
Some GPS firms say map updates might not be immediate when Wales becomes the first UK nation to adopt 20mph (32km/h) in built-up areas.
Police in Wales have said enforcing the lower limit will be a "last resort" as drivers adjust to the change.
The RAC said motorists should follow road signs for the speed limit.
"Until sat-nav systems have been fully updated, they shouldn't rely on them to know what the speed limit is on any particular stretch of Welsh road," said Simon Williams, of the RAC.
"It's vitally important that drivers are fully aware of the arrival of the 20mph limit in Wales, and pay full attention to all road signage."
The law will change the speed limit on about 35% of Welsh roads where lamp-posts are no more than 200 yards (183m) apart.
Because it will be the new national speed limit, 20mph signs will no longer be needed on those roads - except when the limit changes.”

So, you are d____d if you do and d____d if you don't.

There are some locals who think if they stay at home this week it will be sorted out by next week...wishful thinking.

I am seeing my friend in England later this week. So strategy. I am not taking the routes where signage is not there or unclear. This leaves me one route, but it adds quite a few miles on my journey. This is going outwards, coming back is another ball game...

I can keep to the 20, but it's a different matter when there is a massive continental lorry with a foreign numberplate behind me, literally inches from my rear end (my car beeps when that happens and I have no idea what the car's computer thinks is going to happen), and he is flashing and beeping me because presumably his Satnav is saying 30mph, and I am doing 20mph in what he perceives to be a 30mph. And he perceives a stupid car driver who he can force to go faster. I did the first time, go faster, but I then suffer the consequences of going faster if caught on camera. But to stick to my guns and go at the legal 20mph could result in me and my car being totalled.

A low carb diet is supposed to improve tinnitus. I used to watch all sorts of videos on low carb when I first got into low carb years ago I remember seeing one on the subject.
D.
That is interesting. My tinnitus got much worse when I strayed into high carb territory last Christmas. Unfortunately it got stuck there - even when I went back to low carb.
