    Hopeless annual diabetic review

I'll go for the OGTT as I don't really have any choice. If I had gone on Metformin as they wanted me to then I would probably be judged a success of their treatment regime. Despite relating occurences in the past year of waking blurred vision, and headaches with high BG, and irregular...

    Hopeless annual diabetic review

Yes the HbA1c is good but waking bloods of 13.5 is not by any measure 'normal' The checks and support has been there in previous years, this year it just evaporated with a change of staff. The diabetic check this year was about as good as someone with a reading age of about 5 could have managed.

    Hopeless annual diabetic review

Firstly the headline figure HbA1c of 37mmol/mol or 6.2mmol/L / 5.5% in old units (Previous years 2012 back to 2009 have been 40 42 42 37) I 'failed' a self administered OGTT just three weeks ago 4.9 mmol/L waking, 14.5 @ 1 hour 12.6 @ 2 hours (with finger tip testing) Clearly impared glucose at...

    Numb feet - Worry

Forgot to mention in my previous posting above that similar results for oral glucose tolerance were also experienced in the Newcastle trial indicating all the participants still had (at least) impaired glucose tolerance according the WHO guidelines...

    Numb feet - Worry

Having strictly adhered to an 8 week 'Newcastle' * diet twice, around two years apart I am yet to be convinced it is a 'cure'. Despite usually having a waking level in the 4 - 6mmol range and cycling 70 miles a week I still fail an oral glucose tolerence test. I certainly feel better having...

No longer have Type 2 diabetes - Official!

This talk of using a Mars bar instead of a proper OGTT is just plain wrong IMHO because the dose is far too low. A standard Mars Bar (51g) is 30.4g of sugars and the results could be compromised by the other ingredients. An OGTT is 75g of Glucose dissolved in water (a pound of Glucose from...

I have been bad girl, real bad and naughty

As far as I can see there is nothing wrong with eating Macadamia nuts. http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/reprint/133/4/1060 http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/reprint/138/4/761 http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/reprint/135/9/2082

    Triglycerides and alcohol

My Trigycerides were 2.1 when i was diagnosed T2 in April, and now three months later they are 0.8. With the long summer evenings I'm probably drinking more (mainly wine, the occasional G&T and the occasional Guinness) than I did when I had my first test. Alcohol might be a reason for raised...

    shocked at the price!

http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG66NICEGuideline.pdf Page 12 1.4.2 Self-monitoring of plasma glucose should be available: • to those on insulin treatment • to those on oral glucose-lowering medications to provide information on hypoglycaemia • to assess changes in glucose control...

    Interpreting Cholesterol Test results

Only just found this thread again and so a belated thanks for the replies! It's now three months on and I've just been retested. Serum Cholesterol reduced from 5.3 to 4.8mmol/L Serum HDL cholesterol level increased from 1.1 to 1.4 mmol/L Serum Trigylicerides reduced from 2.1 to 0.8 mmol/L...

    shocked at the price!

Then change your doctor or show them/the PCT the NICE guidelines on testing that clearly say you are entitled to them. It's completely irrelevant what type of diabetic you are and what treatment regime you are on.

Can I Take Statins and Grapefruit Together ?

Just a few minutes flicking through the BNF will show that Grapefruit and its juice have just about more inter-reactions with prescribed drugs than just about any other substance. All I can say is that I'm really glad its grapefruit and not raspberries.

Is there a general guideline for what readings should be?

No one? That's not strictly true is it?

    Liver dumping?

Do you have a reference to a clinical paper on this side effect of alcohol consumption?

    Where to buy test strips?

It's not just the difficulty of obtaining strips, those (in England) trying to control by diet alone still have to pay the prescription charge for test strips. I doubt this will ever be addressed. As far as testing regime going for 3-6 months with no self testing, with a changing diet, changing...
