    1st visit with diabetic nurse

It seems odd to me that the general view on this forum is that reduced carb diets are most beneficial for people with diabetes, particulary type 2. but as you say the information on the main site regarding diet is similar to that of diabetes UK etc. Maybe your GP would prescribe you some test...

    appointment with diabetic nurse again

I think it's good that you are being followed up again, it doesn't seem enough to me to only be seen once a year. Go armed with all your questions so you can get the most out of the appointment

Low A1c means lots of hypo's?

It is blind in that the CGMS that you can get (generally used in the US alongside pumps) show on the screen every 5 minutes what your blood sugars is, alarms when it's below or above certain set levels. The one I will be using will be hooked up but I will be unable to see the readings, the...

Type 1 - Lots of hypos

pre-mixed insulin is difficult for for most people to get good control on. You may find things better on a basal bolus regieme, where you can vary the timings of when you eat, eat different amount of carbs at each meal is you wish. I would definatly speak to your DSN for some dosage advice

Low A1c means lots of hypo's?

I had a bad experience on tuesday ended up in A&E for over 24 hours with a blood sugar of 1.x (can't exactly remember). I had my A1c done while I was there and it was 5.8% down from 5.9%. The DSN that i saw said that I must have alot of lows to get that A1c, I let her look through my meter...

Glucose Tolerance Test - what does it show?

and I don't understand why littlesue would need a test after being type 1 for so long. for me the OGTT was what got me diagnosed my fasting readings were good and the doctor didn't believe my mum when she said that i had high blood sugars at times. the peads team at the hospital did the test on...

    How Acheivable?

thats the thing Stu a week ago i would have argued that i'm not having many hypos (1 a week on average), but i've only been home for a couple of hours after spending 24 hours in hospital after a nasty hypo that went on for hours, i'm not so sure that I can argue that point anymore. their...

    Convenience vs comfort?

interesting to read this topic. i am going to have the CGMS for 3 days within the next month to see whats going on with my levels particularly overnight. will be interesting to see how I find being connected.

    How Acheivable?

i aim for 5-7 before meals and 5.5-8 after meals and before bed. I pretty much hit this 75% of the time I'd say. i hate my blood sugar to be in double figures. and have maintained A1c's below 6.2% for the past 2 and a half years, yesterdays result 5.8% today I've been told to relax and reduce...

How much insulin do you get

i get 5 cartridges or lantus and 5 of novorapid if I order them, i only use about 20 units of insulin a day so each cartridge lasts me about a month. i don't order insulin very frequently. i order test strips each month and get 200 at a time. I get 100 needles in a box and order every couple of...

    Advice needed re parking spaces...

I think that now the DVLA recommends recovery time of 40 minutes before driving again after a hypo, because you could still not be fully alert until then.

    More NHS stupidity

I've found it allright so far. I received a letter saying that they would be at my GP surgery between certain dates and to arrange an appointment. I didn't because I forgot so I got sent another letter which I didn't respond to because I was working and couldn't get time off. a few weeks later i...

    new to the forum

Hi Alan welcome to the forum, what insulin are you on? i fear you may be on novomix as you only mention a novopen. maybe you could try another medication to help with your neuropathy, something like pregablin may have less side effects for you

    I did it!

I think with metformin as it takes a few weeks to reach maximum effect it also takes a while to get out of your system and not be effecting things anymore. when i was on oral meds, i had to adapt how i took my glibenclimide on what i was eating and what my blood sugar was. sometime is took it...

    Advice needed re parking spaces...

I think your reasons sound good enough on their own. personally I'd be reluctant to use my diabetes in this sort of situation. Unless there was some complications which affected my mobility.

    Greggs Pasty...

I'm really bad at working out the carbs for things like pasties and breaded/battered stuff i find tricky too. All i can really say is that 7g sounds too low and 40g sounds too high. I'd probably guess around 20g. can you look up how much in say a tesco or sainsburys one of the same size.
