LADA test yesterday

Hello, I got tested for LADA yesterday. My diabetes journey started a year ago when diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hba1c 50. I went low carb and my 3 month repeat result was hba1c 47, so I thought I was coping with it. But over the summer last year I increasingly felt unwell after eating and my blood sugars more labile. After a particularly unwell day I contacted my GP, my hba1c was 65. At this time metformin was increased to 1000mgs twice a day.
Over the past year my weight has dropped to 55kg, having lost 20kgs. I had gone radically low carb, verging on unhealthy. It all came to a head 4 weeks ago, when I woke up with my blood sugars at 20mmols, glucose and keytones in my urine, it didn't budge and increasingly feeling unwell. So after a week of 3 trips to hospital, multiple phone calls to the GP, I was started on Insulin.
It's a relief now to have found 2 lovely diabetic nurses at the GP and hospital. Whether it's LADA or type 2, doesn't matter as long as I can stabilize my blood sugars moving forward.

Looking highly likely it may well be LADA/type 1. Whilst feeling well is obviously a high priority being correctly diagnosed (in the U.K.) is very important for access to the right support, specialists, tech like fgm, cgm’s and pumps etc. I’d be asking for the c peptide and antibody tests to try and get a confirmation of type even if your immediate treatment doesn’t change as a result.

I’m in the same boat, similar story in terms of managing blood sugar and hospital visits after a period of time following t2 diagnosis of being reasonably well controlled my blood sugars went haywire and being stuck on a low cal low carb diet much like you, as anything more than that sets my bm crazy. Diabetes nurse was lovely and suggested it may be lada/type 1. Waiting for results of c peptide and gad antibodies and also thyroid function I had on Monday. Insulin is in my future regardless of what type it is I feel. I hope we both get the answers we need and get back to good health. Let me know how it goes!

I'm still waiting on results. I understand they take a few weeks. I'm gradually getting used to using insulin, and my blood sugars certainly less labile, between 6-10mmols predominately, occasionally a bit higher! Still tired at times, which is frustrating. I've not put weight on yet but at least i've stopped losing.

My memory is the results came back after about six weeks. This was pre-Covid, though, so it may be a little longer at the moment.

I was on three monthly appointments with the clinic at that stage, so I was happy to wait until then as I'd been suspecting LADA/T1, as had my then new GP for a few months, we were both delighted what I'd been stubbornly saying for years was finally being taken seriously, the switch to insulin was so clearly the right thing, (though I was less impressed with the immediate weight gain which I'm still working on losing...) and everything else settled down within a month.

Hope you get the results soon, but sounds as if insulin is keeping you on more of an even keel. I’m still waiting but it’s only been two weeks. Have first appointment with endo consultant on 26th may and pretty confident I’ll need to start on insulin as well, whatever the outcome. My blood sugar ranges from 4 to 11, with the odd spike up to 14 on occasion particularly after exercise, so I’m looking forward to getting things more settled bm wise. I’m still losing weight but I have it to lose so I’m not complaining
