why can't everyone get on........
this is a place for people to tell us who their all time fav's are musically
being a typical obsessive with my D makes my list have a similar theme -- LOL

my list is as follows to get this topic started -- favourite band / artist for each decade since pop charts have been going ( the 1950's)
so here goes

50's---- Elvis Presley
60's --- The Beatles
70's --- Queen
80's---- R.E.M.
90's----- NOFX
00's---- Death By Stereo
10's--- undecided yet as only 2015 but an early contender is Digital Summer

Intolerance, career politicians, reality TV and so-called celebrity culture, mobile phones in the quiet carriage.
Is this who you liked best at the time (sorry I don't know how old you are!) or who you like best from each decade now?

I do not have diabetes
There is only one William 'Smokey' Robinson!
For all the above decades!
Produced, wrote, recorded and involved on more than 4000 songs.
The poet of the late 20th century according to Bob Dylan.
No one comes close to his 'record'
In his eighties still touring, writing, recording!
The Tracks Of My Tears, my favourite!

it is a combination as i am not old enough to know anything about the 50's ( born 1958)
but from the 60's onwards it is a partly what i liked at the time and the ability to look back and choose between a number of bands i liked at the time.

generally speaking i love almost all music but thought this topic would show just how wide our tastes can be :)

80's = HipHop
90's = Acid House
00's = Jimi Hendrix/Pink Floyd
10's = Coldplay

not sure if the jimi hendrix was allowed but thats when i got into him and who could deny him anyway? lol

edit: thinking about it, they kinda cross over the decades so my list isn't very accurate.....must have been the acid

Far too varied to classify or especially tie a date or decade too but and in no particular order

The dammed
The stranglers
Motörhead
Deep purple
The Rolling Stones
The cure
The flaming lips
Etta james
Nina Simone
Joe bonemassa
Beth heart

And many many more

As an aside if you haven't already go to the opera even if only once brilliant

Well I was born in 1954, and my memory of who I liked best in the decades concerned at the time is probably

1950s too young
1960s Beach Boys
1970s King Crimson
1980s New Order
1990s Radiohead
2000s Goldfrapp
2010s Imogen Heap

From the perspective of the present, I would go for Billie Holliday in the 50s, The Doors in the 60s, not sure about the 80s but not New Order especially, too many to choose from.

But I prefer modern jazz anyway, so that list would be something like

1950s John Coltrane
1960s Miles Davis
1970s John McLaughlin
1980s Terje Rypdal
1990s John Scofield
2000s Dave Holland
2010s Phronesis

Born in 66
First band I ever got into in a big way in the seventies was The Moody Blues
Then got into Tubeway Army, Bowie then rock music and Neil Young
Eighties at uni would be The Waterboys and U2
Nineties REM
2000s British Sea Power and I like trains

Also like Cohen, Houndmouth and heaps of other stuff with a keen interest in really cheesy rubbish tunes according to my mates. Anyone for David Cassidy?
