"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Busy day here - even got a load of washing dry on the line! I gave the grass a haircut, my garden is medium sized so it's quite a lot for me - luckily it hasn't got away from me this year so it wasn't too much to do all in one day. Also nearly finished clearing junk pots and things, and tomorrow is hedge and bamboo reckoning day (the part of the hedge I need to do is only a few years old, and is unoccupied by birds etc, it's getting cut to make it denser so birds can use it - pyracantha... wish me luck!!) The bamboo is where the house sparrows roost, so I can only cut a bit at a time back but they don't care as long as the bird food keeps coming.

Just about to have my tea:

Beef mince with buttery swede mash and a bit of cheese on top
Greek yogurt with cream (maybe - will leave it out if not hungry)
Glass of kefir

Saturday is early yoga so fasted until back again about 11.
Had ff greek with seeds and rhubarb before going to village coffee morning. Eating before helps me avoid the cakes.

Then out for lunch with son who we haven't seen since before holiday. We went to a local brewery who now do food. It was lovely, and already popular. Both men had burgers with lots of trimmings, I had a wonderful half roast chicken, with nothing else. Men drank beer, I had 2 fruit teas.

Tried getting into the garden in the afternoon but it kept clouding over and is so cold. Maybe tomorrow.

Just had a bit of cheese. Think that's me done for today. Have told myself no Alcohol for a month after holiday weight gain. Missing it today being the weekend.

This thread was started because of us all enjoying the off topic chat a bit too much on the main thread. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today-low-carb-forum.75781/page-3135
So the idea was to have mainly food in that one, and as much chat as we wished in this one.

Threads not specifically about diabetes are in the General Chat section of the forum, alongside the Forum Games and Jokes and Humour.
Posts in this section don't show up in Latest Posts because they generally aren't questions about diabetes. Some chat threads and forum games move very fast, and if they would show up in Latest Post, genuine questions would be completely drowned and hard to find.

Personally, I make a point of posting my food in the main thread because new members are more likely to find that one first, and it's very useful to see what a LC way of eating can look like.
I regularly post a link to the main thread in reply to people asking what they can eat, but it's just as easy to post a link to this thread in case people like more chat around food and all other aspects of life.
Sometimes I'm unsure which of these two busy threads I used to post a particular message, and also where I read about another forum user's food-related comments, but I suppose there's no perfect solution.

@Antje77 , the stainless steel kidney bowl!!
That took me back to the days in clinical settings where the contents of those bowls I often held for patients held contents that sometimes resembled scambled egg. There were other unmentionable things not suited to a foody thread.:hilarious:;). Impressed by your inventiveness, and how you made good use of the purloined article. Just hope it had been through the autoclave for decontamination first.

I have absolutely no idea if it has. If one wants to steal something from the hospital, you can't exactly ask someone to please decontaminate it before you take it home. :hilarious:
But it's been in use for over a year so I'm sure it has been washed often enough to be perfecly clean. :joyful:

I think it's so funny that everyone here is triggered by the bowl, but not by the duck. I wouldn't dare post about killing and eating our own duck on Facebook for fear of angry mobs wanting to burn my house down (likely the same people who buy the cheapest supermarket chicken and pork), but I knew you all are more sensible than that.
I am going to comment on the serving bowl in the parallel thread! Best place for it.
There is a real cool trick to get a quote box to a different thread: Use the reply button in the original thread and then cut and paste to the thread where you want it to appear. It even works as a link back to the quoted post!

Perhaps the theft of the bowl is the most shocking aspect.? I mean, poor clinic staff need to move in rather speedily, when a patient is about to expel unpleasant bodily fluids, or even excised body parts or the surgeon wants to chuck soiled swabs and used surgical instruments somewhere.

SAME HERE!!!

or even excised body parts
Neighbour took his excised body part with him, his finger lives in the windowsill in a small bottle of alcohol!
So perhaps it was the bowl used for his own finger. :hilarious:

Breaakfast was the last of the chicken pie filling with a low carb wrap (I was calling them tortillas but they are wheat, so they are actually wraps, but small ones). The wraps are not great tasting but they do make a stew feel more substantial and they are only 2 carbs per wrap.

There was one Pink Lady apple left, winking at me on the worktop. I gave in and had it around 1 pm.

If I have a 2nd meal, it will be the rest of the pork, onion and apple from yesterday. Might just have a few raspberries and cream instead - pork doesn't feel very appealing at the moment.

Gosh it's been hot today and must have lured everyone out for trips into the countryside as we had three accidents near us today! So many sirens zooming past and an air ambulance landing nearby - while we were in our garden all day fence painting and garden bench painting. I hope they are all okay and was glad we didn't need to head off anywhere as we couldn't have left home easily - we have another year of flood barriers work which is causing a very congested one way system which when it snarls up brings traffic to a standstill and there's no other way round.
I didn't have breakfast as wanted to get started but did add some salt to my mid morning coffee as was feeling a bit dizzy after a few hours out working in the heat. It worked a treat so at lunchtime I made sure I finished off the salted nuts - I know any excuse but they are finished now. Also for lunch had a few bits of cheese and LC seeded crackers followed by a few strawberries and hm yoghurt.
Decided mid morning that the planned roast dinner was not going to happen as too hot so roasted the chicken this morning and then served some cold with a salad for dinner. Just had low carb chocolate brownie and decaffeinated coffee.
@Antje77 the kidney dish clearly needs to be used to serve kidneys as it's the ideal shape! Loving the kidney dish stories.

I had a lazy day and meal again today (yesterday as well), and spent most of the past two days on the couch on the internet. Could be slightly alarming, but realistically it's more likely I'm just nervous for my appointment at the job agency tomorrow afternoon.
Healthy nerves for a possible major change in your life can cause remarkably similar symptoms as depression/anxiety, so for now I'm assuming it's simply healthy nerves.

Appointment at 3:30 tomorrow, and I won't torture myself with planning groceries or a meal for tomorrow, let's get this out of the way first.
If needed, I can survive another day on LC bread without problems, so why make life more difficult by telling myself I need to cook a proper meal?

Wishing you every success on Monday afternoon @Antje77

Good luck this afternoon, Antje. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Just in the process of attempting to make a quesadilla with 2 of the low carb wraps, solme cheese and some very thin slices of tomato. Not sure how it will turn out, but it should be OK.

2nd meal will be lamb chops and leeks.

Bg higher yesterday (lower basal dose, as told by nurse). Not too high, but a couple of points higher than recently. Too high today (9.8) but then, it was nearly 12 last night after a bit of yo-yoing in the evening. Taking less basal just means I have to take more bolus - preferred the other way round.

All good wishes! Will be thinking of you x

Same here.
Why did the nurse say you had to reduce your basal? Did you agree with her reasoning?
I thought, with the improvement I had made ( hardly any bolus needed for the last week), it was worth trying. She, and the GP she spoke to, were concerned that being so old, I might drop into a hypo before I realised it (rubbish; I would know). They think a constant level in the 5's with the occasional drop into the 3's is dangerous for someone of my age. The nurse will be phoning this afternoon to see how I got on over the weekend and I'll be telling her I'm putting the basal up again. Maybe compromise on 50 and see how that goes. It's the usual one-size-fits-all attitude. Because I'm almost 79, medics assume I am frail (and probably half daft as well) but I am far from it - at least as far as the frail goes. I wouldn't be working on ships, or with animals, any more but that's arthritis, not frailty.

Anyway, from tomorrow morning, it's back up at least to 50 for the Tresiba.

I'll be thinking of you at 3.30 today and hope the interview goes well. Hold your nerve. You know you're strong and up to the tasks on offer.
