What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

A completely new alert came up n the car display today.
Most disconcerting.
A picture of a yacht on water, and the word "SAILING".
I look out of the car window and check I am still driving on a solid tarmac road. My eyes tell me I am.
Then the yacht disappears...
Then it comes back on....with the word SAILING again
The car felt it was driving differently....
This has never happened before.

It kept happening...it happened a lot today.

I am trying to make sense of it..

All I could describe it as, was that the car was coasting. It was happening (my car is an automatic) when I lifted my foot up, but not entirely off, the accelerator pedal.

I Google when I get back home.
Google tells me "It’s your car coasting in neutral to save fuel. A tap of the accelerator will wake the engine up again." And that it happens when your car is in eco mode (which mine is), and it is activated when the car goes over 40 mph and you lift your foot off the accelerator pedal. But I am not taking my foot entirely off the pedal unless I am going over to the brake function.

All I can think of is when the RAC man replaced the 12v battery, he somehow activated this SAILING function, because it didn't happen before this. Actually quite a few things on my car display changed with this 12v battery change.

Prior to this 12volt battery change, the engine was still engaged when I lifted my foot up the accelerator to not pressing down while driving.

The last time I coasted was in a manual car was well over half a century ago when I was a learner being taught to drive, the person who taught me to drive in 1966 told me do that when I was coming down a hill to save fuel, but I didn't think coasting was safe, you weren't in full control of a car, so I stopped doing it.

Now, over half a century later coasting is incorporated as SAILING on a Hyundai automatic car....

EDIT: further research tells me "This (sailing) mode is not dependent on being set and is an automatic function of the system." So, my car was never set right in the first place....it is apparently to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Sorry, too knackered to do a painting today, so a kaleidoscope of a wall hanging in my bedroom.

Going to sleep now...

You have a good night...

Interesting that the old battery was not even sufficient to enable all normal functions for your vehicle. Still, you can enjoy your car now to its full potential (hopefully). Lovely kaleidoscope.

Good national bin day Morening Ladies and Gentlemen, spare a thought for those poor unfortunates who don’t share national bin.

Blood sugars this morning were a 5.5 I was expecting a far higher number. Diabetes is perplexing at the best of times and at the worst of times.

A slight change of subject for me, me’s and myself. Films. Now I’m not a fan of films, but one of the most original scripts was in my option was the film Dogma, sorry, google if you must. Some interesting characters and interesting actors. One of the characters in the film is Muse which brings me back to this thread, my muse hasn’t woken up yet and the caffeine has yet to kick in.

Stay safe, stay warm and find a reason to smile, above all else it is a wonderful world, whoops song mode is kicking in, I must kneed koffy.

Morning all from a very cold black bin cum washing cum chicken casserole day here in L.A. Lab results are in and according to the guidance all seem to be in standard range. Fbg was a horrendous* 5.6 but I'm a tad sub-optimal atm. I await Prof Eisen's wise words on the morrow. Diabetic eye test yesterday because I said please keep me on the register - they are fun for few hrs afterwards. I slept for about an hour. @gennepher thanks so much for the last two kaleidoscopes and I hope there aren't many more surprises on that dashboard. @jjraak long time since I heard that song , thanks. I like Arthur's theme more - which is now an earworm. A potential window of opportunity has hoved into view so JKP, #3 son and myself will investigate further on Saturday. Y'all take care now stay warm and hydrated.
* for me and my purposes - thanks @alf_Josiah and see later post

Morning D team 2.

Much as I dislike surprise gifts, my boss treated me yesterday to lunch he'd brought in for me

Chicken pieces & chips from a rather upmarket chicken shop.

Yes, my will wavered & I guiltily ate the chicken (very nice) and then one begat two, Yadda Yadda and the chips (small portion as upmarket always suggests) were no more

I'll admit the food tasted great & I was touched by the gesture, an example of someone's simple 'thank you ' I seem to always struggle accepting.

So once home, a tad peckish but not willing to add to the carbs on the day, for me it was an unusual choice, a 4 egg omelette, some veggies & a few rashers of bacon, fried & drop into the omelette.

Satisfyingly tasty .

And presenting me with my best fbg since returning to testing of 8.2....whoop whoop.

Still the hated Eights, but I'm mixing with the shorties, so I'll take that as a win, thank you very much .

A day relaxing today, need to do a few bits ..might bother .might not.

In that kind of a mood.

Stay warm
Stay safe all .

