My GP recently told me I am no longer able to have a glucose meter or strips to test my blood sugar. Is anyone else having this difficulty. I am type two but now I am wondering how on earth am I supposed to test my blood sugar

We buy our own. But you can argue quoting NICE guidelines if you feel up to the battle.

I just got back from the doctors. Second opinion is "Cured" Took more blood to try to find out what is wrong with my hands and feet.
Off to let my hair down and have boiled chicken broccoli and Brussels sprouts.
A guarded 'Hurrah' from me. As I know you are not convinced. However, I guess you are clued up enough to remain vigilant, and although you are not in agreement with doc, at the very least you have achieved good control, weight loss etc, and the benefit of reducing chance of complications, so you deserve a pat on the back, and to treat yourself from time to time with some extra carbs.
Keep well.

Do they have a rubber stamp with "cured" on it for stamping your records? I do hope so. Well done on your excellent control :)

I am wondering if there is anyone here who has or knows of someone who has
A - lost a lot of weight without going lowish carb
B - gone low carb and not lost much weight.
And if so have they achieved normal HbA1c

Wish I new how to do a poll.

I went low carb for a couple of years or so and didn't lose weight until I calorie counted as well. My HbA1c was normal for that time but rose when I lapsed and started having more carbs.

Just to get this straight in my head. Was your HbA1c normal during the low carb no weight loss period?

At risk of boring you:
I lost 42kg Newcastle diet
Had normal HbA1c 2+ years
regained around 8kg slight rise in HbA1c but still below diabetes level
Another 4 weeks Newcastle diet lost 5kg
LCHF no weight lost.
HbA1c recently 41.
All above on 1 Metformin a day
Currently off Metformin 6 weeks, testing BG levels with no diabetic readings. Due next HbA1c 2 months time.
Struggling to find weight reduction plan to suit as still need to lose at least 30kg to be a 'healthy weight'.
