7.6 early this morning. Why my fasting BG are always higher than other tests during the day, even higher than the one taken 2 hours after lunch?

Was at our first diabetic clinic yesterday, my son was only diagnosed 8 weeks ago they said his results on diagnosis were 126 (dont know what % that is!) and then yesterday he was down to 63.............they were very pleased with this result considering.

126 equal 7.0 upper limit of acceptable level
63 equal 3.4 a little bit too low. Be careful with the low level.

Fasting test this morning 4.4. Never achieved this so far. it might be for low carb diet. Excellent!

Don't know what conversion you're using but:
126 mmol/mol equals 13.7% which is far too high
63 mmol/mol equals 7.9% which is still somewhat high

Thank you for converting. The diabetic Dr did say it was still a bit high, the aim is to get down to between 50 and 58, but they didn't expect him be as low as 63 after only 8 weeks.

126 is measured by mg/dL NOT by mmol/L (126mg/dL=7.0mmol/L; 63mg/dL=3.4mmol/L).

Conversion of Glucose Values from mg/dl to mmol/l
The measurement unit used for indicating the concentration of blood or plasma glucose can either have a weight dimension (mg/dl) or a molarity (mmol/l). In articles, prefer to use mmol/l. Below you find a calculator and a conversion table. The exact calculatation rule is:

mg/dl x 0.0555 = mmol/l
mmol/l
x 18.0182 = mg/dl
Note that this conversion rule refers only to glucose. Other substances such as cholesterol and triglycerides must be coverted by other factors as they have other molar masses. Look at the SI Unit Table and calculator for other substances than glucose. Calculate values for blood glucose in articles exact but indicate at most two decimal places. The approximate calculation rule for conversion of mg/dl in mmol/l and vice versa is:

mg/dl divided by 18 = mmol/l
mmol/l
times 18 = mg/dl

Hi Khanh Nam,

It looks like you are referring to blood glucose levels which can be quoted in either mg/dl or mmol/l and measured typically by using a blood glucose monitor - it gives a point in time measure so is useful to track fluctuations in BG levels, response to eating foods, especially carbohydrates, exercise, etc. Many diabetics self monitor with their own meters.

However this thread is referring to the HbAc1 test, which is an indirect test based on the accumulation of sugars on red blood cells and gives an indication of the average BG levels over the past 2-3 months. It cannot provide any information on how widely the BG fluctuates during this period.

It is reported as either mmol/mol or as a %.

From Diabetes.co.uk site : http://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html -->

"How does HbA1c differ from a blood glucose level?
HbA1c provides a longer-term trend, similar to an average, of how high your blood sugar levels have been over a period of time.

An HbA1c reading can be taken from blood from a finger but is often taken from a blood sample that is taken from your arm.

Blood glucose level is the concentration of glucose in your blood at a single point in time, i.e. the very moment of the test.

This is measured using a fasting plasma glucose test, which can be carried out using blood taken from a finger or can be taken from a blood sample from the arm.

However, fasting glucose tests provide an indication of your current glucose levels only, whereas the HbA1c test serves as an overall marker of what your average levels are over a period of 2-3 months.

HbA1c can be expressed as a percentage (DCCT unit) or as a value in mmol/mol (IFCC unit). Since 2009, mmol/mol has been the default unit to use in the UK.

Note that the HbA1c value, which is measured in mmol/mol, should not be confused with a blood glucose level which is measured in mmol/l. Use our HbA1c conversion tool to help with switching between the two measurement units. "

Hope this helps!

HbA1c is measured in mols per mol which can be given as a percentage, blood glucose levels are measured in weight per volume.