Good morning everyone on a damp start to our International Bin Day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.5 this morning but I am feeding my gut biome and turning myself into a very efficient biodigester in order to save on heating bills. We used to build biodigesters in East Africa out of a couple of oil drums and connect to salvages petrol engines to drive Posho Mills. They are used to grind maize into Ungali flour. Visit to the Painless Pole today for a tooth tapping check up and to reenact that scene from the film Marathon Man - ouch! Art bit, an exercise of sunrise/sunset or even both - can’t decide which - these things just happen. Will be doing another two to compare and using the same two colours. Hope your day goes well - well, to the right of the bell curve mean at least. I have drunk my Kody so best do some exercises.

6.5 at 0415 today. That's about where I want to be but the price is to be hungry for much of the time.

Leg rebandaging day today but my appointment is 2 hours later than usual so there's not so much rushing around this morning. Also late having my shower because it's cold and I'm waiting for the radiators to warm up a bit more. Sky is fairly clear, so there's been no insulating cloud cover overnight.

Hot water with lemon doesn't seem to do much to brighten my morning so I am missing my cups of tea. However, needs must ...&tc. Breakfast will brighten things up a bit - once I've braved the chilly shower room.

Pleased for you that standard range cropped up and that the Roy Orbison event caused a chuckle. Enjoy that chicken casserole.

Good news on the best fbg. Surprise gifts? I read a sermon which changed my views on those. The point was it isn't a gift if it isn't a surprise totally unearned because that implies one earned/deserved it. Eating chips is a whole other matter :playful: Your day sounds so Jess Glynne

Morning fellow poster.
Perhaps you should have written horrendous for me 5.6

Their or there, you choose, are people who read this thread who would give their back and front teeth and their mothers for a reading like that. Nicely in the normal range.

Hope your day goes well.

AJ

Good to hear the report suggests no hidden surprises for you .
And the eye check (good idea ) seems likely to offer same, I hope.

Yes, Arthur..I remember that now.
Liked it too, sailing just involved a liaison with a young lady I was courting, ( dad a naval officer Portsmouth way)

And she enthused about sailing, surprised I hadn't tried it and was desperate to get me on the sea to share her love of it (never happened) but I still hold many fond memories of her & that time we had

Oops gotta go, Lauren's home, & she still gets jealou

;)

You know I struggle with words - now numbers I'm good at for example 3 mugs of tea early doors. Point taken though,

FANTASTIC You're in the range you want to be.

Hugs for the hardship being there is costing you

Hope as the inner pot lowers, maintaining the good scores become easier

Tho' I am very mindful what a masterclass in frustration it must be, for many like yourself having to skilfully balance such competing needs on a daily basis.

6.5 this morning which I am surprised at as my sleeping pattern is not that good at the moment. Struggled to get moving this morning and have a work out planned but am procrastinating! Day off and do I really want to move all my muscles this morning in a cold garage, don't want to but I will otherwise I will be beating myself up all day on why I didn't work out! Arggggggghhhhhhh :banghead:

Good that you are down into the 6’s.

Hope leg bandaging goes well and hug for missing your tea. As for hunger, although I accept I seem to have used low carb to manage T2, I'm of the opinion that as a means to satiate it has never and will never won't work - at least for me. There's a reason people lose so much weight on LC that's what it does best imho BUT there's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. One of the cracks is it leaves me feeling both hungry and so, so cold. I almost certainly need to be heavier than 72.6 kgs at 6 feet tall and still needing XL tops for shoulder width and back length. Right now I'm sticking with keto levels because there is evidence that keto may compliment immunotherapy - hence my reference to horrendous for me and my big picture fbg. We all have a unique personal jigsaw/set of interacting factors. Big hug for Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Here is the after. Have told him it needs insulation and a mini pot boiler as well, but he is more concerned that it needs windowsills. Admittedly it does leak a little under the windows, so he has a point.20240109_120913.jpg

Stunning transformation. He's definitely a keeper as I'm sure he knows you are.

I'm sure it did , @gennepher .
But good to hear, even if it's causing you a few annoying issues right know, that you car is back to it's proper specification standards once more

I say that, not to worry you , but I was thinking about it.
And if that poor choice of original battery & it's replacement by a better quality one, can cause all those 'features' to suddenly appear.

It's a worry if any of its safety features (as originally intended to save & preserve passengers in an accident ) might also have been affected while such cars are being driven on the original poor spec battery...?

How many others, driving hybrids, are also unsuspectingly having features, and particularly possibly safety features switching off due to charge or discharge issues with what is clearly a sub standard OE part ?
It doesn't bear thinking about that substandard parts in a new car, cause safety features, which the designers created for a reason, to switch off @jjraak
Specifications of parts in a car, or even buildings etc are all there for a reason. But as always there is someone who cuts corners to cut costs, whether to line their pockets, or even just to enable the thing being built in the first place....
