It's been a while and I'm not quite sure how to post photos now.
Oh well. Here goes.
If it works it's Kiki enjoying the last rays of the evening sun. At that time the sun had left the garden entirely, you can see by the shadows on the wall, but up on there it's still shining.

This was at about 8pm this evening. I was still out there weeding. Sounds bad, but we had been out most of the day and the weeds are flourishing. MrSlim had made dinner so afterwards I popped outside to water and continue the clearing.
The house had been empty over a year and we think the garden neglected before then so masses of weeds in the overgrown flower beds, knee high grass and a jungle of bamboo, brambles and reeds (?)plus weeds and tussock grass at the end. After three months am still only halfway down one side and maybe a third down the other. But it's progress.
We have some beautiful roses.
She does look a confident self-assured cat....
Your garden does sound lovely and full of potential. I'm assuming by the way you are talking it's nowhere near as big as the last one.
Roses should smell heavenly at this time of year, at least I hope they do...

Have no idea how many library books I read in a week when I was 11, but I stopped at the library on my way home from school, read until it closed maybe more than one book and then took three books home with me.
A less generous allowance than yours gennepher.
Usually I would return all three the next day and repeat the process. Sunday's were hell, I frequently ran out of books and had to watch tv with my siblings.
I think you were pretty obviously a speed reader @SlimLizzy
I would hate that running out of library books....or any books!

Four pounds to sit for 15 minutes with the cats! Money for old rope. Not even time for a cup of tea, that's if they serve food and drinks?
And I love your tale about the visit to the library fourteen books, that should keep you quiet for a day or two.
If the system is still the same you can return them at your local library.
They would provide unlimited tea, but no food or any other drink!!!!

Unfortunately, Liverpool is in another country. I live in Wales. The library is in Liverpool England and I have to return them to Liverpool library so you may as well go to the main library where you got them from....

That is a change. When I was doing care work I visited many libraries in different towns and counties, took out books and returned them wherever it was convenient.
Surely Liverpool is not at all convenient for you.

This garden is rectangular 561m2, a terrace , steps up to the grass and beds straight down either side, until the jungle at the end.
Previously we had nearly 6000m2, although not all of it was cultivated.
Some of the roses have fragrance, but not all.
This huge red rose is highly perfumed, delicious.
But all the flowers droop as they open. It's as if the stems are not strong enough to support their weight. As you can see I had to lift it up for the photo.

The buds are upright, but as they open they flop over. Such a shame.

No, it is not. But what happened is this...
I had to go to Liverpool to sort out some business that could not be sorted out anywhere else. The nearest parking space I found was outside the William Brown Street Liverpool libraries.
I went and did my business. Came back to the car on my mobility scooter. Then I went into the library. It is a massive massive library, one of the biggest you have ever seen. Some of it has been modernised., and some of it is all the original library as it was built in 1860. I used it all the time when I lived in Liverpool.

It now has a café on the ground floor. It now has computer rooms and you can stay in those computers all day if you need to, and it has much other stuff.

I thought it would be an idea to spend a whole day here. I have not tried that yet, but I got the library books out knowing I would have to return them sometime.. so my plan was a day out for me... I did arrange to be able to renew them online, but I hit a hurdle on Friday. They need returning before Tuesday.. and the library system was having problems with its website and I could not renew them on Friday. I have emailed the library. But I will have to go in Monday or Tuesday and do my original plan of spending a day there. It definitely is cooler in there than my bungalow.... so I will be finding all that out.

The art gallery is next door. And on the other side is the Liverpool museum. Each has a café., so it could be a pleasant full day... if I don't peg out before the end of the day...

Those roses are amazing....
I am sure with some of your tender loving care, you will be able to find out what they need feeding to strengthen the stems.
To me, the size of your garden is much more manageable now. I would've loved what you had before, but I could never have managed it.. @SlimLizzy

We didn't really manage it either, that's partly why we decided to move.
Apparently some varieties of rose, especially red roses, do droop.
Also I have never had roses before and Don't know anything about caring for the fussy things.

Smashing sketch with all that movement. Our resident pair of blackbirds follow us round the garden, especially if there is watering going on to soften the ground. Downside is that they then insist on digging up and throwing mulch about and sometimes uproot bulbs. What fun!
We have some very active blackbirds. They make surprisingly large holes in the grass hunting for ants.

I bought a special red rose to go by J's and my dog Meg's bench which is right outside the window where I am sitting now. It is one of those roses you talk about, and I have to put so many canes in it to keep it upright.

I have looked out of my window just now @SlimLizzy And it has the most beautiful massive red rose in full bloom, normally that would have fallen to the ground by now, but there are some young buddliah branches growing around it, And they are completely supporting that beautiful bloom... And it has a heavenly scent....

Not much wind today...
Trying to feed the cats this morning and the magpies and blackbirds and their babies swoop in...
Problem with those magpies is the massive poop they do on my herbal garden.... my next job is to go and find some camouflage netting and put that over the herbs and stuff so the magpies can't land on the archways, and do that anymore.... always some work to do....

Creative today is a kaleidoscope of the speedwell of yesterday....

Now, I am going to rescue my mint and apple mint...

Have a good day...

Six point two this morning.
Having a bar-bq this afternoon as the weather is reasonable.
Enjoy the bar-bq - have a meaty rib for me. @SlimLizzy good to see you here. Cup final day but far more downbeat these days. Sainsburys underneath Selhurst Park was our local supermarket for a while and I went to many Palace games. Played cricket with one of their players who went on to play for England (at football) and at least 1 lad from my first school was signed by them. First outing for #1 son in his carrier on my chest was there so I would love Palace to win.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.

The pain killer induced confusion continues at a pace, an hour ago I thought today was this coming Monday, what weekend you may well ask.

Now it’s nap time.

Good afternoon everyone on what has been a fairly cold and breezy day so far.
5.9 this a.m.
A walk into town for an 11am breakfast this morning and then down the steps to the prom. There is a little beck running up through a fairly overgrown valley so we opted for that. No other people on the narrow path running up. Lots of garlic still in bloom and a good amount of Russian Comfrey coming into flower. It used to be called ‘Old Knitbone” as the edible roots can be pounded up to make a pretty reasonable cast. My mother used to grow it for the goats who knew that the leaves sorted out stomach problems. Anyhow, about 6 miles by the time we walked home.
Art bit - ink on wet watercolour paper (7”x 5”).
Hope your day is a kind one.
