My new mini pc arrived and is working. Unfortunately, the keyboard that I have to go with it is a wireless one and it was left in Neil's room with the batteries still in, years ago. Result is, of course, very corroded batteries and connections that need cleaning thoroughly. Meantime Neil has given me a different keyboard which is not wireless. The connector to the monitor doesn't seem to be working either although the pc does work with a different connector to my little TV. Unfortunately, the stand I had with my TV, which hadn't been used since about 2014, went to the dump about 3 weeks ago. Wouldn't you just know it? For now, I am still using my laptop while Neil rethinks the plan.
And that is precisely my argument (to my children) why nothing should ever be thrown away @Annb

And you have reminded me that I need to check some equipment where it is possible batteries have been left in....

We had a neighbour who had an old, huge, dilapidated shed, full of bits and pieces of tools, furniture and equipment. He knew that people laughed about his hoard but he told us: " When you stop using something, you should keep it for 7 years. Take it out, look at it and think about it for another 7 years. Then look at it again. If you haven't found a use for it by then, you can think about throwing it out. He was actually very good at fixing things with bits from his shed but when he died, his nephew had to clear out the whole lot with the old shed falling apart around him.

I don't quite follow old Donald's processes, but I just don't like throwing things away. Case in point - Neil has just bought a big, complicated food processor for making his soya milk. I don't need 2 of them and haven't the space for both of them. It makes sense to pass my old one on to someone else (it is still in good condition). I'm pretty sure that if I so, I will find the big, new, complicated one, too difficult to use and would regret not being able to fall back on my old one. But where am I to keep it?

1.Your burden is far far greater than mine
2.Me, me’s and myself have no power
3. Whatever gave you the idea I am allowed to think for myself?
1 perhaps! But the burden needs support.
2 According to farage garbage, we are all sheep.
3 didn't even consider it. I know my place!

Just finished my artwork, and devouring roast chicken.
I am quite pleased with myself.
And it was nice to be busy all day.

Sport everywhere you look.
Except the cricket, bad weather affecting England's chances of qualifying. Why could it rained v the oz?
Bad weather is not what I ordered?????

Got to tidy up now!
Laters you lot.

What a lovely rose @gennepher. Do you happen to know its name?

As a rule, single flowers and old-fashioned cottage-garden varieties are better for pollinators than cultivars with elaborate, double flowers. This rose has a few extra petals but not enough to bury its nectar chambers.

Nectar-rich flowers like dandelions, single roses and white dead-nettle with their lengthy flowering periods, are a particularly vital food source for bumblebees. I love to watch and listen as they buzz around the foxgloves too. As they enter, the note drops, then they back out and the note rises again.

EDIT this year only one apple on my 3 apple trees, no pears on pear trees, and no cherries on the cherry trees. No raspberries this year either...
There are raspberries, but two apples only on the new dessert Apple trees. No doubt there will be more than plenty on the inedible, unwanted cider apple trees. Cherries yes, but the tree is dropping them off before they are completely grown. Anyone know why this happens and my first strawberry plants are a slug magnet. Blackcurrants however are ripening nicely. Must check the redcurrants.

Yesterday MrSlim was persuaded to take me to a market in a town about an hours drive from here. We were checking whether this would be a suitable excursion for Mum next week. There are renovations to the church tower happening atm, scaffolding, cranes and building materials all over the car park, which of course is closed. After driving round for sone time we decided this would not work and tried a different town. Still not easy to park near to the market, but we can work around that. It is June, but I was still wearing a long sleeved tshirt, a lightweight fleece and a jacket. Having decided I would not need a scarf - it is halfway throughJune after all. the weather was dull but with a stiff breeze from the north felt really cold. One poor stallholder was shivering in her smart casual linen coat. The fish stalls were impressive, if pricey. Smoked salmon fillet @ €79.45 per kilo vegetables varied in price, the furst fresh haricicots vert first spotted @ €8 90 later €4.80then an astounding €12.50. Buyer beware. We walked around, bought a loaf of bread and headed back to the car, checking out a few restaurants on the way. Saturday excursion sorted. Weather permitting.
Need to find a nearby chateau to visit. We have several gardens in mind and Mum would enjoy them, but not if it is cold.
Sorted out a jigsaw to do together...
Arranged for daughter to send a specific dvd. Will sort through our collection for others she may enjoy. MrSlim has actually put the underfloor heating in the salon on, to test, we have never used it. Even with the heating on, I am concerned it won't be warm enough for Mum, who keeps her house close to 30°C.
However MrSlim is resolute - We will not be lighting the woodburner! We shall see.
Changing furniture around in preparation for the visit leaves one room looking bare. MrSlim is not best pleased to be required to renovarmte and paint a bedside cabinet immediately.
The Olympic bbq looms as well. Organised games are not really my thing. So much to do in just a few days. Would rather get some more off my list. MrSlim would say I m being boring.

Sorry, no, I have long lost the label @LivingLightly
But it has a lovely scent, and the bees love it.

I have loads of white dead nettle as well...

Good morning everyone on a beautiful quiet and sunny start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.2 this a.m. and have been sitting in the sunshine basking in the sun like a reptile on a warm rock but slurping tea. Brunch out yesterday - and then it rained. Not quite as wet as Eric Morecambe in that Singing In The Rain sketch. Art bit - tree. Hope you have a splendid day and as it’s furthers day, what will you be further away from? Time for some koffy.

5.7 this morning. Definitely not a day to venture out very far.

Brilliant sunshine one moment and torrential rain the next.
So a relax, read and drink coffee day. Am looking forward to the ribeye steak later.

Actually, this is exactly the day i need today.

We are each required to choose a country, make the appropriate flag (need not be large) and represent that country in the "Olympics" Not sure if people with the same flag make up a team? Anyway the winner is obliged to sing the relevant national anthem.
We are also instructed to bring boots, waterproofs and umbrellas so rain will not stop play.
Last year's games were tournaments in Molkki, boules and petanque. That was fun and playing in small teams got to know some new people.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.1

5.9 at 03.30 today.
Breakfast brought it up to 8.6 despite a good dose of insulin. It has started dropping now though and in back down to 7.4.

Overcast with occasional showers here with wind and low temperatures. Still in 3 layers - one a fleece.

One of our New Zealand hollies is the only thing with flowers on at the moment - the one battered rose has been blown away. NZ holly is very tough. No - I'm wrong. I forgot we do have a few foxgloves flowering in the shelter of the evergreen hedge. Can't remember the name of the plant we used - not privet, that doesn't do too well here. The one we used as the base of what is actually a mixed hedge has large, shiny, ovate leaves and grows very well here but the "flowers" are just strings of tiny seed pods/berries.

Might be euonymous but I'm not sure.
