Parkrun

Perhaps TeamBG should do a parkrun at Oak Hill sometime so that you can share your experience around exercise with others - if you're up for that?

I'm not sure Andy-the way I read the article was that endurance running wasn't a 'Get out of jail free' card when it comes to burning off a junk food diet full of sugars and starches which you don't anymore so personally I wouldn't worry about it mate.:)

They sell cakes sometimes at my park run and the director once said they run so they can eat cake lol errr
 
Never done a "proper" park run, but I hope to start going to my local one soon.

I DID do my first 5K the other day though. 39:29..... I consider that quite good for my first time! Plenty room for improvement :)

Well done. That's faster than the 95% of the population that couldn't run 3 miles!

If you did a few parkruns you'd be able to smash minutes off that for sure. Is surprising how much faster you run in a "race".

I've got a "Race" in a few weeks. The Balmoral 5K. My target for that is 35 minutes because it's got a few hills :)

I'd also love to support you at another parkrun. Just need some notice so that I can clear it with Mrs F.

Jogged around Peterborough parkrun on Saturday - for a 34:40, 7 mins slower than my PB, but I'm trying to run entirely aerobically for the first 2 months back. I'm convinced that getting a good aerobic base is what I need before the marathon. I'll save chasing parkrun PBs until I'm finished.

Just 20 away from my 100 shirt now - although I'm Run Director at Oak Hill for the next couple of weeks.

35 is perfectly doable off a sub 40 in training.

The trick is to go out steady, and try to run each mile a bit quicker. It took me 60 odd parkruns to realise that I didn't need to blow it on the first lap.

Let me check, and I can get back to you with some possible dates, see what would work best for you, and perhaps make it a weekend that suits Andy12345 too.
Sounds like it might be fun to support hale710 with a run sometime after the Balmoral 5k too.

Well done for your run at the weekend. I am guessing the idea is to slow your pace enough not to get a BG rise at the end?

Either is fine.

24th of May is the Westminster mile - which I was going to run. But I haven't registered yet, so I'd be happy to run at Oak Hill.

I've was out for the first 10 weeks of this year with a MCL knee injury (which is still a bit achey). I was approaching PB form just after Christmas, but I injured my knee running too fast at Oak Hill wearing some stupid zero-drop racing flats that I had really worn before.

Coming back is tough. It feels like I lost most of my aerobic fitness in 10 weeks. I've been reading lots of books about Lydiard training, which is all about big mileage and low-intensity, for two months until you get an aerobic base. It suits me now because (i) I don't want to stress my knee (ii) I don't want the mental stress of trying to run fast every week (iii) everything other than a huge aerobic base is going to be irrelevant for the marathon.

I'm not normally worried about BG levels, but I managed to knock myself out with an exercise induced hypo during a 10k last year. If I'm going to do the marathon without carbs, I need to be very careful about knowing the difference between aerobic and anaerobic running. If I overcook it at the marathon I might end up flat on my face in the gutter again.

Aberdeen, I believe the run is held along the beach. I'd love some buddies to run with! Any diabetics are my friends :)
