I like a cup of tea. I never drink juice or water, just tea and the odd coffee. I need to cut carbs drastically and the milk in my tea is stopping that. Is there any milk apart from soya ( which actually makes me sick) that is lower carbs than fresh cow's milk?

I don’t like tea, but drink a fair amount of coffee.
Almond milk is ok(ish) . Not sure what it would be like in tea, though.
Is there any way you can reduce the carbs elsewhere in your diet @fumanchu? I do drink peppermint tea, that doesn’t need milk.

to be fair when I looked on internet all milk contains carbs, only tea I drink is York shire but doesnt seem to bother me carbs wise re milk

So I need to try unsweetened almond milk and also I need to make one cup of tea last a long time... or keep topping it up without adding more milk. And I will try other teas - I love mint tea but take milk in it! Maybe liqurorice would be nice. At 76, it isn't going to be easy changing such a basic staple as my wee cup of tea

Koko dairy free alternative is very low carb. I drink it on it’s own at bedtime as it’s lower carb than dairy milk, plus I like coconut. I find the longlife version less flavourful, so may be another one for you to try?

I have a few cups of tea a day, and couldn't drink it black, that is until a relative sent me Irish tea, which is ok black, and I don't like with milk in. Maybe worth a try.

Not keen on coconut but I will try it anyway, you never know! Thanks!

Coming at this from another angle: If you need to cut carbs drasically, I'm assuming you're not usually eating very low carb. Have you calculated how many carbs you get from the milk in your tea?
At 4.5 grams of carbs per 100 ml, there are very little carbs in a splash of milk, so how much milk do you usually use each day?

Switching to a lower carb alternative may well mean a reduction of daily carb intake of less than 10 grams, at the cost of not enjoying your tea as much as you should.

We have switched entirely to using unsweetened almond milk. The one we get is Almond Breeze unsweetened which is 0.2 carbs per 100ml - dramatically less than cows milk. We use almond milk for lattes, and for hot chocolate using dark chocolate, and my husband uses it in his tea - I can't taste the almonds in it in drinks, and even drunk on its own I only get a very faint flavour. Cows milk is 4.7g/100ml for whole, 4.8g/100ml for semi-skimmed, and 5.0g/100ml for skimmed. I add cream to coffee otherwise, with double cream around 1.6g/per 100ml, and single cream 2.2g/100ml. You could also try testing your blood glucose before a cup of tea and then 2 hours later to see what effect it has - I found that milk really makes my BG go up a lot, particularly skimmed milk. It is possible that the tea with milk does not have a huge effect on you and changing other things may have a bigger effect on making your BG lower.

Alpro Almond milk un sweetened, does not curdle when put in coffee/tea or warmed with grated Lindt. I have trialled so many and this is the only one for me that worked. If I have too much tea with cows milk it will spike me.

Antje I take a lot of milk in my tea, and I drink a lot of tea! It's def not helping.. Apart from that I've got a very poor appetite and can manage happily on one meal a day. I do try to eat more (because people say your body clings on to every carb when you don't eat enough) but it's not easy when you aren't hungry. I just bought protein powder to try and help with that.

Thanks Lainie, I can relate to this and will give it a try.

Good idea, I shouldn't assume it's the milk but I do drink far too much of it - didnt realise how many carbs it has. I will swap to cream in coffee, instead of coffeemate and buy one carton of each kind of non-dairy milk during the week and try them all. This cannot go on or I'll look like a hippo!!!
