I’ve just read a report by the Health Sciences Institute ( http://www.thehealthierlife.co.uk/ ) which basically state that artificial sweeteners can make you fat ! They list many studies that show artificial sweeteners do NOT promote weight loss in fact the reverse can take place as they can promote insulin release which takes glucose out of your blood and makes you hungry . Other studies show problems as well .

Whole-wheat past and rice, tastes horrible. Cats, spiders, and people who think nick jonas is a musician.
I don't want to loose weight, i want to drink.

As a diabetic, i dan't drink any of the soft drinks, fruit juices or milk.
It's either sweeteners or water.

There's nothing bad in there pertaining to diabetes, just with regards to weightloss.

I still drink it. Much prefer Dr pepper zero anyway.

Customer helplines that use recorded menus that promise to put me through to the right person but never do - and being ill. Oh, and did I mention customer helplines :)
I drink the occasional fizzy zero/diet drink and am still managing to loose weight, just crept under 14 stone last week, thats the first time in over two years :D

So I think I can live with it. Its gotta be better than drinking Fanta ordiniar

Those zero drinks are awesome - taste just like the real thing... I think I prefer the diet stuff now, though. Weird that, innit? I used to love Fanta Orange, but got used to Diet Fanta. When I tried the Fanta Zero - there a rush of nostalgia, but it was just too sugary(?) for me...

I think a lot of the regular drinks like Fanta and Lilt are a lot less sugary than they used to be anyway.

I like diet coke, and I don't drink enough of it to worry - like Celtic Piskie says, if you want a fizzy drink, diet is the only way to go!

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
A 330ml can of Fanta or Lilt (Regular) contains 36.6g carbs

I don't think they are that good actually ? Stick to the Diet versions with 0g carbs. Much better.

I have a can of Diet Coke most evenings, instead of the 2 or 3 bottles of German beer (and resultant snacking!) that I used to get through before diagnosis. And no, I don't miss the booze!

Personally I can't stand diet coke or diet pepsi but I have found that most supermarket own brand two litre no added sugar drinks are acceptable. I'm hooked on the cream soda :D

The diet cream soda is fab, definitely my favourite! Always found the fat versions of these types of drinks quite sticky and cloying, and although I don't drink large quantities of the diet versions I do enjoy them, but I'm now more concerned about the sweeteners they contain (since reading on this site). Well, not that concerned, maybe just aware of the controversy such additives tend to spark off.
