Mods and Rockers

Very true Nosher.
The skins were into Ska music ... black music.
Most Ska bands of the time had black and white musicians in the band.

I have a ska CD my son put together for me and I love it, as its been a few years since my ska days. It all mingles together nicely doesn't , like black and white, it was cool

We had a club very similar but on four floors, bottom disco, ground, live group, members only floor, then serious gambling top floor mainly poker.
You definitely had to know the bouncers, unless you looked good in a skirt!;)

I remember watching the mods and rocker seaside riots on the news.
I'm 61 so just missed that side of life and instead arrived just in time to be a hippy.
I was 60 a couple of months ago and I was a rocker
I must have been an early starter. I remember doing a ton down the Chertsey Road in the pouring rain thinking that this was what life was all about. Madness but fun when you're an invincible teenager :D

This thread makes me want to dig out my Quadraphenia dvd .
Love to watch this - will dig it out .
Watch it this week too .

Northern souler and fan of the Mods .
I wasn't a mod then as was too young in age .
Love the northern soul music though and danced my heart out to it .

Fortunately I was bigger and meaner looking than the bouncers cos I would have looked dreadful in a skirt!

I never saw any racial tension amongst young people in the seventies and eighties.
Any tension was politically manufactured and motivated and the young folk all joined the Anti Nazi League and had even more mixed race parties and festivals.

Yeah my main late night hang out was a west Indian club in Moss Side called The New Reno Club... I couldn't remember the name for a moment there!
Dark low ceilinged basement thick with Maryjane aromas.
Upstairs was a different club which was called The Nile Club and casino.
Consisted of a very small bar and a room with huge round tables where some serious cash was gambled at cards.
Both places often suffered raids.
Great memories.

If you look at the really popular group, ub40, (wonder how they got their name?) they were a brummie group. Some great music.
Madness, they had their background from ska. Playing to the London mod scene.
We used to go the Top Rank in Liverpool, and we danced and mingled with everybody no matter what colour you were.

UB40, was an Unemployment benefits form - 40, some great music from UB40:D :singing:

I loved them. We called them loons :)

Edit, loons were the flares, not the hippies :p
Bangs - were the soulers wide legged pants .
If I remember correctly ?

The film 'Norther Soul' is on Sky movies soon. Music's good but films naff!
