Well CEO of Glycemic Index Foundation popped by for a day asking for feedback about our views on carbs...but she left in a hurry after receiving some honest feedback from folks here...hmmm...

We will reduce the food that spike us...even if they are low fat and plant based. And eat food that doesn't raise glucose, including those that may contain saturated fats. Unfortunately that is not what they like to hear...

My gripe with all the arguments that carbs/fibre has irreplaceable essential nutrients...is that it does little or nothing to prevent these amputation.

How many more limbs does it take for "healthcare" providers to figure that one out?
Unfortunately because these are a known side effect of diabetes, no one is bothering to find out why it happens. Also, we the diabetics of this world are keeping many eminent surgeons in gainful employment, so why should they change the status quo?

I was staggered by the lack of knowledge when I was diagnosed. Being a biochemist I had to do my research and, had I not, I may not be here today or, if I was, I would certainly not be fit and active as my fasting glucose was 18.4mmol/L and my HbA1c was 10.6%. As I was a normal weight once I started low carbing I lost one a three quarter stones in weight and was told to up my carbs as I was classed as verging on "critically underweight". My weight stays at 7 stone, no more loss, and I try to control my glucose with very low carbs.

This is the most visible failure of the current treatment protocol and guidelines...the unnecessary loss of limbs due to poor glucose control. All it takes is adequate carbs reduction.

Or...their most visible success.

The entire industry feeds & nourishes itself financially.

They keep the need for their services as priority.

Are you really suggesting that doctors are conspiring to keep the numbers of amputations up to keep themselves in business? I think that's taking cynicism too far.

HCP's have to adhere to the guidelines and regulations estblished by the bean counters, who cut the funding cake as best fits their mission statements.

My doctor phoned me the day I got diagnosed and he said it can be cured by cutting carbs and eating fat , he gave me motivation to get better . Lots of people on here don't like the word 'cure' but it was what i needed to hear and my doctor knows my anxiety and fears he knew what he was doing .
He's a doctor that takes no nonsense . He must be one of the few .

I've been bad for a few weeks now due to moving & now the festive season. I lost 4 stones (LCHF) & was 0.1 away from being in remission (not cured) but unfortunately a stone has gone back on oops. Can I please ask for advice. I used to use flexitol but was advised to use QV. This seems quite watery compared to flexitol. Also using Body Shop dead skin cleaner and foot scrub which is applied with a pumice stone. I do have a foot rasp but it's probably better used as a cheese grater

@Arab Horse

I'm not sure if we've interacted before but may I be bold and share with you this link..

https://www.outsideonline.com/2125031/what-happens-your-body-thru-hike

I found the above story fascinating. So much so I spent 10 days at a high altitude resort and ended up losing 6lbs in weight. Kyle Boelte describes himself as being pre-diabetic in the above article, although he was quite lean before he went on this long distance hike. At the end with only losing 10lbs of weight he displayed non-diabetic numbers from what I read.

I have a friend who's has both legs chopped off due to T2DM. I saw him last Sunday begging on a freeway off-ramp. Please pray for him, his name is Randy Nichols.

I hope this link helps at least one person who's suffering from T2DM..

I somehow managed to get a toe amputated and my diagnosis on the same day........despite every new healthcare professional that saw it previously asking if I was diabetic.......to which I answered ''not as far as I know'.......nobody requested a Hba1c test until in the anaesthetic room having undergone 12 hours nil by mouth for the operation.

Staph Aureus infection fought against for three months before amputation.

Housework - hate housework with a passion - and rude people.
I would love to know how many NHS doctors and DN's are reading this...
The dear ladies responsible for teaching us on the DESMOND day I attended warned me against this site so, probably not many - apart from a few subversive ones and some spies.

My dn advised me to come here and lower carbs, but not by anywhere near as much as I have. A gp in the same surgery told me testing was a waste of time and to eat in moderation (eat well), another said hb1ac was only needed yearly, another thought it was a 4 month average. Knowledge and practice is so variable. Some obviously flout guidelines (dr unwin for one!) and others blindly follow.

I wasn't told about this site on the day but if they had warned me against it I would probably have found it sooner!!!

the actively warned you against us? good grief!!!
Same here 4 years ago. Not Desmond, though. NHS Diabetes specialist Nurse. GP did warn me, but is happy I ignored him, and we work well together. I am the only one of his patients apparently who has come close to normal levels, and he will be chuffed to bits I am now considered In Remission by the hospital. He will not be so happy about my currrent heart attacks, but then neither am I.

Sorry about your heart attacks; make sure you are given proper medical treatment and don't be alone!
