Yeah, I was wondering about this the other day... when calculating 100g leeks online and it came back as 12.6g ...

Just checked my Gem Calorie counter book and it says:

Leeks, trimmed, chopped and boiled (100g): 21cal, 1.2g protein, 2.6g carb, 0,7g fat and 1.7g fibre.

Cheers.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I found a quote of 3g carb per 100g for raw leeks. In a reference book! that makes sense as the edible part o the plant is mainly leaves.
I clean them, then slice into rounds. I fry thee rounds in butter until soft. I add a few thin slices of raw potato and then add stock to make soup. or Islice them and put into a casserole dish with cream and grated cheese and cook in the oven. I don't boil vegetables. Leaks would go very mushy if boiled.

Hi Fiona
Leek and celeriac soup is good and lower carb than the usual leek and potato
Slice up the leeks and place in heavy pan or pressure cooker with a good sized knob of butter when almost soft add thin slices of celeriac and continue to cook gently until celeriac softens slightly add 1/2 milk and water to cover I add a vegetable stock cube after cooking but you can season at this point or use chicken stock in place of some of the liquid.Simmer gently for about 15 -20 mins then either mash or whizz I add a good swirl of cream and a little fresh parsley
Low carb fine dining :D

I cook mine in butter with salt and pepper, then almost caramalise them - lush.

I made a leek soup with 3 leeks in it. Sent me up to 10. So if you have a small amount you should be ok.

Normally, leeks, potatoes, onion, garlic, vegetable stock and milk or cream.
But as others point out, it can be tweaked to lower the carbohydrates, such as the post suggesting celeriac instead of potatoes.
There's no rigid rules, even my offering isn't gospel, experiment and enjoy!

I use leeks cut into sheets instead of pasta sheets when making lasagna

as originally shown on the Hairy Dieters TV series.

it works and is great tasting as well. :)

Leeks and peppers sauteed in frying pan with savoy cannage and cider... And I also add chillies too.
They are lovely just steamed.

It was leeks, blue cheese and chicken stock. I read after that a leek can have up to 12g in it. No wonder 3 sent me high!
