What have you eaten today?

I do, but tonights were bought.

I don't really have a recipe. I just sort of chop my onion, make a batter up of gram flour with a smidge of Pataks mild curry paste, and fry in a dab of oil in a non-stick pan. I don't deep fry. Mine come out like flat drop scones, with crispy edges.

hold on, I will look for a batter recipe.

OK, so I looked. some recipes use eggs (I don't), and the ones that don't just use water.

I think it is more a case of playing, than being purist.

Its been a while, but typically I use a few tablesp of gram flour, water, the paste, beat/blend till smooth, then dump in the onion and stir. I like it with a lot more onion than batter...

Not sure if that helps at all.

Will try that. Thanks. I could eat one now. I'm so hungry today.

Do u make your own onion bajhias? I have a complicated recipe that neither of us really like but could do with a simple recipe, though I find small shop ones don't seem to do much damage to my levels.

I make onion bhaji's & vegetable pakora from scratch and find they don't have too much impact on my levels either

A simple onion bhaji recipe ....

Slice 1 large onion into a bowl, add a little spices if you fancy, such as cumin, coriander, chilli, garam masala, salt...
add about 2 tablespoons of gram flour (chickpea flour) and mix well until the onions are coated in the gram flour. Sprinkle a little cold water onto the mix, to bind and bring it together.. The batter should just coat the onions, if needed add a little more flour or water.
Take a spoonful of the onion batter mix and drop into hot oil to deep fry for a few minutes, till golden and crispy

Enjoy

Sounds nice. I think my recipe has too much gram flour in it and bicarbonate of of a which I think has a funny taste. ( it was given to me by an Asian friend so authentic)- sometimes it's fine but sometimes I can taste it.

I only add enough gram flour so it just coats the onions, I prefer more veg and less batter

Oh I also add fresh lemon juice to the batter, that makes them tangy and crispy

I use the same method to make cauliflower pakora yum

Today's my 1st day of trying to reduce the dreaded carbs, after all the encouraging comments from this site.... I just dived straight into it

Breakfast .... Homemade green smoothie ... Papaya, kale, spinach, chia seeds, flaxseeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, lemon, mint
Lunch.... Greek yogurt, mixed berries, pumpkin & sunflower seeds,
Dinner.... Green smoothie as above plus full fat cottage seeds, sunflower & pumpkin seeds, spinach

It feels like a healthier food day :smug::happy:

Nice one! You will start feeling the benefits soon.

B: second attempt at smoothie, blueberries, raspberries and almond milk. Was very tasty but I did feel quite hungry half way through the morning
L: an enormous bowl of home made leek and onion soup with ham hock. Still felt hungry though
D: three slices of ham with cream cheese, radishes and tomatoes. Greek yoghurt with raspberries - two helpings!

I plan to add some oats to my smoothie tomorrow which might stave off the hunger pangs.

That soup sounds gorgeous!

I wonder if your hunger was because the smoothie was mainly fruit...?
I know your first green smoothie wasn't great, but a bit of spinach or a half avocado would give more staying power. I've also used a few macadamia nuts.

Have you tried adding chia seeds to your smoothies? I find by adding 1 tablespoon of these little gems they keep me full for longer

I always always add veg like.... Kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, cucumber, courgette etc.... makes the smoothie very filling.

Today I'm making vichyssoise (spelling???). Soup I found online low carb style ...leeks and cauliflower instead of potatoes. Butter and cream.and stock But I will have it piping hot

Oh Alliebee ,Loving the sound of that ...today I am making Cream of brocolli with stilton .

Pavlosdog ...I have made berry smoothies before but added natural yogurt and some coconut oil ..nuts are also good to add .
Just a couple to add some crunch ...
I have never tried a green smoothie but will have a go any time soon.

Last night I was really hungry had frozen berries and double cream ..

Has anyone notuced if they go to bed slightly hungry ..the next morning the hunger is not present !
Btw I am not diabetic so don't have to worry about hypos but I just find it strange.Another thing on days when I need a fast food fix eg the outlet with a clown called Ronald,I order two cheese burgers throw away the buns and make a burger from the meat and cheese ...no fries ...does the job for me .

breakfast 2 x herta frankfurtas and 2 fat bombs
snack 2 x cheese string
lunch brocoli and stilton homemade soup, sugarfree jelly with a bit of tinned peach, homemade low carb rocky road
snack 1 lidl salami stick, 1 x hot choc
dinner......not sure yet might have smoked haddock with some butter mashed celeriac and some cheesy cauliflower and brocoli followed by a sugarfree jelly pot.
snack maybe some nuts, then about an hour before bed 2 x fat bombs.

Fat Bombs - i melt 200g butter, 200g peanut butter and 100g 72% lidl choc, then pour into silicone ice cube moulds and freeze. I usually get about 45 bombs. then pop into a bowl in the fridge to snack on.

Yes and since I raised the fat part of my diet I've lost all the 2 stone that I was overweight. By biggest problem is stopping the weight loss!

Omg!! That's amazing.... Well done :)

what proportion of fats to carbs did you have to lose the weight? Should I be even counting calories, fats and carbs?

Hi again @Rose28 You seem to be getting on well and seem a lot more postive and cheerful than you were the other night when you joined :D Have you noticed a difference in your bg readings yet? I meant to say the other night that you should test loads if you start low carbing and are on Glic to make sure you dont drop too low too quickly.

I never counted calories. I ate butter olive oil. Creamy dressings double cream and blueberries raspb blackcurrants strawbs. ..carbs around 30 g. Mainly from veggies. Protein. Lost it so quick I couldn't keep.up. its the carbs for me. Poison...I'm so happy. Never count a thing now. Steak and sauce and salad when out or fish n veggies with butter on...love this way of eating and all my blood tests show its good for me too

Should have added cheese n nuts. Grated cheese on salads. Mayo. Egg mayo. Prawn cocktail. Often eat a pot with salad for lunch. Fat is my new friend. And lipids better than they have ever been

Lol... Yes up until 2 days ago I was in a mental state of .... Confused.com :wacky::confused:

I've already seen a change in readings, this morning on waking it was 9.3 and 2 hours after breakfast 9.9. Strangely I wasn't hungry for lunch until 5 hours later!!! Reading then was 6.4
