Hi my Dr told me I dont need to test my glucose levels as I'm on metformin. Has anyone had the same advice?
Does the same doctor really need windscreen wipers for a clearer view. ...mmhhhWould the same doctor drive without a speedometer ?
While it’s not essential it helps a lot
Well said. The same applies for a lot of preventative health care. Just consider the beneficial effects of the anti-smoking campaign. Why not a similar campaign on junk food?I suspect part of the reason is that if they took the official view that T2s did need to test BG, then meters and strips would have to be provided on prescription. Given the numbers of T2s, that would be at a huge and new cost to the NHS.
You could of course argue (and I would) that spending money on BG management might reduce some of the much greater cost of dealing with avoidable secondary and tertiary diabetic complications usually involving hospital procedures, estimated to take up 35% of the total NHS budget by 2035 (it's currently around 20%).
There will be no official campaign largely because the manufacturers of junk food are major donors to all the political parties, and pay a lot of tax.Well said. Unless he's said that because he knows you are someone who would get over anxious or stressed doing so, than ignore him. Nhs just doesn't want to pay, but a monitor is about £10 and strios £10 for 50 so it's affordable to buy your own, if you wantHi my Dr told me I dont need to test my glucose levels as I'm on metformin. Just a couple of things to note which may help with testing, wash your hands, warm your hands, prick on the side of the finger (it’s less painful than pricking the finger tip), then put the tip of the test strip into the drop of blood as it sucks it up rather than dropping the blood onto the strip. Oh and check your test strips are in date and the pot hasn’t been open too long. Maybe you know all this, but just checking. Let us know how you get on.I was trying to take my bloods before he said this but had difficulty getting the monitor to work, but I think I'll have another go after seeing so many Type 2 people on here monitoring their glucose levels. Thanks![]()
