Went for the bloods doing on Tuesday, had a call from the Doc today stating something in the FBC has come back abnormal to they want to repeat the test in 6 weeks. Now I am a VERY optimistic person and usually dont worry about such things......'Its nothing till they say its something', but as my vile betraying body seems intent on letting me down, I am a tad worried. All you guys 'n' gals on here seem pretty clued up about other stuff that may be related to diabetes, can you shed any light on the possibilities? Thanks in advance for any input :)

Could be underactive thyroid? Just been reading up on that and I have a large number of the symptoms. Think I might make an appointment with the GP and get some resolution to said problems (whether it IS connected or not) :wacky:

Keep us up to dat on what you find (unless you'd rather keep it personal of course)

I've just had some odd FBC results as well, but the [expletively] stupid nurse at the surgery was fixated on my HbA1C

I got a phone call. Which obviously worried me......they could have just written and said make another appointment for blood test. Especially as it is 6 weeks away. I asked which aspect of the test was abnormal and she just said 'Oh it'll be fine, i don't know, but dont worry'' I won't worry as such, i will spend a few days seeing what it could be, then turn up armed with some knowledge (doctors HATE that hehe) Got my full review next Thursday so I shall fight for the info then, cos I can guarantee I wont be able to see a Doc before then :meh:

My wife works in the haematology lab and they get samples from GPs every day. It is not unusual to retest and it is not unusual to wait. Phone calls are the usual way thesedays. It's cheaper than stamps and quicker for the admin. If it were something serious, they would ask you to come in immediately. Some results look abnormal but do settle down in a few weeks, that's why they wait. It could be anything, iron deficiency for example, and that might simply be due to you temporarily eating the wrong foods. Again, it's why they wait. If they had detected a malarial parasite in your blood cells, you'd be in the hospital by now and a new sample would be in the tropical diseases lab in Liverpool.

If you are dieting, you may well have a low haemaglobin count. It's very common. Or you may have a high white blood cell count because you are fighting off an infection, one so mild you don't even know you have one. Even a mild pollen allergy will trigger higher white cell counts. Have you been near any plants? But, that's another good reason to wait.

Don't worry, if it was ebola, there'd be helicopters and men in plastic suits outside your house.

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
You are also entitled to go into your Practice and ask for a copy of your blood results... Without seeing anybody....

Our receptionists will just print off ours if asked. I always get a print out of my tests and email my diabetic consultant the results, and also my relative who is a specialist in haemotology and organ transplants. I get their verdicts before speaking to my GP so I know what I'm talking about to the GP. My GP knows what I do and indeed encourages me to consult with my endo...(i just do this by email) and get a response back within 2 days..

Longterm it is the aim for Patients to be able to see their blood test results online if you are registerd with your Practice as an online Patient. It is a little while off yet though....some Gp's will be slower than others to initiate this....

As previous poster said, if it was serious they would re do immediately.
I too am having to wait 13 weeks for a retest of some of my results..(b12 and others) but as I have sought advice from my endo and relative. I'm not worried.

Do ask your receptionist for a copy of your results... There should not be a problem requesting these to be printed off for you.

Ah, thank you guys, feel reassured now. Wasn't panicking, just curious as to what else this silly body is up to! Have been dieting, Low carbing, although the carbs have crept up this week, I am blaming hormones for that. I also have quite bad hayfever at the minute because the rape seed is up. So all in all lots of 'trivial' things it could be. I need to see my GP asap on another matter so might just ask whilst I am there ;)

That's what I did, when my practice nurse turned out to be as useful as a chocolate teapot, asked her to print out my results.

Some of my values are below the lower limit, haematocrit, FBC, Haemoglobin I think, plus one or two others near the limit. Now I need to call for a phone consult with a doc to find out if that means anything. Or a trained nurse could have gone through the results in detail at the time:banghead:

Been for my first review and asked about the FBC. Apparently my red cells are low and my white are high. Could be resulting from low grade infection which I might not have even known about, but checking to make sure it ISN'T anything else. (which is what #Yorksman said lol) Now should i share my hba1c? In this thread or another? :)
