"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Morning all. Well, yesterday didn't work out as planned! The carwash was unexpectedly closed even tho it says open 7 days a week and the restaurant unexpectedly doesn't serve omelettes!! So I had a breakfast minus toast and beans and sat in their garden enjoying my meal and the sun. The restaurant inside was full but I had the garden all to myself and it was quite peaceful and calming. Going out with my granddaughter and grandson today, maybe not as peaceful and calming but very enjoyable. My grandson is over for a few weeks from USA. He has to come back after 3 months for 3 months and a day then he can go back. But for him it will be worth it to get a work permit. Have a nice day all.

Had the last of the chicken and mushroom pie for breakfast. BG was already high and is hanging around the 8+ mark at present.

2nd meal will be the salmon salad that I prepped yesterday.

Opportunity coming up for some more baking so will be experimenting with some pineapple and coconut darioles. Might also try to do something with that very wet pineapple/mixed fruit cake - probably to give to Alistair for his lot.

Any thoughts on what to eat today?

I woke up last night being nauseous, thank heavens for the bucket next to my bed! Not that I liked going downstairs all shivery and cold to empty the bucket, but it's a lot better than the alternative,
Tried to go back to sleap but every time I almost fell asleep things repeated themselves until early morning, when I did catch some more hours of sleep. Until I woke up because of diarrhoea, again, made it to the toilet in time! :joyful:
This was repeated a few times as well, but at least not nauseous anymore, and things seem to have stopped now, so hopefully all better tomorrow.

I guess I'll have to eat something at some point today, but I still feel like a wrung out and fevery dishcloth, and nothing I can think of foodwise sounds appealing. :(

It's been 25 years since I last had something like this happening so I don't really have any experience with this.
What are your go to foods when feeling rubbish?
Preferably low carb, I still have to make do with fingerpricks instead of sensor, no use adding complicated foods to unknown effects of illness on my diabetes.

Nausea can be miserable and vomiting and diahorrea worse. One thing to remember is to keep hydrated - lots of fluids being lost. Some people take preparations of bicarb of soda, or soda water and find that it helps. Herbal teas and ginger tea can help as well. I always find that something salty helps (crisps/ham). To make sure you have some food, scrambled eggs are light on the stomach, as is white fish. Neil uses tinned mackerel but being oily I'm not sure that it would suit everyone although the salt in it might be helpful. Little and often is best so as not to over-tax your sensitive stomach. Nothing fibrous.

Hope you feel better soon Antje.

Thanks @Annb .
I just had a try with a small piece of cheese, looks like it goes well and it didn't taste too bad so I might repeat later.
I drank lots of tea today (earl grey, not herbal) and a little coffee so I guess I'm all good on the hydration front.
No more nausea or diarrhoea, just feeling knackered with a bit of a fever and too little sleep, so I expect to be able to get the MRI still tomorrow morning. :joyful:

Should todays food turn out to be some pieces of cheese now and again and nothing else, all fine, who cares.
If I suddenly find something in the fridge that looks appealing, fine as well.

I'm with @Annb on this @Antje77, plenty water and scrambled eggs with a bit toast. Plenty rest as well. S&D is horrid. Hope you feel sufficiently recovered for the MRI tomorrow.

Good luck for tomorrow @Antje77

I've had a bit of luck too. Surprise phone call on Saturday afternoon saying I can gave an eye op this Thursday ( have been waiting since February). Trouble is not sure I want it. Surgeon says 50/50 may help or may make it worse. It will get worse over time anyway.

Haven't had much time to consider it as have got family staying. A takeout curry Saturday caused stomach issues. Today did late brunch after we went cold water swimming...well I didn't, 2 of my guests did. Rest were spectators.

Then in afternoon stroll to local church Tower which was open followed by much blackberry picking. Supper was pastries for them and salads., with cheese. Did have small taste of trifle.

Bg has been all over the place, at least 1 huge non food related spike and averaging 7.5. Not like me all.

Thanks @Annb .

Sorry to hear you're poorly @Antje77. Anybody you know with similar symptoms?

You've sipped plenty of fluids and keeping hydrated is the most important goal.

I don't suppose solid food will seem particularly appealing, but when you feel ready to eat, I find white fish baked en papillote is the best possible food for an upset stomach.
It's easily digested and diabetic friendly.

Hope you are well enough for your MRI scan today Antje and that it all goes well. Hope too that it results in a successful treatment of that arm/shoulder.

