What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Rapid destruction on that scale must be terrifying for Jasper's residents and so upsetting for all who know the park @Bcgirl. Let's hope the cooler conditions you're all ready experiencing will help fire crews turn things round.

I'm doing an oatmeal experiment this morning. I want to see how it affects me. I'm reading more and more about how good oatmeal is for blood sugars. Does that take effect after a two hour check? Throughout the day?

Edited to add, rose to 7.5, which was .5 . Maybe the short walk I had helped too.

Early days when I found out I had pre, I used to eat steel cut oats. It was time consuming to make it and it was delicious and good for metabolism. I used to love it. I used to make it with water and some milk too. I was also testing before and 2 hours after the meal. After collecting lots of data, I found out it was raising my BG too much. So I stopped! Omar
 
I am another one who cannot eat oatmeal with any degree of comfort. It gives me far too high a rise. Before I was diagnosed I used to love it and have it most mornings for breakfast and still miss it. If you can eat porridge with just a .5 rise I really envy you!

It must be heartbreaking for all who know the park @May Mic Let's hope the cooler conditions you're now experiencing will help reduce the risk of further forest fires. Given half a chance, nature has extraordinary powers of recovery.

Me too @Omar51 and @Bcgirl.

In 2003, I was diagnosed with full-blown Type 2 diabetes, with an HbA1c of 110 mmol/mol. This wonderful forum did not exist then, but by testing systematically and keeping a food diary, I realised that foods made with cereals like bread, pastry and porridge were my undoing.

Against advice from my GP's practice nurse, I cut out the oats. That left plenty of delicious foods. If you replace the carbs with ingredients that are predominantly protein and fats, you'll never feel hungry. Btw, my most recent HbA1c was mid 30s mmol/mol.

I had the same experience with oatmeal!