Been up since 02.00 - couldn't sleep any longer because I was too uncomfortable with hips, hands and shoulders protesting. I've had some tea but will have some more soon and try to get ready for the day. It's a weigh-in day at the weight loss clinic (every 3 months now) and, sad to say, I am not much lighter than I was 3 months ago. Been up and down around the same point all the time (98-100 kg). A couple of days ago I weighed myself at 98.4 kg. Not good enough, but then I have had a few spells of total inactivity due to arthritic flare-ups and a couple when I had to take more carbs than I wanted to control dropping BGs.

Do you find that eating carbs just makes you more hungry for even more carbs? I do. Stupid, but there it is.

Still a bit wobbly and woozy, I expect two paracetamols will solve most of that shortly, no nausea or diarrhea anymore, so I'm about to be picked up to go to the hospital. :joyful:

They gave me 20 mg of oxazepam for anxiety, never had those, so if I'm talking funny stuff after the MRI you'll know the cause!
I feel like a 15 year old smoking their first joint and waiting for something to happen. :hilarious:

Oh yuck, stupid decision to make where it's impossible to know what's the best course until after.
Good luck!

Good luck today with your scan and pleased tummy symptoms on way out hope you're more back to full health soon.

Difficult 're the eye operation when you are not sure about outcome. Hope it all goes well. Can imagine that the stress of the sudden call would not have helped your bgs too.

Busy but enjoyable weekend looking after our granddog Cooper and lots and lots of forest walking. We also picked blackberries on our walks and bought some apples from a local farm for youngest son and daughter in law who wanted some to make a crumble. They collected Cooper and the fruit late yesterday. I'm loving this more temperate summer weather - so good for walking.
Foods over last few days broadly low carb although had a couple of the local apples we got from the forest farm - very small ones and also had a few very tasty organic carrots with some slow cooked beef yesterday.

Horrible decision to have to make. Is there any guidance about the potential outcome if you don't have the op? Especially when it's your eyes they are talking about, you need to know that. You need to be given enough information to make your own decisions.

I made a decision some years ago NOT to have surgery on my knee. The clinic couldn't say how successful it would be, they wanted to do the knee which hurt less than the other one, they didn't seem to be interested in my concerns about managing to move around when my arms and shoulders wouldn't allow me to use crutches, I knew a couple of people who had had the surgery without success. I did also know one person who had had the surgery and recommended it highly. I just felt that I shouldn't go for it and I usually do trust my instincts rather than careful workings out. The hospital simply lost interest in me as a result and I have never received any kind of treatment other than pain killers from my GP ever since. I knew they would but I still think I was right in my decision.

Morning all. @Annb, it's so hard to lose weight at our age, so don't beat yourself up. I've lost 10and a half pounds since February! I used to be able to go running every evening round the football field at the bottom of my garden. Now I can probably walk 200 yards max thro Arthritis. @ANTJE, hope everything has gone well and you feel better. I can't match you on your cold water swimming, (wish I could) so after my hot shower, I turn it to cold. I havent been doing it long but I do feel a benefit from it. I used to watch the Wim Hoff(?) programme, did you see it? He walked around in flip-flops and shorts in the snow! He taught a lot of celebrities how to cope with the cold and swim in icy cold water, underwater too. It was fascinating.

When I first consulted the hospital dietician about losing weight put on after starting insulin, she told me there is no way I could lose weight while taking insulin so I might as well not try. Nevertheless I tried and, managing to reduce insulin has allowed me to lose weight to some extent but there's still a long way to go. I will do it though, bit by bit. How much I lose depends on how much time I have left to do it though. I tried cold showers and cold baths back in the 60's because my new husband recommended it. He always used cold water to liven him up after a bath or shower. It didn't suit me, it wasn't just cold, it was extremely painful. Too much of a coward, me.

Just been doing some baking - darioles 6 banana ones and 6 coconut and pineapple ones. This afternoon, before I have to go out I want to try a new idea of spiced cauliflower and coconut rice with vegetables through it as a kind of jewelled rice. Then I want to finish it as I used to, steamed with potato frying in the bottom of the pan, but will use sweet potato. Not sure how it will work, but it should taste fine. The idea came to me out of the blue but I don't know if it is original or if it is already a recipe.

Hi all, hope everyone ok, especially those with medical appts and procedures going on.
Nice weekend away in North Norfolk. Lots of long walks and crab and prawns, yum. Did have a couple of hubby’s chips when he went to the chip shop, they smelt lovely but really tasted sweet, now I know, not bothered about having those again.
Just experimented and made a blackberry and apple crumble, a small ramekin for my portion with ground almond and butter topping. Apples picked from my sister’s tree at 11am and blackberries on this afternoon’s walk at 2pm. I made a blackberry one last week with erythritol but felt really funny afterwards so this one has no sugar or sweetener, just cinnamon, bit tangy but fine with some creme fraiche. Again though, could take it or leave it- who am I and what have I become :p
